#MakeThisBattle Feedback & Jacques Teeth BTS

Its that time again, where Pete responds to some of your #makethisbattle submissions. Seven match-ups were selected - here is what Pete had to say about them all... [Please remember to vote in the corresponding poll]

Also, check out the extended BTS video clip above, where Pete gets some dental work done - its dirty work.

Marie Curie vs Alfred Nobel [submitted by Purplekiren, Bassdora, GabrieloXP, FoxDoc, Neo! Ice Cold Knife]

Kinda fun. But, also a bit boring. Nobel doesn't have the mustard, man, I don't know. His name is more famous than him, somehow. It's like M&Ms vs Kleenex. I know some people hate it, but I believe Curie vs Earhart could be the one.

Mike Tyson vs Bobby Fischer [submitted by fishbulb]

Hmmmm. I like it. I don't know why I like it, but I do. It's got a lot of contrast, a lot of parallel. Boy wonder becomes adult lunatic? Is that the connection? It's fun, great characters. My issue is, it doesn't feel like it satisfies the original rule of ERB beef.  If any two people  were standing in line for the bathroom at a party in trans-dimensional space, would they argue? I don't think this match-up satisfies that. Maybe Mike Tyson and Bobby Fischer are better qualified for an old spin-off series idea - Duets.*

Bob Dylan vs Bob Marley [submitted by Neo! Ice Cold Knife]

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes! This one has been on the radar since season 2. Actually we originally wanted the founder of Maker Studios' brother, John Zappin, to play Dylan. I think we also pitched this battle match-up to Snoop Dogg too, but he wasn't feeling it. Long story short, this is a yes, thanks for reminding me, it's just gotta get made.

Orson Welles vs Tommy Wiseau [submitted by Zawesome, mblpns, Jimothy, Eoghan]

Tommy Wi-who? Googling. Annoyed by it already before changing the tab, which is a bad sign. Okay, have googled.  This suggestion takes a rather honourable place as the worst f--ing idea I've ever seen.

Tom Brady vs Diego Maradona [submitted by Bantha117]

Awesome. Lloyd has been jones-ing for Tom Brady for a long time. Such richness here. Maradona is such a fun legend. Football vs Football. I feel like we might have touched on this one somewhere else too. Really great idea, let's try to make it happen. Lloyd & Rob Rico?

Galileo vs Carl Sagan [submitted by Dragonsblood23]

Cool! Never thought of this like this, but it could be really exciting. There's something fun here that works into another idea I was tickling with. Could be fun. Oooo now I'm excited. You may have just sparked something big.

Charlie Chaplin vs Jim Carrey [submitted by BTTF, SwanSchlong]

Hmm. I am surprisingly delighted by this. It is unexpected and yet so obvious. Hmm. This has me thinking. I'll talk to Lloyd about this one for sure. Although I don't know... is it a better option than Chaplin vs Mr Bean?

* in Feb 2011, Pete was working on a concept to pitch to Alex Farnham called Duets, in which two different historical celebrities would share an unusual commonality, and do a duet, instead of battling.

We are now accepting your match-up ideas again for the next round of #makethisbattle. You can post them in the comments below, post them in the #make-this-battle discord channel or email them to: erbpatreon@gmail.com

The theme for the next round is 'Gone Too Soon' - characters from history who for what ever reason passed away before they turned 30 years old; but who left a strong legacy and you feel deserve to be in an ERB.

At least two of the selections chosen in the next round will feature this theme. Rules as ever remain the same. Maximum three selections per patron. Deadline for submissions is: 9am PT on Sunday 15th September

John Wick vs Jason Bourne vs Liam Neeson (Taken)

Kurt Burkhardt

James Dean vs. River Phoenix Or perhaps Brandon Lee vs. Heath Ledger. (The Crow vs The Joker)

Max Wallén

Kurt Cobain vs Jim Morrison. Or Kurt Cobain vs Ronnie Van Zant (which I dig because you can riff on Chad Kroeger and Kid Rock.)

Rum Tum Tugnuts

Jimi Hendrix vs Jim Morrison. Two classic rockers going at it.

Sweetish_Jeff_25

King Arthur VS Link

Austin M Decker

I'm honestly shocked you haven't seen The Room and didn't know who Tommy Wiseau is. It's one of the greatest terrible movies there is, and the movie about the making of The Room (Disaster Artist) was also pretty good.

N7

Henry Ford vs John Delorean ? Both notable automobile business men (of varying degrees of success), makers of iconic cars but with plenty of jabs to be had, the Nazi sympathiser angle with Ford and the cocaine smuggling with Delorean for starters.

Pete

Ok, I’ll admit the Tyson/Fischer choice was impulsive, with the idea being the chess nerd vs the bully. However, to justify the matchup: Both were young prodigies, the Tyson Typhoon and the 14 yr old grandmaster. Both became the top champions, lost their titles, and became criminals for their actions in a match... although maybe not in the same order. However, was a momentary thought... I really just wanted a matchup with Tyson because I think his voice is hilarious, and the Fischer match kept the Award Winner theme. (I almost went with Rocky Balboa, which might be more the style of matchup you’re saying)

Fishbulb

YES. Bring Rob back for Football vs Football.

Jason Ulloa

This one is just a quick shot at the #GoneTooSoon idea, but maybe Heath Ledger (whose name we all know comes up a lot) vs. Janice Joplin. Only main connections off the top of my head is they were both entertainment (acting vs. music), and both overdosed (prescription drugs vs. illegal drugs). Maybe replace Joplin with Hendrix, but I don't know how much of a difference it'll make. I'm suggesting these people only because I wanna know more about them. You guys are the Sean Evans in finding facts about your characters that few others knew. (Except you guys predate his time on YT)

Last Rookie

It’s an odd one, I know, but hear me out: what about Charlie Chaplin vs. Arnold Schwarzenegger? The reason I say this is while they’re both obviously very famous actors in their respective eras, they’re both also know for getting political (Arnold as governor and Chaplin having political messages/themes in his films for the time), and they both have a lot of experience with romantic relationships. Just a thought.

Michael Rose

Tommy Wiseau is a bizarre character. You just can't quickly Google him

Santeri Tirronen

Glad to see Galileo VS Carl Sagan made you feel that way, its been a long time favorite of mine and would be cool to see happen!

Eric Forsman

Great picks again, delighted by the amount of matchups that Peter seems into this time around. Laughed at his strong reaction to Wiseau vs Welles, and while I do think he’s wrong, as soon has he said he didn’t know Wiseau it was a lost cause, you can’t google him and find out why he’s beloved. References like “Oh Hi Mark” “you’re tearing me apart Lisa” aren’t funny if you didn’t experience them like everyone else did organically.
