Light Yagami is the Antichrist and the Great June Clean-up

SO, early June, I was going through my computer drives to clean up unnecessary files so that I could save space, I found around six fics (one of which was a WIP I'm probably never going to finish) from a while ago (some were a few years old).

I think the full list is:

With 2:00 a.m. in the morning, the idea has been sitting in my head since I started listening to Night Vale a few years back, and I think it was A Story About You (feat. the man who is not tall and the man who is not short) that finally made me write it, because along with these two who are the perfect descriptions of Sam and Dean, there was also The Man in the Tan Jacket - it was a crossover waiting to happen. So I wrote it and never posted it, and then I unearthed it when I cleaned up my drives.

Sincerest Apologies is a forever WIP, I think, and although I've already posted a few chapters of it, I don't think I'm going to post the rest because it would just make the readers believe I'm going to continue it. The reason for it is because it's been a long time since I've touched Sincerest Apologies and I've forgotten mostly of what I was going for, and - get ready for this unpopular opinion - I wasn't really satisfied by the Gravity Falls ending and that disappointment just kind of soured the entire series for me, which is all on me, of course. And I have been trying to find my love for it again but I just...always feel the whole 'oh this could have been great' whenever I see it now.

Mercy Profound is a Zootopia fic written some time after I wrote Overgrowth, so there's probably traces of the same emotions and lines of thinking from OG that's there - the title itself is very Undertale-inspired, 'Mercy Profound'. I love it though, and I love Zootopia, so I'm definitely going to be posting this up.

Wear Your Red is very, very self-indulgent, more self-indulgent than I've ever gone because I've done crossovers, but I've never done multifandom drabbles in one word file before, and it's just an exploration of a common theme (the color red) between some of my fandoms (to be fair, red is one of my favorite colors and for some reason irl friends always associate it with me). I think this is the last bit of UT fic that I haven't uploaded. The piece features Dave (eyes), bit of Karkat (blood), Chara (soul) and Party Poison (hair).

Bloody Mary was from when I first heard Cassette, and remembered that one legend from my place where if someone dies (especially in front of a mirror), mirrors in the house or the nearby area are covered so that the soul of the deceased wouldn't get trapped in it. (The other half of this legend is that you are to cover the place where the person died, with a blanket, and then ask the spirit not to stay in the world of the living and pass on peacefully, and then you and several others would lift the blanket - if the blanket is heavy then the spirit wants to stay and you have to coax it to passing on, if it's light, then the spirit is willing to cross the veil.)

I wasn't really posting WTNV fics at that time (I just started this year, I think?), so it was left sitting in my drafts.

Light Yagami is the Antichrist has got to be one of the oldest ones, because I've been a long-time Death Note fan and an even longer Good Omens fan. The idea came from Death Note's very obvious biblical allusions - once upon a time, I converted my entire class into Death Note fans and debates about the series were extremely commonplace, and between us, I think we've discussed a few significant motifs from the show.

Light's name, of course, can be taken as a reference to the Light-bringer, the Morning Star, Helel, Lucifer. In fact, that's one of the easiest things, and some people make fun of it in fics. And like the Morning Star, we see Light as something so beautiful and almost-perfect (on the outside) and brilliant, and we see his rise to pride and tyranny and his resulting downfall.

That connection in itself made me think that Light's the Antichrist. I'm pretty sure everyone knows Light is the Antichrist. Plenty of people in history have been labelled the Antichrist (usually tyrannical leaders), so Light Yagami would fit perfectly.

And then, of course, I thought about Good Omens, because when someone says 'antichrist' I always think about Adam Young, and I thought '.........hey we can write a fic out of this'

The original draft of this fic, if I remember correctly featured Light as Antichrist 2.0, so he was Adam's younger brother, but, like Adam, he was too fascinated by the world and was like 'nah', and it was another failed attempt at kickstarting the apocalypse. (Especially with him having a little sister - that's one reason not to destroy the world.)

I don't think I have any copies of the old draft, but what basically happened was that at age eleven, the whole 'you're the antichrist and you have to rule the world' thing happened with Light but he was like 'no thanks', and then Adam found him after that, because with Antichrists, they have an innate ability to draw attention away from themselves, and since they're both Antis, and theoretically evenly matched, then they'd be each other's weakness, so Adam wasn't able to find Light through occult powers and only found him because of the news of a few weird things happening in Japan.

Also, Ryuk is still an apple-eating, children-craving, talking hellhound in this one. Aziraphale is Light's school's librarian. Crowley is a teacher.

But anyway, Adam found Light, they talked, and every now and then Adam pops over to Japan to talk to his little brother and maybe talk about how much they suck at naming their hellhounds (Adam named his 'Dog' because it was a dog, Light named his 'Ryuk' because it had a wheezing laughter; Antichrists are creative until you make them name their pets).

And I think there was a brief while when Light was like 'criminals should die' and made a bunch of people drop dead from heart attacks? I think that was how Adam found him in the first place.

But as fun as that draft would have been, I changed it to go for a more subtle feel, in which you didn't need to have Good Omens knowledge to be able to read and enjoy the fic, and it could just stand by itself despite the Good Omens elements fusion.

I thought about making Ryuk a shinigami, but since I was using Judeo-Christian mythology, I had to tweak it a bit. (In this version of the fic, Light actually still is Antichrist 2.0, and is Adam's brother, and knows it because of The Revelation Via Headaches when he was eleven, I just don't actually write it in the fic so - fun fact.)

Also the apples are there because Ryuk likes apples and they're a reminder of the constant temptation an Antichrist has to use their powers to rule the world or bend it to their whim or whatever. Light's doing a good job of not ruling the world this au around, but he still does a few unconscious manipulating and L's getting about five migraines daily with the evidence folders suddenly popping up.

Taro Kagami has a cameo because a) Taro is precious and probably would have burned the Death Note if he had been the actual protagonist and b) I always find it neat to remember the origins of a great thing, and DN started with this short pilot featuring a kind-hearted young boy. We got a beautiful megalomaniac in the actual run, so let's appreciate Taro from the Pilot.
