The Lone Gunmen - 1x1 "Pilot" Full Reaction

The Lone Gunmen - 1x1 "Pilot" Full Reaction

Actually this was during the second half of season 8. Season 8 was (00/01), and season 9 was (01/02). Fun Fact 1: Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund had to travel a lot between sets in 2001. While The X Files was shot in Los Angeles, The Lone Gunmen was shot in Vancouver to reduce costs, as the show had a much lower budget, compared to The X Files. So there were 2 different sets for the Lone Gunmen offices, one for each show. Fun fact 2: The idea for the spinoff already came up, after the success of The X Files ep "Unusual suspects", season 5. But it was "Three of a kind", season 6 when they figured out how a Lone Gunmen based show could work.

Yes, they published that magazine right from the beginning. It was often shown and mentioned in the X Files. Mulder has a subsciption of course. 😅 When Mulder introduces Scully to them in the season 1 episode "E.B.E" he already describes them as the publishers of the magazine "The Lone Gunmen." But there is some discontinuity about it. In season 4 "Musings of a cigarette smoking man", that magazine is called "The magic bullet". 🤔

Yes, that was a strong entry, into the spinoff. As you already should know, there is a theme song. But they didn't have the intro sequence yet. Just like X Files. The X Files pilot also came without an intro or theme song. No, the video game girl (from First Person Shooter), isn't in the show. The opening scene from "Jump the shark" showed various scenes from both shows, X FIles and The Lone Gunmen, and there also were scenes from "First person shooter", and I think that got you confused. By the way, Tom Braidwood did all the stunts by himself, including the Mission Impossible scene..😅 No joke, I saw the making of and they said they offered him a stunt double, but he didn' want that. The show was created by Chris Carter, Vince Gilligan, John Shiban, Frank Spotnitz. Gilligan, Shiban and Spotnitz were the driving force behind it. They came up with the idea, they wrote most of the scripts. Of course CC had to put his name on it, as it takes place in the universe he created, but his involvement here wasn't that big. The end credits even mention James Wong and Glen Morgan, as the creators of the characters. The main director of the show was Bryan Spicer, who also direcred "Three of a kind" that X Files episode with the LGM and Scully in Las Vegas. Yes, the 9/11 "prediction". Was a big deal back then. If you watch the making of, you see that the writers feel very uncomfortable about the whole thing. The show came to germany after 9/11, and all the scenes that mentioned or showed the World Trade Center were cut from the episode. So you only knew they wanted to crash the plane somewhere in Manhattan, but not exactly where. Sadly this is what the show is most famous for. Even a lot of people who aren't fans of TXF or TLG still debating how that one show from 2001 "predicted" 9/11. The Simpsons effect. But of course it all was by coincidence. I guess you already finished the show, or at least almost finished it. But you should drink everytime someone makes fun of Langlys hair. 😅 Great reaction as always. Looking forward to more. 🙂
