Stranger Things 2x1

And Mikey from Goonies! (Which I think is why he specifically was cast in Season 2 of Stranger Things...) Each season has a famous actor from the 80s in it and they chose actors specifically from movies that influenced the writing of their respective season in big ways: S1 - Matthew Modine (Vision Quest/Full Metal Jacket), S2 - Sean Astin (The Goonies), S3 - Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride/Robin Hood: Men In Tights), S4 - Robert Englund (Nightmare On Elm Street), S5 - Linda Hamilton (The Terminator). And the pattern appears to be that each famous 80s actor's appearance seems to specifically subvert the expectations the audience might have about the character that the specific actor is playing in Stranger Things based upon the famous character they played in said famous 80s movie. So Matthew Modine plays a government based villain (instead of a sports based protagonist) in Season 1, Sean Astin is a somewhat cautious introverted adult (as opposed to a bold young inspiring group leader prone to risk taking) in Season 2, Cary Elwes plays a corrupt politician and villain (as opposed to a maverick morally grey hero that challenges a corrupt leader) in Season 3, Robert Englund is set up specifically as a red hearing to make you think that he's a psychic villain that uses people's fears and lowest moments in life to torture them in order to wage psychological warfare on them (very much like Freddy Kruger) but in a big twist he's revealed to actually be a heroic victim who stumbles upon the way to fight back against the real monster behind it all. Not sure what Linda Hamilton's role will be like in Season 5 yet but it seems likely that even though she appears to be a government agent of some sort, her character will, in some important ways, be the opposite of or at least a point of contrast to Sarah Connor.

2024-02-17 00:08:57 +0000 UTCI'm so glad ya'll picked up on Mike's depression because surprisingly, a lot of people don't/didn't. It got so bad, people arguing about it, that the Duffers had to confirm he was suffering from deep depression throughout the season. And don't worry, all (or most of) your questions will be answered. I'm so excited for ya'll to watch this season, it's my personal fav and I hope you enjoy it!
