Markarth: fun things to do

Calling on Skyrim nerds, my players just did the drinking contest with Sam Guevenne, and have woken up at the temple of Dibella in Markarth, the twist is they also don’t have ANY of their gold. They can either retrace their steps like in the quest to get their gold and the staff, but i wanna have fun options if they decide to explore Markarth!

The party is made up of a wood elf Circle of dreams druid, a Dwemer bard that can use a magical pick to animate and control Dwemer tech, a oath of the watcher (modified for Hermeaus mora) dark elf/dremora paladin, and a Dragonborn Way of 4 elements monk.

Would love ideas related to the lore of the city!

These are all fantastic ideas! Definitely chose it for my dwemer mainly because the whole city so tied to them. also, I am planning on making the forsworn a bit of a misunderstood “enemy/friend“ for my Druid, could be a good place to start that for sure! Will look into the silver blood family, might just run around Markarth for a few hours in the game haha

Also forgott to mention Reachmen are full of interesting lore. There's obviously the Hagravens and Briarhearts. The Hagravens are cursed beings, witches who can use a special technique to replace the heart of a Reachmen warrior with briarhearts to empower them. Usually this is reserved for high ranking members. But also some reachmen were into Hircine and werewolves for example. Their old gods are mainly a collection of daedra, so you can have even intra-reachmen conflict, maybe a gang of Werewolves are opposed to a gang of Hagraven worshippers. There's also some interesting dwemer idolatry cults in the region in the lore that you could make use of given you have a dwemer in the party.

Markarth has a bunch of dwemer ruins in-game and there's also giant spiders and automatons down there if I recall correctly. There's also that infamous silver mine where prisoners are sent, you could make a whole Reachmen mafia based on the game's questline where the big bad guy is locked up and is controlling the crime world from within prison.

Unrelated, but I noticed that you played out questions for Kaiju No. 8 season two to start. Don't forget about Hoshina's Day Off, the bonus episode before 2x1.

Furthermore, if you need a safe place outside of the city, they could try and gain favor of the Orc Stronghold in the hills if they need time to lay low. The Reach is a VERY good region to be hiding in the nooks and crannies, made evident by the numerous Bandit and Forsworn camps.

Loot

There's a number of very unsavory things happening in Markarth... Namira cannibalism worship, Molag-Bal meddling, all of the Reachmen shaman craziness, and the corrupt leadership. There's a number of big things to accidentally wander into while drunk Lol

Well, you could always tie them up with the Silverblood family, they have their hands in everything. Plus, there is that cultist of Molag Bal. The Dwemer could have a field day considering most of Markarth is Dwemer ruin if I remember correctly. The Forsworn are a constant threat, maybe something with them for your Druid? Something with the Hagravens?

Lostdmg

Have they done anything to piss off the Silverbloods? Or have they done something during their revelry and escapades to get on their bad side?
