Patreon Goals Talk
Added 2019-01-23 01:40:12 +0000 UTCSo, this advanced chapter thing took off way faster than I thought. Was around $780 in December and as of this post, we're sitting at a nice, even $1200. As I said elsewhere, I'm overwhelmed by all the support, and someone on discord reminded about Goals on Patreon, which are a thing.
So the talk is: What goals would you like to see?
First and foremost, more chapter per week is impossible without quitting my job, and while $1200 is a lot of money, its not enough to live off of. I spend about 16 hours on every chapter, mostly because I have a short attention span and a tendency to fixate on word choices that don't matter. Anywho, TL;DR Extra Chapters? Impossiboru
Someone mentioned interludes, like short chapters dealing with something silly, and I might be able to write one of those, but I'll have to test it out. Another suggestion was art, and I'm all for it if you can find me an artist :D (seriously, I'm not joking. Good artists who respond in a timely manner are like unicorns.)
The same person also mentioned a worldbuilding thing, where I write about some details of everyday life you wouldn't neccesarily see in a regular chapter. What this would entail, I haven't really thought about it, but if you like how it sounds, tell me.
If you guys have any other suggestions or requests, heres the place to say them, or you can hit me up on discord. Thank you all again, and hope you enjoyed the latest chapters.

Maybe, but i have a shit mic and a shit voice
2019-01-25 02:39:02 +0000 UTCAnd show you all my face? mm discord has taught me that my readers are weird and i need to keep my address a secret. Also, Im on discord like all the time, anyone can ask me anything anytime.
2019-01-25 02:32:08 +0000 UTCMaybe do a live stream Q&A as a tier goal? Meet and greet at a specified location would be cool as well.
2019-01-23 22:38:07 +0000 UTCThe world buulding sounds really cool. Maps, timelines of events, slice of life stuff.
2019-01-23 20:41:16 +0000 UTCI have a bare bones cast list that I try to keep spoiler free. You can find it on my wordpress here: https://ruffwriterblog.wordpress.com/savage-divinity-cast-list/
2019-01-23 15:16:08 +0000 UTCThis seems interesting. Not sure if I remember all my reasons, but its a possibility.
2019-01-23 15:15:08 +0000 UTCRecording s of chapters read by you and you try to do all te voice s.
2019-01-23 13:11:08 +0000 UTCDay to day life is interesting, and I can give you tips about writing those
2019-01-23 09:49:53 +0000 UTCi know a freelance artist but since she focused on quality and focus more on her actual job, she only produce 1 artwork per month :(
2019-01-23 08:11:06 +0000 UTCI would loooooove an index with all the characters descriptions, family ties and locations. I'm way too confused sometimes by npcs coming back after a few chapters and I'm like ''Who the f*** is this again ?''. And I also support professional art like maps.
Mi
2019-01-23 05:11:44 +0000 UTCART!!! like character profiles, maps and the such each month or what not.
2019-01-23 02:57:32 +0000 UTCYou could maybe post about world design and why you went in certain directions with the story. I.e you've got that bit in the tiers about each faction / region drawing names from specific cultures. You could, for example, expand on that with a 'Bekhai design doc' or talk about how you settled on your Natal Palace concept as an alternative. Another example, I think a long time ago you had a note where you talked about going over your plot outline for the next one or two books after finishing one. You could potentially expand on that by talking about some what-ifs, maybe. I.E. was Baledagh always going to turn out the way he did, or did you ever consider having Rain actually wind up building him a body?

2019-01-23 02:53:47 +0000 UTCYou. I like you :D Still tho, I do wanna do SOMETHING, just dunno what haha
2019-01-23 02:27:02 +0000 UTCHey ruff, I've started reading your novel since the society contest and I am a huge fan of your work. You don't have to do more than you are already doing now. Just keep on writing and see your patreon income as a sign of gratitude from your readers. Thank you and just keep doing an excellent job as you have been doing it the last years

2019-01-23 01:58:02 +0000 UTC..This requires way too much math
2019-01-23 01:56:31 +0000 UTCIt would totally burn your eyes and rend your soul. You don't want this, I don't want it. if someone wants to be my 100$ patron, blinding him or her seems like a bad move yea?
2019-01-23 01:56:20 +0000 UTCI always felt like hosting a contest for art is like scamming the artist for free work. If fans wanna send art in, I'm all for it, but encouraging it as a contest is a bit out of my comfort zone.
2019-01-23 01:55:27 +0000 UTCI like the sound of art or world building.
2019-01-23 01:54:20 +0000 UTCHonestly, I haven't even considered the idea of going full time. I'd have to do a lot of research before i can commit. It's not as simple as saying I need X amount of money. Right now, i have a stable career which (hopefully) isn't going to up and disappear. It's security, you know? Whereas writing might not always be around forever. What happens if I'm a 1 hit wonder? Or if my health deterioates? Or if, I dunno, I get caught up in some stupid internet scandal or sthing? This is just stuff off the top of my head, and I'm sure there are more things to consider, like taxes and setting up a corporation for myself or w.e it is self employed ppl do... But yea. It's a complex question I haven't looked into, and probably won't until things start getting real. I dunno.
2019-01-23 01:53:14 +0000 UTCSeriously though, each tier can have a specific number of votes and each vote can be used to choose a monthly bonus. It can be art, sidestory, worldbuilding, or anything else you think is feasible.
ThePolarParadox
2019-01-23 01:51:00 +0000 UTCThen a $100 tier for your nude pics. đ

2019-01-23 01:49:13 +0000 UTCHow about character design contests art contests? Instead of paying an artist put the money towards a design/art contest that all readers can enter. You pick 5 or 10 entries you personally like and the patrons get to vote. You could limit voters to tiers or pledge time if need be. Plus more people will be directed to the patreon. Obviously a lot of little details that would need to be hammered out, but at least it sounds like a good idea!

2019-01-23 01:48:57 +0000 UTCWorld building works. Timeline of battles at the Bridge. Description of culture in the North. A Ruff layout of the Village. A more detailed description of Rain's orphanage/school along with the average daily sched of a student, etc.
ThePolarParadox
2019-01-23 01:48:44 +0000 UTCSet a goal of 5,000 or whatever it needs to be to go fulltime. It would be possible to set a short term goal to commission art for covers and characters in the meantime.
Skully
2019-01-23 01:48:21 +0000 UTCYes, this is also a possibility, but those side stories take about the same amount of time as a regular one. before I make anything official, I'll try some suggestions out and see if its feasible on a normal posting sched
2019-01-23 01:45:51 +0000 UTCI think worldbuilding would be fascinating. Nothing that will give away future plot developments, but possibly some information about the other provinces, how religion works, rumors about the royal family, or just general history.

2019-01-23 01:44:59 +0000 UTCMore side stories? The one about lin as a kid with rain was adorable! ;P
