Apologies for the late and brief post as I've been in the middle of a wonderful shoot in NYC. But I got to go into Mammoth Cave and film! It was a real blast :D . Ranger Jim was an amazing guide!
What else do you all want me to do on Translator Fails? I feel like that channel is getting a little stuck. Any thoughts of how to stay on brand without getting repetitive?

I was thinking about the bit on the Airplane security video where Google translated a line and made it seemed like a life’s coaching advise. It would be interesting and hilarious to see what google translate understands with motivating lines and how it could prepare you to apply for a job and help you to be more confident xD

2019-05-14 16:44:46 +0000 UTCSo one of my favorites of the random CDs I own is “Lullabies From the Axis of Evil” - native singers from Iran, Iraq, Serbia, etc singing lullabies for their children in both their native languages and English. Building on that, maybe do translator failed versions of different cultures’ folk and traditional songs? Particularly if you can provide links to original language and properly-translated versions as well - expand your viewers’ exposure to music from around the world.

ME! - Taylor Swift, Boy with Luv - BTS & Halsey, If I Can't Have You - Shawn Mendes, Eastside - Khalid & Halsey, I Don't Care - Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber? Don't really have any suggestions of new artists. I've just always loved the times when a big new song came out and you immediately GTS'd it, or with new movie music such as A Star is Born or Mary Poppins Returns?

Rare that someone of your talents would apply them to comedy so hilariously and unselfconsciously. :) Since you're open to doing real oldies (ABBA, Beatles, etc.) may I suggest a Simon & Garfunkel translate medley? Your quick take on The Graduate made me think of it. Mrs. Robinson, Sound of Silence, Bridge over Troubled Water, Scarborough Fair, perhaps. You'd have fun with the harmonies and the fuzzy blond wig. Actually now that I think of it, a straight rendition of Scarborough Fair would probably be amazing too.

I can understand that you want innovations to avoid repetitions but actually the concept, the idea is so awesome I cannot be bored. So I would say, keep covering songs with lyrics translated by Google Translate and play comedy just like you usually do and people will be glad. What songs cover ? Well you did Bohemian Rhapsody but you can make other Queen. Why not some Irene Cara (what a feeling, Fame...)? And iconic songs like "imagine" of John Lennon, "Hallelujah" of Leonard Cohen, "Song of silence" of Simon and Garfunkel, "I believe I can fly" of R. Kelly, "What a wonderful world" of Louis Armstrong...

I was also thinking it might be fun to relive our nostalgia again like you did in the 90's video by doing a medley of Children's Songs (twinkle twinkle little star, Row Your Boat, Ring around the Rosy, Mary Had a Little Lamb, maybe even Baby Shark, etc). I thought that could be silly and fun! Also, I just noticed today that you haven't yet done any Beyonce on GTS and I would kill to see your rendition of the Single Ladies video!!!

Marisol above, though: if you're not feeling it anymore, absolutely take a step back. You've given us so much great content over the years. We'll be okay.

2019-05-06 04:51:37 +0000 UTCHonestly, though I love the Translator Fails songs, if you're feeling burned out by them I'd rather see new ones less often that you're excited to do than see you struggle to keep something from becoming a creative burden to you. I'm not an internet content creator and am aware that there's a lot I don't know about keeping a constant feed of updates going to maintain an audience, but I'd hope that people who are at least willing to support your creative work wouldn't leave because you need to slow down production to avoid burnout. We're not buying a product; we're supporting an artist, and to me that doesn't require someone performing on demand. As a suggestion for future videos, it would be fun to see singers in other parts of the world collaborate with you on doing translations of popular music from their countries, running it through google translate and have you sing the English version while they do the original, or some mix like that. There's so much to play with when it comes to language interpretation, like running a tour brochure for a site through different languages and having someone try to do a tour of it with the end product.

Maybe a medley. 2) A medley of Oklahoma songs. 3) David Bowie medley, although his songs are already weird enough, but then, so are the Beatles. 4) Simon and Garfunkle songs or a medley (yes, I am old). 5) Madonna songs or medley (Translations or just covers). 6) Sondheim Medley - challenge yourself. 7) Don't Stop Believing, Roar, Party in the USA, I Want to Break Free, Twistin the Night Away, Somebody to Love, I Wanna Dance with Somebody. In response to your post of a couple of months ago about covers: Emeli Sande, Read All About It; Vonda Shepherd, The Wildest Times of the World, and Maryland; Man in the Mirror because we may need a new version of it now; Dogs in the Yard from 'Fame'. I know this is weird but would you do a version of Dixie Wailin' from Fraggle Rock? No-one's done a decent one. And agreed with the above: I love absolutely everything that goes up on Translator Fails, but it’s GTS that got me into the channel and that’s where I do most of my rewatches (because on top of being hilarious, it’s genuinely good music and there have been so many occasions where I like your version better than the original). The Broadway and Disney ones are my favourite, like I’d love to hear you do Cell Block Tango from Chicago, or anything from Waitress, or A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd, or Time Warp from Rocky Horror, or even a Disney song that’s a musical exclusive like Monster from the Frozen Broadway show.

But, some other ideas would be to take a more classical-ish song, such as a German lieder song or an Italian aria (like in that book most voice students inevitably see at some point or another, lol). For non music translates, seeing you try to follow a sewing pattern could be fun.

They never feel samey, there are so many great songs to translate! I personally would love to hear Zydrate Anatomy from Repo. I've really liked the various musicals that you've done.

2019-05-03 22:35:34 +0000 UTCI love the google translated songs. But if you want a bit more variety, here are some random ideas: (Disclaimer: Some of them may be terrible.) Write out descriptions of some dance choreography, put it through Google translate, and try to do whatever nonsense it tells you to (without hurting yourself.) Or do a translated workout video, that we can all try to follow along with at home. (Again, probably some disclaimers needed about injuries.) Get some people to play a game like telephone using Google translate, where they only see the previous bad translation and then have to translate it again and pass it on, and then at the end everyone has to guess what the original message/quote was. (Or if it's easier, you could do all the translation butchery yourself and then have people guess, like what you did with Harry Potter quotes.) Translate another monologue/scene from a play, like you did with Hamlet's "To Be Or Not to Be." And if I could make a song request, it would be Love Story by Taylor Swift. I know it's not recent, but for some reason it just lends itself really well to being hilariously misunderstood by translation software. When I tried it, I ended up with lines like: "When I first saw you, we were lambs. I will close my eyes and start the predators." and "You will be my princess and grandfather, It's a love story, take a baby, just say yes."
