Comments

I think he was sentenced fairly. I agree that in your own home you have the right to protect yourself but the lengths he went to are far beyond necessary especially having the foresight of knowing they we’re probably coming that night.

I think the verdict he received is fair in the sense he 100% planned to murder the teenagers. But something to also I think remember is that he was in the military, he probably had mental health issues due to being in the military. We need more mental health support for those who fight for our country, they’ve been through things us average citizens can’t even imagine.

Definitely was overkill. I agree someone should use lethal force to defend themselves in their home, but after they were down, he should have called or even called when they broke in. Great episode!

I literally just watched a Dateline episode about Byron Smith. I definitely agree it was overkill. Although those kids shouldn’t have broken into his house, and he was for sure in the right to defend him and his home. But they definitely didn’t deserve to die. Especially being shot like that.

Buh I'm from Lapeer Michigan and was not expecting to hear one from Lancing today. I have never heard this one before.

I don’t think its the him shooting in his head is whats wrong but him planning it all in advance. If he had kept the gun under his pillow and then heard them and ran out and shot them, that would be more of a discussion. This wasn’t even self defense.

I believe 1st degree is appropriate due to his planning. These were technically kids not militia.

I feel when people leave the military especially after serving for many years their mind set is different from us civilians. In his eyes Byron was doing right by him not really thinking or understanding the civilian life because again his mind set is military life. I do believe he deserved to get life without parole because he may have some mental issues he never really overcame and he is a danger to the community. Payton you are doing amazing on Binged and I love how we get you telling us stories but still get reactions in MWMH with Garrett. Y’all are amazing, sending lots of love and blessings to you guys and anyone watching and hearing you guys. Hope this community continues to grow ❤️

I 100% agree you have a right to defend yourself especially in your home. But this guy definitely went beyond just defending himself. He basically set them up to kill them. Deserves his jail time!

As a paralegal I understand his conviction & totally believe he should have been charged with murder. That was insane!

Absolutely overkill. He deserved to go to prison.

Loving binged 😃
