Fully Immersive Gaming Experiences

Thank you so much - I took a bit of a gamble with this one so I'm glad you liked it! And man, you're right on the money there - I've recently started playing Frogun which is a newish game with Megaman Legends aesthetics and N64/PS1 type platforming, but the controls are tighter and more modern... actually, I used a bit of it in this video! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts as always; I love to get your take on these. I have a vaguely related video lined up for later in the year all about low-poly aesthetics, and I'll be talking about some oldies (MM Legends, Ape Escape, Sengoku Turb) as well as some of the indies that nail the vibe

Wow! Great video! My favorite one in awhile. I think you're right on the money with most of it. "Immersion" is a key factor for me, which is part of why I violently reject things like real money shops in games with banner ads and limited crystal chest starter packs. The way we consumed videogame media certainly was a lot different and more deliberate back then. It's weird, but I've started doing the same thing when it comes to limiting the number of games I play. I'm learning to not play every game that looks interesting in an endless attempt to keep up with the deluge of new releases. I'm playing a handful of games every month that look REALLY good. Getting pickier has definitely helped my enjoyment, even if I end up missing some games that are really neat. I will say though, there was definitely a difference in game design philosophies as well back in the day and depending on a person's taste they may prefer the old school design over the new, not just the ceremony surrounding it. The best though? When a modern indie nails old school game design and aesthetic, but adds modern quality of life improvements with a dash of modern game design. Then the whole amazing package is like $20-30. Despite all the crap in AAA development, this is truly a great age for gaming.
