1.14 Preview #2 | Editor Concept

Happy Valentine's Day!

My love to you is this new screenshot of what I've been up to, a slight redesign to the full log editor. I'm mainly playing around with this because I want to take this opportunity to flesh out features adjacent to editions.

My thought process is that both time tracking and the library will need to be expanded in terms of options, which is pretty difficult with the amount of space on the current editor. Putting them behind their own tab gives an entire editor's worth of space to work with.

Then moving all logs to the navigation was mainly a way to utilize the new space, I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on it yet though. Same with putting time tracking and library entries behind their own tabs. The first editor redesign avoided this so that data isn't hidden and cumbersome to enter, so I might want to think a bit more on how it could work on a single page before going in this direction.

Just an example of something that is purely work-in-progress and might get scrapped, but I'd love to hear your opinions on it / what the editor is currently missing that you think you'd benefit from.

Best,

MrProg

Looks nice! I'm usually on mobile with this too (iPhone 8, soon to be iPhone 14). Really the only thing I question UX-wise here whenever I'm logging a game is having to do the math of adding all time played sessions together to come up with the total time played for a log (hopefully to also get more time spent on games to see what the average time to beat is). I originally got confused about the difference between inputting it in each session vs the total log. I'm assuming that'll be accounted for in the time tracker. Still great regardless.

This looks awesome! I would give the page some hierarchy so that it is easier to navigate I'd make the left panel 2/3 width, and the right side 1/3 width

iPhone 14; thanks!

The edition selector is looking very promising! And I love seeing the library feature getting more attention, it would be awesome to see it expanded beyond the log editor. Are there any plans for a library section in the profile where we can see all of the library entries together? Also I've always thought that the library entries, medium and played on features shouldn't be exclusive to the full editor, that these should also be included in the quick editor maybe in the advanced expandable tab or adding another tab (similar to the mobile editor), in order to show these options to the users who prefer the quick log layout. Do you plan on adding these options to the quick editor?

I'm intrigued by the implication of the time tracker and library feature getting expanded in terms of options. What do you got in mind?

It looks very nice. A subtle change that I think would look nice to give more order to the elements would be to have “Log Title” be the first to appear along with the edition of the title, then followed by another row with “rating”, “Like”, “Replay”, “Mastered” and lastly add “Time Played” to that row. In the third row I would put “Platform” then “Played on” and finally “Medium”. And the last row would be for the review. So the elements would look like this: 'Log Title' → 'Edition' 'Rating' → ‘Like’ → ‘Replay’ → ‘Mastered’ → ‘Time Played’. 'Platform' → ‘Played on’ → ‘Medium’ 'Review' In the calendar part, the “Today”, “Start”, “Finish” buttons could go below the calendar, as there is a lot of empty space on the right side because of these, that space could be used to make the other elements bigger or give them a better arrangement

Do you mind sharing what phone you have? I'd like to account for your screen size as I tweak some things!

MrProg more like MrBased this is so awesome

I think it looks great! Personally I mostly use this modal on my phone, so I'm really looking forward to when we get some improvements in the mobile layout. The Journal is hard to use because you have to scroll up and down the calendar to pick a date, and I always end up accidentally touching a date on the calendar and opening the "Play Session" modal. The Library tab is borderline unusable on mobile, I have to change my phone's orientation back and forth between portrait and landscape during the process in order to pick from the Platform and Ownership dropdowns. Thanks for all your hard work! I'm super stoked that the site has gotten so much more stable and we're getting all these great updates!

i think this is pretty great tho id love if you made it easier to delete logs without as much searching. Like a trash icon in the Switch Log menu next to each log to allow you to remove them from the editor itself.

If I'm understanding your hesitation, a graphical indicator on the tabs may help; similar to a notification-like symbol. This will let you know at a glance that data has been entered for another edition. Doesn't help you having to click over to see it but at least you'll realize its there. Sidenote: a Copy-to-xEdition function may be useful, especially initially.

The library being shifted into its own tab opens up a lot of possibilities. I originally came to the site looking for a new library tracker, so it’ll be really cool to see that feature fleshed out in the future.

Just the feature suggestion relating to logs: I'd like to see a way to copy over your play time from surfaces like Playstation, Steam, Xbox, Etc. Being able to import my Play Time rather than having to look it up on my console every time I log a game would be great! I know exophase does a really good job of being a central location for every platform including playtime stats, so I look into integration with them maybe?
