Better Call Saul 3x7 Watch Along

It's actually Vince Gilligan's idea, he said that comedy actors make for great drama actors and honestly that tracks pretty good

Arianna could probably use a Pottery Wheel.

Arson Stays Up Too Late Watching Video Tapes

I own the BB DVD and on the extras they spoke about how hot it gets in summertime there and thus all filming was in wintertime. plus, the desert gets really cold at night!!

exactly right. Mike's breaking bad moment hasn't happened yet--he is still a good person at heart

It took me a lot of rewatches to understand why Mike suddenly agreed to the job with Nacho after he heard the story of Anita's husband, you almost got there in the end but I think you didn't quite connect the dots. Like you said, the story reminded him of the good Samaritan that helped the truck driver Mike tied up in the desert and that Hector killed. Mike thinks this innocent guy is like Anita's husband, gone without explanation and his family and friends will never know what happened. So he sees this deal as an opportunity to get back in contact with Nacho to find out where they buried that guy. That's what he wanted Nacho to tell him to write down in his notepad, where he can find him so his family can get closure. Also, opinions are generally very split among fans on just how premeditated that last scene with Jimmy at the insurance company was. A lot of people think that this idea to throw Chuck under the bus just came to him in the moment but the more I think about it, the more I think it must have all been planned for way longer. I think the idea came to him after Kim reminded him of what they did to Chuck in that bar. She feels guilty but Jimmy doesn't want to feel guilty because he's so bad at dealing with his emotions, especially around Chuck. It's easier to hate him and just write him off, pretend like there's only one side to the story and don't deal with the possible guilt. And this act of pettiness when it comes to the malpractice insurance is almost just to reinforce that feeling in Jimmy, that his brother deserves everything bad that happens to him and that he wants Chuck to feel as low as he does. And if you look at how the scene plays out, it all just seems so orchestrated. The fact that he even takes the time to be in that office at all when we constantly see him under a lot of stress to sell his ads, and when he probably knows that he's never getting that money back. The fact that he doesn't have his insurance number and just gives her the name "McGill", not even adding James, to make sure she sees Charles first, so that when he's later talking about his brother, she knows who that is. And then breaking down in front of her, that's so unlike Jimmy, we've never ever seen him be actually emotionally honest in front of anyone, not even really with Kim. At most, we see him break down a couple times when he's alone, but he never forgets to put up a facade around other people, so that instance here just seems so wrong. And then also the way he talks during that, "my gal is disappointed in me", like is she? And since when do you call her that? The whole thing seems very fake and planned out to me.

I always wondered about that. I was like, "Jesus, Jesse is wearing a warm-ass hoodie in the desert!"

In Saul's introduction in Breaking Bad, I remember the first time watching the scene in the desert at night when Walt & Jessie try to scare Saul. After all of these years the thing that sticks in my mind was how cold it was when they were shooting -- you could see the wind whipping through the plants, you could see the breath of all of the actors, you could practically see them shivering as their exposed skin became chapped. Hadn't thought about it previously, but after that I was always aware that they were shooting in the cold months and the outdoor scenes had to be excruciating for the actors and crew.

They cast a lot of people from the comedy world. The vet guy is a stand-up comedian. And the lady at the insurance office, she's from the improv comedy scene. And I believe the film student kid with the glasses does stand-up too. And of course, Bob Odenkirk and Michael McKean come from comedy.

Girls, you mentioned how its cold--its so hot in the summer in NM, the producers always filmed both BB and BCS in the wintertime, that's why everyone is always in jackets.

Good ep, great reaction! IMO, the best lies are the ones with some truth in them. Walter White knew this. Jimmy McGill knows this. I'm sure deep down a lot of the stuff he was saying was true + how he feels, even if the purpose was to kick Chuck in the teeth lol. One think I'm noticing this rewatch is how they often add an extra layer to the dialog to make it more believable. In the Nacho / Wormald scene, the easy thing would be to have Wormald say "yeah I can get the pills" but instead they make him clarify he has to order in test samples... there's a small reason for this (to add a delay) but a more obvious show would have just had him say yes straight away. Each episode of BCS has a dozen 'more interesting' choices in it.

Just a heads-up: this is in the Ted Lasso (Full Length) collection, not the Better Call Saul one :)

It still feels so random to have the Sklar brothers pop up to essentially cameo as the music shop owners. But I guess they've done a lot of one-off appearances on other shows like Always Sunny and Curb, so it's not too out of left field. "Who is Kevin Costner?" Every video, I'm becoming more and more aware of just how young Maple actually is...
