And I think the ending was great. The predictable thing would have been to just have Sofia die. I think him sending her back to Arkham was a great play and just shows how evil he truly is.

I know yall aren’t probably super into dc news and movies. But this show is supposed to set up and lead into the Batman 2. Oz was never going to die. It’s supposed to show how he got into power from the first movie to the 2nd movie. You aren’t supposed to liek or root for oz the whole point is to make you hate him and and want Batman to beat the shit out of him in the next movie lol. Sofia was a created character and they completely nailed her. She was incredible. So I’m very glad she isn’t dead and they set up for her to team up w her half sister (cat woman from the Batman 1) she forsure needs to be in future shows/movies. She is absolutely awesome.

Sometimes predictability is better than subversion. Predictability shows the writing is logical and character decisions make sense, subversion can sometimes just be nonsense coming outta nowhere just for the sake of surprising you.

she is suppose to be a core part of batman 2 and she would've never met her sister (cat woman) and she can actually redeem herself truthfully at least working on the good side its sad we don't get more and its the penguins story at the end of the day. Also the joker comment is not the joker lol so maybe a bad comparison. you will see that in joker 2 and you say its not creative enough but y'all didn't even pick it up before 10 seconds like it was very clear when he was talking in the court room and y'all didn't say a word so you didn't predict it you even said she was gonna die. she will be back its sad af but it was great lol

Weakest writing and dumbest thing Sofia did for me was to put a guy the size of Oz in a wooden chair bound with duct tape with so few bodyguards.

I'm not sure the "gotcha again" hits the same way as how it actually plays out. Penguin doesn't need to say got you again in the car... in my opinion it takes away from the moment she is arrested. When she turns her back she accepts death and the cruel twist of fate is she was again blindsided by Penguin setting her up for a second arrest and a trip back to Arkham a fate worse than death to Sofia. He also needed a ladder to help him reach into the world of politics in Gotham since his drug operation and henchman went up literally in smoke. Sofia's arrest did that because he needed an end for her that kept his hands "clean". Yes all of the things Oz does is formulaic in terms of bad guy actions (except every action he takes is pushed to the extreme) but we were led to believe in early episodes he had some redeeming underdog qualities when in actuality he's completely evil and self serving. At this point if Batman brings down the Penguin I will be pissed as I hope Sofia and Selina do it themselves although I'm aware this likely won't happen.

I get that emotions are high but saying "Is this thing going to happen" 10 seconds before it happens isn't really indicative of something being predictable, it's just shows that you're not sleeping lol.

No one is mad, it seems like some people are struggling with their relationship to women characters. We said we don’t mind them both being punished and wish it was more creative ultimately. They did good with OZ but hers is lackluster. They missed a good call back opportunity to when she is originally arrested penguin could have made sure she understood this time that he is putting her back in Arkham because she should not have trusted him again. They’re both bad guys in the Gotham universe in the comics everyone is in and out of Arkham. It’s not a problem Penguin is not a winner he’s literally fucking the idea of his mom while she’s just waiting to die that’s horrible! But the worst of it for Sofia is to get gently arrested? We just feel they had an opportunity to be more intentional.

We all brainstormed after and wish they would have had her situation be a call back maybe to the episode she’s originally arrested with penguin driving and she’s talking about “I trusted you” looking at her in the mirror and lights and sirens come on behind them with her in the back but this time maybe he maintains the eye contact in the mirror like “gotcha again” kinda of vibe where this time he doesn’t even hide that it’s him putting her back in punishing her for trusting him again when she should have known better.
The way they did it was a little lazy compared to hot intense and amazing the rest of the show was. It’s not about either of them being “on top” because they aren’t. Also nothing to do with He’s pathed and reduced to delusions with his mother as a vegetable and he fuck the memory of her through a transactional relationship and she cartoonishly gets arrested and put back into Arkham. Like that’s it? They could have done something more interesting with her since she is mostly a from scratch character and they took a lot of creative liberties. Her story is so bad ass they’re also bad guys and in the comics they’re all in and out of Arkham so that’s fine we just found it to be not that intentional of an ending.
I think I agree it comes across as you have some personal opinions about women, but this is not what we were even getting at. They both bad guys in the Gotham world. Not “girl bosses” sorry you feel that way and hope this helps.

I don't have a problem with female characters. I thought Sofia's character was great. I just don't like the bate and switch that Hollywood has been doing in the last decade with female characters upstage the male characters all in the name of female empowerment. It's a trend that is slowly going away now. "Instant classic" is just an opinion my friend. But I tell you this show will be remembered in the years to come.

Are you guys actually mad because the Sofia didn't come out on top? A lot of shows and movies have been leaning towards the girl boss upstaging the male protagonist, or in the pinguins case, antagonist in his own show or movie. For example look what happened to Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Dr Who, Marvel and on and on. All these franchises are now a shell of their former selves because they went the direction were a girl boss upstage the male main character. I'm glad the Pinguin didn't go that route, and because of that, this show became an instant classic.

Sofia wasn’t well known or used in the Batman lore. Which I love when an unused side character even to those that read the comics can be the show stealer and expand the universe is great. I think this show made it where Sofia has to be a part of the next story whether it’s Batman 2 or a Catwoman series/film. She could play a big part in bringing Penguin face to face with Batman. Catwoman could break her out of prison. Though I agree it was predictable but because of the fantastic execution of the actors and the possibility of Sofia in the batman universe I wasn’t disappointed. She’s a great villain with the potential of turning good. A good mirror for Catwoman too as both are more of an anti hero at this point. Catwoman leans good and grew up poor. Sofia leans bad and grew up rich. Both betrayed by their father who killed both mothers. I love the possibility. A team up maybe. It solidified Penguin as a true villain which I’m excited for an unsympathetic villain for Batman. No redemption for Penguin.

Revenge is a fools game, thats the point of Sofia's story. She could have left at any time, she could have just left at the start and let it go, she could have left when the Falcones told her to go to Italy, she could have left after the scene in the Jazz hall, but her need for revenge blinded her. Tropes are tropes for a reason, they are awesome story telling devices, subverting expectations isn't something that works for every piece of media. If Sofia got her way and got out of the car in the hanger and just instantly shot Penguin in the head and then the series ended there would it have been better? I don't think so. She had already won in the Jazz club, but that wasn't enough.

You've got to make Oz absolutely horrendous so that in Batman 2 when he gets his ass beat, you go "Hell Yeah."

To respond to maple's disappointment with regards to Sofia's outcome, I think it works cause it speaks to the dangers of revenge and believing your own success will continue. She had won, she hurt Oz in a way more meaningful than killing him. She could have just left Gotham. But she had to wait to get one more shot at him. In gaining all that power and inner strength, she was over-confident and lost. As for the somewhat mundane manor in which it all goes down, I think it plays well into how the whole mess got started.

The song during Sofia’s arson is a cover of an old blues song “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” by the Sleigh Bells (Nirvana did a cover as well).
