This reminds me of the phrase: "Proud of you." People will behave all kind of ways and still so want you to be proud of them, but is proud even the best word to describe how you feel about another human being? As entrepreneur Hoiyee Cheung says, rather than pride, "from what I learned from growing up and from my elders it is a feeling of 'heart-filled'" how we feel about those we love. And this relates to the "performance" that I think all genders feel judged by. When you find people you just feel loved by for you, the words "pride" and "respect" feel cold in comparison to the true feeling of love or "heart-filled" when you see them.
