2023-02-04 12:02:26 +0000 UTCi think you're catching on good! it's absolutely super confusing first time around. basically in a nutshell, the Eldians who live on the continent of Marley live in an internment zone and are treated with hatred by majority of the Marlayans. Like, the only courtesy they are shown is internment and racism instead of full on genocide. And the reason they hate the Eldians on Paradis Island and call them "island devils" or "bad eldians" is because Marley has convinced them their race is evil, so they become self hating. And they blame the Eldians on Paradis Island for their suffering because while they are living their lives accepting and atoning for the "sins of their ancestors" by living in subjugation from Marley, the Eldians on Paradis Island are living without the same shame and guilt and oppression. So they hate their own kind on the island because they are being "good Eldians" while the ones on the island are not. It's very sad and complex.
