Bob, if you want to truly understand hip-hop, then you need to go to hip hop golden age and listen to all 1000+ albums for each year in chronological order. You have to listen to the original albums, using the technology that was available at the time. That means records, casette tapes, cds, and in some cases "hitclips." Otherwise its not authentic. You will have to spend tens of thousands of dollars, but it will be worth it, because you experienced the music in the real way. Just like me. If you don't listen to it properly then you might as well not listen to it at all. You'll never be a true fan.

If possible I think a lot of people want to see a live reaction for that specific performance. But if not that's okay. I will be posting a laundry list of videos for this album for the additional thoughts. Music videos, a mini doc by the most unruly (he makes excellent kanye docs), and the We Were Once a Fairy Tale short film.

Definitely remind me after I post the initial reaction. I'll make that part of my week with the album.

I hope he watches the 2015 performance at the hollywood bowl as part of the reaction. Ye's most powerful performance to me. It's everything.

Because you’re gonna listen to 808s this week, I’d recommend reading the information log provided by Genius as an intro to Pinocchio Story. I’d say it’s not necessary but it definitely adds to the tracks power and heartfelt message. As to gatekeeping music, I think it’s inevitable and sometimes I find myself trying to gatekeep the music I like but I feel bad about it. Gatekeeping is selfish but I understand why people do it.
