Presumably they were around 30-40 minutes into a training session, makes sense that the chapter only covered the initial part and that Rei jumped a few specs later. Would make sense that the lashers script checks once every few hours and only saw the change after B1, therefore missing that it wasn't a straight double jump.

That first hit from Kalus when Shido wasn't even called would probably be enough to push him well past B0, and then all of the fighting with an S rank culminating in the hit to Wainwright could potentially push him up another level. All of this is to say that B1 is not outside the scope of possibility and in all honesty, given that he took a solid, unarmored hit from an S ranked user, an argument could be made that he could have evolved even further.

2024-07-21 23:05:27 +0000 UTCBetween the Boneyard jump and others at sectionals, Iām fairly sure Rei was close to C8 before he started his duel with Aria, and he had two specs that went up three points after the fiasco. Weāre told half of Reiās specs had gone up by 1 in the week of just evening sessions with the three sub instructors after sectionals. Add in one or two more from the following week (or 2, canāt remember off hand) from Rei resuming full practice with his class and the first Kamiya session, and thatās 4 or 5 specs up by 1 since he hit C9. Now I donāt think itās 6 specs going up to a single rank, not for Rei. His S skews his averages still. But the boosts we saw in the first rough of chapter 19 were +1 everywhere with +2 in Speed and Cognition. To me, all that combined is enough to hit B1. But by the same token, the S may well throw things off even more, thus it only being B0. Personally Iād like to see the segments of that first session extendedā¦ as written right now itās 20 minutes or so of admittedly hard combat. But still, I feel that should be extended to 30 to 60 minutes. Either B0 or B1 is believable to me, though Iād rather B1 personally

2024-07-20 22:42:56 +0000 UTCI do get what you are saying, but remember that Rei ranked up and evolved the week before Sectionals (because of the parameter thing). Then he was on light training and only really had two more days of normal training. Then it said that he went up in 4 specs over the week of Sectionals, which is why I figured after his duel with Aria, he would have hit C8. I do not think that is enough even with the hologram fiasco to send him significantly past C9. The first few days after Sectionals, he was again on light training so I don't believe he would have made that many spec upgrades (I think 2-3 at most) before his fight with Kalus. And I just can't believe that a testing fight with a single Pawn class user that only lasted about 20 minutes would be enough to push him up most of one rank and another entire rank. In the B levels.

Rei has a lot of spec rank ups during the week of sectionals, which almost had him ready to rank up anyway. Then the duel with Aria and the S0 dummies, which collectively caused every spec to jump 2, some of them 3, points. So C9, but with several specs boosted over where youād normally be due to all the stuff that happened at sectionals. Then, when Rei gets back he has a few evenings with the sub instructors, which weāre told yield a spec rank or two. And then the week (or is it 2, canāt remember) of normal classes plus the additional hours. Those yield some more spec ranks. So when Rei goes into that training session with the three S rankers, I believe heās close to hitting B0 anyway. Like one or two spec ranks away. Add that to the effect of that one training session - granted I think the 20 to 30 minutes weāve so far seen perhaps should be extended some to an hour or more - with Kalus and Jetway, and I can totally see why B1 happened, as so far Speed and Cognition went up by 2. B1 feels more appropriate to me, given the smattering of spec jumps during sectionals and since then, but I can also see B0 being a thing. I do 100% agree that the fallout of C7 -> C9 -> B1 will likely beā¦ extreme. But by the same token, Rei probably wonāt see a BIG boost from Kalus and/or Jetway again since it seems to only really happen once.

For me, the kicker is when we see Lennon in the same room as Rei when Shido is calledā¦ is Lennon outlined in blue like Firesong, or white? Because I think those in green, denoting āallyā, are the ones Shido is in the process of linking with. If Shido links with Ourouboros then 100% Lennon will hit Pawn Class and maybe even evolve into a new ability! If not, then I doubt thereāll be another evolution or ability for Lennon.

Viv states that the C9 jump was not his first time Rai jumped a rank. Dent then goes on to say that it happened before he was known. I have thought that he jumped C5 to C6 because when Rai got hurt right before sectionals, during parameter testing, he tells them that he ranked up and evolved. There may have been enough time for him to have ranked up one rank at a time, but it was stated that he had done it before.

This will push Chris into the S ranks and give him an rare ability thanks to all the training time with rei and that he's the first S rank that's trained with shito. This will allow Chris to put dice in his place as training partner. From a business perspective it would be silly to not make the offer. Lennon is guaranteed to make a splash outside eyes will see a like to rei and Lennon also grabbing more attention. This will also open the door for kamia to pull Lennon back into training rei once rei starts catching up in level.

I remember Viv comparing their banter to Rei and Ariaās and I can see it. Not to mention Chrisās slight interest in NOED code altering, I canāt help but see their relationship almost identical to Rei and Ariaās - itās uncanny. Canāt wait for Chris to start training with Rei again. I really enjoyed the chapters of him coaching Rei and Iām so ready for his reaction to Temporal Step, considering how he was towards Type shift in general. Also, A9! When did he advance? I suppose anytime after Sectionals could make sense, especially considering his finals match in a 2v1 and just snagged the win by chance. Glad we got to see more humanity in him. I want to see Chris hit PAWN CLASS!!!!

2024-07-19 22:19:08 +0000 UTCI was actually happy with the increase to B0 and will be a little sad if he increases to B1 and here are my reasons. He spent 15 hours training with Lennon, mostly conditioning/training but a good 4 hours of nearly nonstop fighting with the sole purpose of pushing him from C3 to C4. At that time, Lennon was A8 (25 full ranks higher than Rei). And he did reach C4. During the week of Sectionals, he did not advance. I fully anticipated him reaching C8 after the duel with Aria, but because of the trauma of the six S0 holograms, he increased another rank to C9. I can buy that because of how traumatic that was and I expected him to already be C8 by that time. Now we are saying that after 2 weeks of regular training plus the three times weekly night training with the instructors, one 20 minute fight with an S Pawn rank was enough to push him over and another full rank besides? A fight where the Pawn ranker was just testing him and not really pushing him? Because he only fought with Kalus. Wainwright was one hit at the beginning to push him away from Firesong and one hit at the end with Temporal Step and von Bor didn't fight at all. Kalus is only 21 ranks higher than him during this fight. It is supposed to be harder to advance in B ranks than C ranks. Plus in all the training Rei did, he never advanced more than one rank except for Sectionals and now this will be twice that he skipped a rank. C7->C9->B1.

It would have been fun to read Lennon talking about Rei's upgrade and then Dice getting a message from Rei. Or they both get one at the same time.

Undoubtedly the revisions will clear up the B1 issue and everyone will be ecstatic. Iām looking forward to everything. Hoping Viv will wake up pretty soon of course but looking forward to seeing Chris interact with Firesong again as well as all the S-ranked instructors. So much fun!

It was pretty explicitly mentioned that Rei had good spec jumps but only went room C9 to B0 in chapter 19. However he jumped from C9 to B1 in chapter 20 on the Lashers notification.

Really loved the just hey, these are "real" people with concerns and anxieties and feelings that aren't just about their CAD and their stats. This was an absolutely amazing way to go about letting us the reader to know that Christopher "Lasher" Lennon is who they are bringing in. I didn't rememeber that Dice was a duelist... would love to see her get some time with the team too!

Among all the second-and third-years at the tournament, every one of the four semi-finalists had been from the Institute, just like in the first-year bracket. It wasnāt unexpected, but was still impressive.

However, if the teams are against each other, they learn from the trainers, they learn from teaching the first years, and at least everyone gets more than they do now. The addition of all of Diceās worry and ambition leads me there.

Steelbound versus Firesong would be sweet to see, but not sure how useful it would be for Steelbound. If Firesong could hold out against Steelbound, they can probably handle multiple C rank teams at Systems, but Iād have thought a bunch of 2nd year B rank teams would be a better training tool

2024-07-19 15:42:02 +0000 UTCI just had a thought. Dice going through all the duelists on campus, wouldnāt there be six type instructors for the 2nd years and another 6 for the third years? After all, there have to be some 2nd and/or 3rd years doing combat training the same time as the first years, unless they donāt need sub instructors. Which seems weird if that were the case. Maybe the current first years lucked out in the rotation to get all the really high ranked instructors, but somehow I doubt the other two duelist sub instructors are below A6. Just doesnāt feel right for a school like Galens.

2024-07-19 15:40:07 +0000 UTCI think the change to B1 will be covered in the rewrite of 18 and 19. Also, did we know Dice was a Duelist previously? I searched through book 2 but couldnāt find it. Even re-listened to the whole book to make sure and couldnāt find it. As for B1, late in book 2 were told Rei had a couple of spec upgrades in the event sessions, and Rei upgrades Endurance after the first class session back earlier in book 3. So with the stuff we saw in chapter 19, I think B1 is fair

Curious about rival Veragoth making an offer to Lennon. Could mean nothing but given they are an established rival of Kamiya could always lead to something. I won't lie for a second I actually though it might be Dice getting called even though they haven't fought with her since I forgot she was a Duelist. It is sad to see her concerns a bit but then one can't help but compare. Also lol that Lennon really is on a similar wavelength to Rei in that he did tweak his NOED and specifically to keep an eye on Rei's rank. I bet a lot of people are doing that now. But B1? Did he do more offscreen training? He made B0 last chapter. Von Bor even seemed disappointed that was it.

And itās interesting that Lennon hasnāt accepted a sponsorship, and Dice is an A6 Duelistā¦ Whatāre the chances Dice fills in too, and Kamiya makes sure Reiās other friend ends in the SCTās? Iām calling it right now! And Lennon helping out and thus getting to Pawn classā¦ Kalus is gonna be well jelly, but Lennon deserves it! Glad to know the future rewrite of 18 and 19 will have Rei getting to B1. Given the other advances since sectionals, from Book 2 plus earlier chapters, gotta admit I was very surprised two ranks in every spec wasnāt enough. And gotta admit, āB1 badarseā sounds better than B0 :oD A small part of me is a little sad we didnāt see the exact aftermath of Dent laughing like that, but this is great too! :oD

Iām imagining with the amount of training Rei would want, Lennon would want with his own squad? Audiobooks are another revelation. I've listened to the two Stormweaver audiobooks 2-3 times each while walking the dogs. They have no idea why they're getting longer, more frequent walks but they like it. :D

A big part of it is Bryce's writing; the way each chapter escalates into the next. Normally, I'd devour the novel then save it for a re-read. Now I read & re-read each chapter as they're released and my anticipation builds for each.
