Obviously Viv’s condition is a big deal - hopefully the brain damage or haemorrhage isn’t too severe, but I don’t see Viv bouncing back anywhere near as fast as Rei does. I suspect she’ll be down for weeks, between healing and physio. So it may be many chapters until we find out what her evolution looks like and what Endwalker does. Though part of me wonders if she’ll heal super fast due to the link between Gemela and Shido. Which segways nicely into… is anyone else thinking Dent was expecting something like this? I can’t wait for that conversation - explaining to Dent (and maybe Guest as he’s there) about their hypothesis about the rapid development of the CAD’s in Firesong, and the abilities and stuff. Not sure which I’m looking forward to most to be honest. But definitely a solid chapter!

On the train on the way to the office, I got the email notification that a new Patreon post had gone up. Awesome! Then I read it... in a moment of sleepy blindness, I saw "Stormweaver 3 - Chapter 3". Even more awesome! 2! 2!! Chapters, that I get to read! The woman sitting next to me probably thought I was crazy, because there was a little "eeep!" of excitement from the 250lb hairy gorilla next to her. So even though it was an awesome chapter, I am still mourning the loss of the Chapter 3 that never was. Ok, I know it will come, but... Crushed, by my own inability to get some coffee in me before reading emails :(

2023-11-20 04:42:22 +0000 UTCOvercoming battle scars and permanent disablities is a great tool for character development, which Bryce leans into. I wouldn't mind some permanent damage she had to overcome, and would welcome it, as long as it didn't become too big of a focal point in book three. Honestly, I hope it does do something that is either permanent or takes immense resolve to overcome. Just because she'll be strong as a character and way cooler for it.

I'm wondering if part of the damage was from the fact that she pushed too far too early, so her body was unprepared for the link between Gemela and Shido. Rei's notification seems to imply there was some issue. And she was in rough shape already at that point. So it she was even more vulnerable. If the S ranked constructs were bad enough to do that much damage, she'd have been incapacitated before doing that much damage, and Rei probably would have died outright when he was attacked in book two. So I foresee Rei having issues with blaming himself and trying to distance people to avoid Shido causing harm. Just thoughts about where I see it going, maybe not true at all.

2023-11-19 22:35:08 +0000 UTCAwesome Chapter, B, as always…one thing is aggravating, and it’s nothing to do with your writing - it’s this app. I’m constantly going back to the email attachments because if you read on your phone, the Patreon app does not allow you to change font size or turn your screen sideways to read more easily. I’m getting older, man - I can’t read that tiny script anymore 😂. Not a big deal in the grand scope, just an fyi as it’s a facet of your business.

If she fully recovers, which the future quotes would seem to imply, I hope she comes to realize how stupid this was though I worry that the fact it worked will blunt that some. And I guess Dent and maybe others could be in trouble for this given it was authorized and she wasn't at least being supervised.
