The Disturbing Case of Sabrina Zunich

The Disturbing Case of Sabrina Zunich

Comments

He Mike, how are ya? The movie this murder seems vaguely to have been inspired by is, or might be: Poison Ivy, with Drew Barrymore as the ‘Sabrina’ character. It’s not really too similar beyond screwing the dad and killing the mom...But I know what you mean about the weirdness here having a cinematic feel to it. There was another murder up this alley, even weirder in fact, in which the murdering teen victim of sexual manipulation was named “Cinnamon” and after she committed the murder, or was blamed for it, she was poisoned to appear like a suicide and later found in a dog house in the yard, near death, with a forged suicide letter...you’d LOVE that one! (Even though you may have to re-read my recap a couple times before it makes sense...)

Rebecca S Kent

who are we to say that wasn't his intention when he started doing the dew to that poor girl!? she is guilty of this crime for sure, but also a victim :(

Etak Doow

Hey, Doug... all good points... and I certainly think Sabrina was was 100% guilty of this crime -- she didn't lack responsibility for having a troubled life... she is far too manipulative herself. However, her guilt doesn't negate that there is likely another person guilty of this crime, too... one who stands to earn a significant payday from this crime. Clearly Kevin -- an adult male, chronologically at least -- has a severe lack of self awareness, empathy and insight. Immaturity at any age can lead to a kind of magical thinking. I imagine he could think to himself, "...let Sabrina do it and she'll go to prison if it doesn't go down right... I'll be free to look for another 18-year-old lover - or multiple other lovers - free of a wife and a family... essentially a do-over with a huge life insurance payoff." And it would all happen without him taking the fall for any of it. MANY an adult man has convinced himself it could happen as he imagined it... women too. It's amazing how many delusional, selfish, "wish-I'd-made-other-decisions" adults exist out there.

I can buy the affair with the under aged girl. That happens all the time in many different contexts. I will say that the wife was a bit naive to bring a troubled young woman of that age into the house like that. She trusted her husband but it seems like a recipe for disaster. I am more skeptical of his having been privy to the murder ahead of time. You can see my comments below.

Mike you said it right - there's a lot of he said/she said. Stabbing the wife and saying it was an intruder sounds more like the plan of a teenager than an adult. I have no doubt Kevin is a piece of shit and was molesting his step daughter for sure. But I'm not 100% convinced he was in on the murder the way it went down. On the hit man thing, Autumn's recorded conversations there sound extremely unnatural. Saying "that hit man thing" indicated that there was something they mutually knew about but it may have been Sabrina's plan that had previously surfaced somehow. I mean I guess I'm splitting hairs here but something just feels a bit off at the gut level. A guy leaving that sort of thing in the hands of 2 inexperienced teenage girls. Can you imagine Kevin letting the 2 of them pack his parachute or fix his roof or do his taxes? Yes Kevin was a piece of shit and may have been planning his wife's departure or death but with a million $ and life in prison hanging in the balance it's just hard for me to imagine him putting them in that position of control. This I say as a father of several teenagers. Something came to a head and the wife ended up dead but it's a bit murky and I'm not sure it rises to "beyond reasonable doubt" on the murder part - though I wasn't on the jury so I admit I don't have all the info. Sometimes juries want to hold people accountable for their general actions and morality.

Rewatch from about 15:15. The texts during the two weeks prior to Lisa's death showed Kevin and Sabrina exchanged 7x the number of texts as Kevin and Lisa. Also, the guy testifying at 15:15 was a long-time friend of Kevin's who also testified that Kevin showed him some of the modeling pics Kevin had taken of Sabrina and told him that Sabrina had picked out underwear for Kevin. I think the reason Sabrina didn't say anything sooner was because she still thought that she'd be able to get away with it and that Kevin would help her. I think the plan didn't make sense because there wasn't one plan, but several, like a main plan with a few backup plans. Kevin appealed his conviction and lost. Here's a link to the Appellate Court's Opinion: https://cases.justia.com/ohio/eleventh-district-court-of-appeals/2015-2014-l-088.pdf?ts=1450131643 Of course, read at your own risk. Just because it's a court document doesn't mean it's necessarily safe for work (unless you work in a court, I guess).

Plus, I think they were wearing dog collars, so I suppose they’re knitting for Jesus or something........

Lorna Mangan

regardless- love ya mike! your vids always make me so happy ❤️

MIKE! i almost always agree with your assessments (<- thats a lotta S's) of the cases but am i the only one who felt like there was pretty much zero legit evidence of this affair? like the guy is obvs a classic idiot, spending his insurance money on ridiculous shit, but actually thats pretty common for people who get a large sum of money at once. and i feel like this girl had the seven months she wasnt talking to come up with a defence that would help her the most- and everyone knows the best way to get a reduced sentence is to testify against someone else! her friend autumn also had an evolving statement about the hitman convo going from talking with sabrina to hearing kev in the background to talking to kev on the phone... im sure she wants to help her friend any way she can. i dont know, its also that the so called "plan" makes zero sense! like theres no way sabrina could actually kill lisa and get away with it, tricking the cops into thinking it was a robbery! ugh sorry this is like the longest rant but i just wanted to see if im the only one who thinks this... witness testimony is always so, SO sketchy

hypatia2.0

YES bahahaha so glad someone else noticed the KNitters in the KNoefel case- so weird lol

hypatia2.0

Haha what's the line?

That Chapter

It sounds like the movie Orphan had it played out the way the orphan wanted to (which is seduce husband and kill wife). It’s a garbage movie with one of the cheesiest lines in a horror/thriller movie I’ve ever heard.

Lisa

I would be willing to bet his charges involved abusing a position of power OR the punishment for the act which involved abusing his position would be higher. Even though he for life no parole, he had 11 charges against him, 6 of which involved the relationship with the foster daughter. I know in Canadian law if we commit a crime as a person in a position of power, that is taken into account.

Lisa

She was a 16-17 year old girl who, apparently, wasn’t making many good choices. I don’t think she deserves to be punished for not telling the police about the hit man thing, she probably was freaked out and didn’t have a huge amount of comfort in going and speaking to the police. And many women find it easier to blame the “other woman”, especially when from her perspective it WAS the foster daughter wanting her out, so again, it’s really not her fault. And she doesn’t deserve to be hit.

Brooke Ralstin

"Who just sits there listening to how a person is brutally murdered while making a green blanket"? Uh..We do! 😂

Didi Cortez

Oh my! I have to look this one up!

Didi Cortez

That's hilarious...I was thinking the exact same thing lol!

princess.denyse

Jayzus Christ. What a piece of shit. The moral to this story (as it is in *most* of these stories) DON'T EVER PURCHASE LIFE INSURANCE! Seriously... ;)

princess.denyse

Mike- well done, sir. You’re really getting comfortable in front of the camera now and it shows. Thank you for sharing these (mostly shitty) events with us. Hey I call ‘em as I see ‘em. Keep it up!

Rachel Milani

Look into the Heidt murders in Effingham County, Georgia, USA. Son murders half his family over his brother's wife...you'll love it!

Kathy Penton

Thx for stickin’ w/us by continuing to upload vids, Mike! Your work is appreciated! 😊👍🏼

Frankie1078

So many movies it sounds like... Amy Fisher & Poison Ivy (Drew Barrymore), Lolita, Wicked (Julia Stiles), The Crush/Babysitter (Alecia Silverstone)... it’s a sad but common thing unfortunately. I hope the actual daughters can find some peace after witnessing that horror!

Frankie1078

Since when do the victim impact statements get edited??

Angelica Hancock

If that girl had reported the request for a hit man right after she got it, the woman would not have been killed. I hope that idiot has nightmares. The wife blamed her foster daughter and not her repulsive husband?? She didn’t deserve to die, but I think, someone punching her in the face would have been good.

Addie Alexander

Eeeeeeewww!!!! 😫🤢

SaGu

Wow, just wow and sad 😥

Minister Elana C Henderson

I saved this until I finished everything I needed to do today. It was a great treat! Disgusting story, but enjoyably told.

Kathy Beall

Did a crocheting club go to the wrong venue on one of the days during trial? Who just sits there listening to how a person is brutally murdered while making a green blanket? Were they his older relatives making crotchet blankets so he would be comfy in prison? They were both making green ones to go with his prison attire. Fucking hell. I wish they let the ex husband be alone with this cuntwaffle in a room for 10 minutes. He was so angry he was twitching.

Ashley Ison

Great video, but such a gross story. I saw a story today on top5 unknown and it was about a daughter who was given up for adoption as a baby, found her birth parents, moved in with them, then started sleeping with and married her bio dad. they had a kid together.

Amie

Good video, but now I need to go rinse myself with bleach. 🤢

Lisa Henkel

Thanks Mike! Maybe a little like the made for TV movies taken from real life ‘Long Island Lolita’? The Amy Fisher and Joey Buttafuoco (no, I did not make that name up!) story? Amy Fisher (17 yr old girlfriend) shot Mary Jo-the wife-in the face on her doorstep. Amy had been having an affair with the much older Joey...

Catherine Andrews

Happy Birthday Elsa 🍰😁

Me

I'm so sorry Catherine. Took leave of my senses. You are right of course. Mike GET BACK TO WORK ye lazy wee fekker ye 😁👍

Me

19:03 Nana knitting away like she's got the soaps on. Be like Nana.

Didi Cortez

2 fuck faces coming together in the universe to ruin many lives. Also, the way you said "trial" so perfectly, got me off. I mean true me off!

Didi Cortez

Hello Mike from the quarenteined. Your videos give a much needed break from the monotony. This actually reminds me of the Cinnamon Brown case where her dad was sleeping with his teenage sister-in-law. He got them both to kill his wife. Well, keep up the good work. Love your sense of humor.

TK

Sounds like the movie Poison Ivy with Drew Barrymore

Nicole Raeside

Never heard or read this one before... it’s a trick to tell such horrible stories and make me laugh at the same time. Thanks Mike from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hayley

It's like the movie The Orphan but in reverse? kinda?

ScavengerQueen

Noooo! Mike must always be working to satisfy all That Chapterites. No breaks! 😉😂🌲🌲🌲

You've done it again, Lucky Charms! Tanks!

Catherine DeWitt

You've been my comfort blanket for more than the past 6+ weeks. In a SUPER creepy way though! Thanks times tree, Mike. If you only new, LMMFAO!!!

William Myers

Thanks Mike. Another cracker.... it’s the way you tell them... aaah this lockdown seems to be turning me into 70’s comedians. Seriously though I love it when the notification pops up telling me there’s another one of your videos to watch.

Jane Pohl

You’ve been like my comfort blanket for the past 6+ weeks. Not in a creepy way 😂❤️ thanks so much !

Heidi C

Yet another annoying 911 operator- she opens the call with “someone just killed my Mom” then when the poor girl is is saying, “it’s my sister, she’s got a knife” the stupid operator is asking what she’s doing with it. WHAT DO YOU THINK? Drives me nuts when they should be swinging into action & trying to comfort & reassure the child. Also, what’s with the 2 weirdos knitting the world’s ugliest blanket in the row behind Kevin? Hmm on reflection, maybe my work network crashing & losing 2 hours of my work may have affected my mood.......Thanks for another great video- I think the film you might be thinking of is Poison Ivy- an early Drew Barrymore film. It also reminds me of the Long Island Lolita case- I think Drew Barrymore played her too in one of those cheesy true story movies.

Lorna Mangan

Honestly tho, what a predator. That is SUCH an abuse of power. I hope he got charged with statutory rape too. Disgusting little man.

Elle

Ugghhhhhh I need a shower 🚿 after that one. That foster dad was disgusting. Made my skin crawl.

Sarah DeMatteo

Happy birthday Elsa!

Mike. Thank you. You work too much. Make sure you take a well earned break soon.

Love your channel. Makes Monday a little better

"This guy fucking sucks!" Couldn't have said it better myself

Kellie

I saw the murder in a different light after Zunich said "I started to stab her, then, just raised the knife up...... and went down on her." My mind has spent too much time in social isolation.

Eddie Glass

2am in Australia woo woo

Ellie Aragon

i find it interesting how many of these cases directly involve a social worker in the immediate family

Good afternoon from London. Thanks for this - I need a distraction from the packet of custard creams I’m demolishing while making dinner!
