The Hunchback of Notre Dame Uncut (Picture in Picture)

I sort of missed this one as a kid, and when Sam brought it up, I was like yes, let's do it! I read the book when I was about 15 and I like the changes they made to make it work as a Disney movie. Hope you guys enjoy the vid 😊✨ - Maria

I am not a fan of musicals, but I do appreciate storytelling in songs here. Very much so. They had a great material and they did a great job adapting it. I agree, it's visually stunning! I mean, I can understand that, to a degree. I do think that this story should've been told and the kids should see it, though. I'll have to check those out on the rewatch 😊 Totally fair - Maria

I love that we start out the film with the intro “It is a tale, a tale of a man and a monster.” that has the audience automatically assuming which character is being labeled as each. Then having the lyrics of “The Bells of Notre Dame” literally asking “Who is the monster and who is the man?” is just perfect. *Chef’s kiss* The line about Frollo “And he saw corruption everywhere except within” in that song is one of my favorites from Disney because there are so many people that act like this in real life. Having Quasimodo's “Heaven's Light” lead directly into Frollo’s “Hellfire” is brilliant. This film has some incredible visuals. I have literally just watched clips of certain scenes because I just want to admire the artwork. I get why kid me thought this film was depressing and only watched it 2 or 3 times, but adult me finds it a pretty damn awesome film (even with the religious aspects). I have read that some people at Disney were surprised that this film actually got a “G” rating from the MPAA because of the mature themes and certain scenes. During Quasimodo's “Out There” song, there is a scene where you see Belle from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and what looks to be the Magic Carpet from ‘Aladdin’. I heard people claim that Pumbaa from the ‘Lion King’ is also there, but it does not look like him to me from what little you can see. Even though the gargoyles do things that affect other characters and the goat sees them, there is still debate on whether Quasimodo was imagining his interactions with them due to his isolation.

I literally let out a little scream when I saw this post. I have wanted to make this one of my suggestions for the polls from the start, but I thought it should be done as a YouTube video since it is part of the very popular Disney Renaissance. This was one of my least favorite films of that Disney period when I was a kid (probably because of some of the darker aspects), but it is one of my favorites as an adult. Going to go watch it now!!!! ❤️❤️
