glad you are having discussion about freewill vs determinism .. its 50-50 because for example .. in my religion it says your life, livelihood and respect (reputation/honor) whatever you wanna call it , is in the hands of God.. For example , you were born in a poor village in Ghana or you know some place that is not doing so well and born in a poor home, your environment, your financial situation everything will shape you and you won’t become the youtuber you have become. And same way, mainstream media tries to downplay many people that have come out of it, that people fuck with, like Nelson Mandela was in US Terror Watch list until 2008.. They had media campaign ridiculing him so it does not matter what people think or MSM thinks, its in the hands of God .. but definitely you gotta make conscious decisions to shape you life Another i wanna add is like people that are handicapped, born that way with deficiencies , down syndrome.. they dont have a chance cuz .. they are restrained by nature so there is free will and there is fate or determinism.

2025-02-19 23:16:49 +0000 UTCAs far as the subconscious thing goes, I think what the commenter meant was related to the fact that every conscious decision you make is predetermined by the environment and the tools you had to deal with : your genetics, the place you grew up, the experiences you had, what you parents taught you etc… Even your desires could be shaped up by your genetics and your experiences (Ex : some people with higher sex drive have higher levels of testosterone or have been sexually abused as children). So the question is : how many of the choices you make are coming from you (your soul or whatever you want to call it) and how many of them are due to the external forces that shaped you. Do you really have free will ? P.S. That’s also the whole plot of the Matrix movie series
