This is my second favorite season.

Definitely one of the better seasons IMO.

All I will say Shelley is i've been waiting a long time for you to get to Season 11 Enjoy the Ride!

Much as I love Crowley, he just murdered 4 people in this ep alone. If Sam or Dean had killed him long ago, that's 4 more people that would be alive. Saving people has been out of the cards for awhile.

It is easy to forget a spell or plot point the first time or two. So much happens that rewatches are needed to remember it all.

You will love this season. It has depth and nuance and lots for you to get your teeth into.

Everyone has said everything very well in the comments. The only thing I can add is that I always thought Carver's run as showrunner had a lot of parallels and with earlier seasons except in reverse (like Cain mentioned in Executioners Song). S8=S5, S9=S4, S10=S3 and S11=S2. I digress, it's not exact, but the overall plots or flavor tends to be similar...just with extra baggage and even some personal growth.

Sam wants to find the answer. Dean wants to get one thing right so he has motivation to fight. I love how even as Dean is still arguing, Sam's words are cutting through and suddenly, without skipping a beat Dean acknowledges his brother's need to act though different from his own and asks in a quieter tone 'okay, so what do you want to do'. These are grown ass men in an insane situation and Dean doesn't pull the 'I'm your big brother' card. Doesn't mean he won't ever do it again but it is growth.

Poor Sam. He's constantly getting bled on throughout the series.

Love season 11 and yes this episode had a lot and was a little confusing but the next couple eps clear things up and really set the stage for a big season.

A very confusing episode but it gets a lot clearer throughout the next few episodes, and it’s the start to a very good season. I think the best thing about this episode though is the comparison of Sam and deans philosophies. Sam prioritises the big picture over the individuals, and dean prioritises the individuals over the big picture. That’s not to say that Sam doesn’t care about individuals and dean doesn’t care about the big picture, because they very much do, but their priorities are the opposite, highlighted by deans priority being saving the baby and Jenna, and sams priority being figuring out a cure. It’s also very consistent with them throughout the seasons: eg, in s3e12 when Sam was willing to kill the virgin girl in order to save the others, but dean wasn’t willing to.

Baby darkness is here. Sam and dean finally talk about their methods and how they do things is not really following the goals they set out with. Saving people, hunting things. Both Cas and Sam are now facing the consequences of their actions by being punished by the things they let escape. Sam is infected by the darkness smoke and i never realized that his primary trait is running away and drinking blood and being a monster lol. Both Sam and Cas are literally monsters now after what they did last season. Sort of karmic punishment. Crowley chose to have an orgy instead of saving himself quickly which is interesting. He is not focused on hell anymore. I am surprised you already forgot the spell rowena first used on the ladies in girls, girls, girls. That is the same one she is now using on cas. The infected sort of all have the mark of cain now as they become monsters.
