BIRD CRIMES

AN UPDATE ON PHYSICAL COPIES: I have messed up on the physical copies. They have been sat on my living room table for a solid month; I have been prioritising other things over them, and I'm sorry about that.

(Also! I have Covid now, apparently! I feel okay, broadly, but I cannot really think much and I'm not going to be leaving the house for a bit.)

Anyway. Here's the plan: I'm going to release March's game (this one) and April's game (with Alex Roberts, about half-written, gonna be a good one) and then print everything and mail out six months' worth of games in one go. And then maybe take a break for a bit, I think?

Thanks for your patience, everyone. And your continuing support; collaborating with other artists has been really interesting, challenging and rewarding. ANYWAY. BIRD CRIMES:

--

Chris and I had this idea for a game a while ago on our now-defunct podcast Hearty Dice Friends: what if we did something about what is objectively the least impressive and possibly the funniest out-of-context crime, which is illegally transporting rare birds across national borders?

BIRD CRIMES began life as HARRIED FLIGHT, a game about smuggling rare birds on a passenger jet. I brought the concept to Xalavier Nelson, the busiest man in videogames, who immediately said:

"What if the birds get a gun?"

This is the sort of untrammeled genius that I was expecting from the creator of An Airport for Aliens Currently Run By Dogs and Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator; obviously the stakes weren't high enough. We have to arm the birds. The rest fell into place relatively smoothly, including a full hour-long writing session which we spent solely naming and coming up with appropriate crimes for birds. It was a joy to tune in to Xalavier's wavelength and collaborate together, and I'm happy with the result. I hope you are too.

Yours,

- Grant

EDIT, March 23: Turns out I didn't have Covid? But my partner does, real bad, and I felt rubbish all last week despite testing negative on Friday, and again on Monday. Strange. Have been hiding in my flat regardless.

I'm sorry about the COVID! I hope you get to feeling better soon.
