Black Roses Lavender Prototypes

The Black Roses Lavender MPC prototypes arrived today. Normally you get prototypes for a few reasons. First of all you wanna see how the finished deck looks like in your hands. So you can be 100% that everything is right. Then you may wanna use it to promote your deck.

Last year I stopped spending money on prototypes since they are ridiculously expensive. I already knew how the decks will look like and all my images for promotional reasons came from the computer. Another reason is that I used Pantone colors in every 2020 deck. Something that MPC can't print. They convert everything into CMYK colors and these colors would look visibly different.

For the Lavenders I tried to use only CMYK colors for two reasons. Especially with bigger print runs you can save a good amount of money since USPCC charge extra for every Pantone color. But the biggest reason for me were the extra gaff cards that I wanted to print with MPC. With CMYK, the colors would match nearly perfectly. The spectator can't see or feel that a gaff card is from a different printing company.

I'm glad that I decided to print some MPC Lavenders, otherwise I would have seen this huge rookie mistake that I made in a few weeks on the printed proofs from USPCC. As you can see in the image, the lavender tone turned out too dark. Something I should have known since CMYK colors always turn out darker in print.

This gives me a bit more time to find the right CMYK color. But this is also a longer process since I need to send everything to a printing company who would send me different colors back on a sheet. I already know I'll desperately try to find the right color. Which is really complicated when you have five or six colors which almost look the same but at the end it makes a huge difference. I've already found a Pantone color, which I think I'm very happy with. But then there won't be any extra gaffs.

At the end something positive that you can also see on the photo - the marking system is really really easy to read. I was afraid that the suits would be a bit too small but they aren't. Love it.

I'll keep you updated but I can promise you the final color won't be that dark.

If there is anyone of you who hasn't yet subscribed on Kickstarter - y tho? :D
