Spinal Tap - Stonehenge!
Added 2025-09-12 11:33:06 +0000 UTCWith the new Spinal Tap movie coming out, I had to give Stonehenge a proper tab treatment. If you squint at the video, you’ll even see the amp in the background going to eleven (small detail, but it had to be there).
This is actually my first time adding a mandolin tab on the channel. I hope you have one around to practise on! There isn’t much clear footage of the finger positioning on this tune - camera work in the live clips doesn’t really show much - so I did my best educated guessing and tabbed what I heard from the original recording.
For the overall sound, we didn't go for matching the original mix like we try to do here. We just had fun with it, and it came out sounding a little more modern. And just to clarify, this isn’t the new Elton John version (though I definitely recommend checking that out too).
I’ve always loved the first rockumentary and couldn’t be more excited for the new release! Enjoy the tab and turn it up to 11!

2025-09-17 10:12:55 +0000 UTCMWAHAHA! Discovered a low-priced mandolin in a Telecaster shape! It's even black! I'd prefer Strat-shape, but close enough! Probably won't, but it's reassuring to know it exists! And now I'm curious enough, next time I'm at our locally owned and fantastic guitar shop (Music 6000 in Olympia, WA!) that's been my shop since I was ~12 I'm going to plunk about on a mandolin for the 1st time! (I'm a weirdo, though, FTOR. My 2 favourite bands are Halestorm and Indigo Girls, so lots of headroom for plunking on a mandolin!)
