Pseudospinosaurus

Had they not become extinct, pseudosuchians could have probably evolved into forms that resemble outdated "retro" views of dinosaurs.

Here is Pseudospinosaurus - a speculative form which resembles our old view of Spinosaurus.

The origin of this idea came from the bipedal, generalist pseudosuchian Poposaurus.

I imagined a descendant of this species that was specialized for a fishing existence - much like the attenuated dromaeosaur Austroraptor.

It is clear to see certain morphotypes evolved again and again as animals adapted for similar niches - and perhaps my speculative Pseudospinosaurus is not even that fanciful. Pseudosuchians were extremely diverse in a way which we still do not truly understand. I wouldn't be surprised if an animal like this was actually discovered someday.

Please see this post for a similar "false dinosaur" from this same speculative universe.

Thank you all for supporting me on Patreon, and beyond.

Even moreso than the carnosaur-headed Spinosaurus, this reminds me of early 2000s depictions of Suchomimus that gave it a low-slung neck and hunchback. Absolutely love these and would love to see more from this alternate world!
