INTEMPERANCE VI - Chapter 1, Decisions and Unforeseen Consequences
Added 2021-12-15 04:30:32 +0000 UTCAnd here is the first chapter of Book VI, as promised. This will likely be the final book in the series, but you never know. We'll have to see how things go. I have resolved (or at least put into motion a resolution) for the cliffhangers at the end of Book V. Some people may be upset by how I resolved them, but I write from the heart and my heart told me this is where the story needs to go. Please give me your feedback as always.

I find the word very offensive, even though I'm about as white as someone could be, and I never use it myself, even among acquaintances who toss it around like nothing. Matt, however, is the type of person who would use the word, not necessarily to describe a black person, but in the spirit that it was used in the scene. Yes, still offensive, but Matt does not care about offending people. I think Obie's and Crow's use of the word in earlier parts of the story is much more offensive because they were directing their comments at black people and using the word in a derogatory manner. Those scenes were, I believe a realistic portrayal of how certain people will toss that word around among acquaintances without a second thought. When Obie used the N-word in Book 3, that was before I had really fleshed his character out and I did not know where he was leading. If I had it to do over again, I would not have him say that as he has rather grown on me as he developed. Steve Crow, however, would drop the word without a second thought.

I infer that doesn't matter to you, as pre 2000, Jake's liberal heart was a bleeding heart. I'm just clad Celia doesn't have cervical cancer like I initially thought.
