Another Grand Imposition

You'll see the results of a poll I did a few months back come to fruition soon. :P

Another Grand Imposition Another Grand Imposition

Thank you. One thing I love seeing is parents acknowledging that they aren't going to be end all be all of their child's existence and ushering them into a new degree of self reliance and independence. I love self awareness like that.

Why do girls with lipstick only have upper lips? This has been disturbing me for some time, it reminds me of the one from Warehouse 13 with the horrible lip-job. Also, yay! Quinn!

Can't reply directly to shedemon's latest, so trying this way: Sorry for the late response, been sick the last few days. You have to realise that what you quoted here and what Herb is talking about have about as many similarities as a Herring and a Scottish Highland Cattle. For if you don't, I fear you fail at the groundworks for participating in any discussion about such topics. So far, you've taken that single word "phase" from his speech and extrapolated from there a lot of things, nothing of it actually being there. All the while completely ignoring context of how, where and under which circumstances the word was used.

Lukas Buergi

It wouldn't be surprising for Rosemary to have thought that Pumpkin was keeping her hair short as a pre-emptive defence against amateur barbers and to have made a comment in that vein. It also wouldn't be odd for Pumpkin to be over-sensitive about it in her current mindset and taken an innocent comment as a criticism or demand that she conform. There's plenty going on with Pumpkin that's a phase at the moment (damned the teen angst...). Sure, sexuality isn't a phase, but moping, locking oneself in their room, and refusing to talk to friends and family is very much an expected teen phase. I'm all with Herb and Rosemary here. Personally they both show hallmarks of good parenting from what I can see. Granted, for Rosemary there's some evidence that she's learned from mistakes, but her dealing with Pumpkin seems pretty good.

That One Guy

Mr. Blue, I was referring to the Parental thought processes, which may be accurate in general, but not in detail... and Ellie may be Pumpkins fave during the con, but when they split up Ellie did a mini-mom action on her leaving with kat, that P. probably did not appreciate... and sorry for responding like this but the reply function seems broken. And did my trolling comment not post on the ILYD edition? Here I expected lOCs for being clever....

The Lurker

Too bad I can't respond to Mr Blue directly. "our own personal Kat" is truly the best way to describe the situation. Cheers, mate.

But those two favor the other as their favorite sister. It seems that the two of them are against the rest of the sisters. Perhaps the only idiosyncrasy that Pumpkin doesn't like about Ellie is the what's his name movies. However, shouldn't the use of short hair just make wearing wigs in Florida easier and have a so called Disney's Tinkerbell influence without casting sexual aspersions onto a character? Besides, it just seems that we're feeding our own personal Kat here.

Mr. Blue

Herb is living in a clan of 8 women, 7 of which have longish hair; he is, not going to see a comment from Rosey about growing out hair as a problem, mainly 'cause bald guys do not "get" hair issues, particularly since historically this bunch chops hair whenever there is a fight between them. I'm betting that Herb (and maybe even Rosey) think Pumpkin has been keeping her hair short as a protest against one of the sisters actions... maybe the one that calls her Mini-Me?

The Lurker

Well nothing here really even says he knows about the Kat instance. Phase here I agree is just "being miserable and grumpy" The shithead brunette comment is easily related to Kat being an obvious shit head :p

BrandX

Wonder what they did, especially after Herb just admitted that his kid confuses the hell out of him.

It means, that by external definition that Danny boy's sexual identity will be changed, and not by his choice.

Mr. Blue

Thanks as always. :)

Here you go: "When I was 14, I learned what transgender meant and cried of happiness. After 10 years of confusion I finally understood who I was. I immediately told my mom, and she reacted extremely negatively, telling me that it was a phase, that I would never truly be a girl, that God doesn’t make mistakes, that I am wrong. If you are reading this, parents, please don’t tell this to your kids. Even if you are Christian or are against transgender people don’t ever say that to someone, especially your kid. That won’t do anything but make them hate them self. That’s exactly what it did to me." - Leelah Alcorn. Telling someone what they're going through, especially when it regards teens and sexual orientation is a red flag. In real life at rate. Probably not in a universe where Rushe is a kinder more benevolent deity.

shedemon

But: Batgirl knowledge!

Lukas Buergi

You know a thing just occured to me. Taking and publishing videos of them in their appartment without knowledge or consent is already a felony when it comes to Ellie and Quinn. What if the underageness of Pumpkin comes into play as well?

Lukas Buergi

You did read what Herb said, right? You know the whole "seeing you miserable" and "shutting yourself up in your room" and not seeing any friends part, explaining what kind of "phase" he was talking about. You really trying to tell me that a parent hoping for such behaviour just being a phase their kid quickly grows out of is a bad thing? Honestly?

Lukas Buergi

I am pretty sure that the main comic arc takes place after Pumpkin's conclusion, or that the over lap is not complete. I am guessing that the reason Ellie is not at the apartment is she is attending one of ass-hat's fake conventions.

I am dying to talk about the incident with the remote control car and the electric weasel.

"Right after she told me I should start growing my hair out"...

shedemon

You have no idea how badly I want to talk about the Noodle Incident.

Necro Critic

He's definitely referring to the grumpiness as a phase.

You're assuming the "just a phase" is referring to sexual orientation. Have you considered maybe it's in reference to being a grumpy teenager?

hunter2

Yes, I thought that was a nice touch too.

That One Guy

Not unless Pumpkin has some reason to change her clothes. Even if Pumpkin has a crush on Quinn, I don't see Quinn reciprocating. I mean, Pumpkin isn't a meatless assclown.

That One Guy

I've been trying not to talk about who grew a third arm. I just feel like that should remain secret for now.

That One Guy

Huh. Just realized we haven't seen Quinn since the new art style.

shadowscribble

Thick irony, thick. Ah the joys of "traditional" values. At least this is just a comic and it won't end in the tragedy of Leelah Alcorn. "Just a phase". Yeah, it's always just a phase to them.

shedemon

That's a very good second point you bring up. The "Ferret Incident" is the one I'm most surprised nobody's talked about.

hunter2

Quinn's posture and facial expression in the last two panels are perfect. :D Also, yay for Pumpkin showing up at the apartment. Perhaps she has the skill to spot the hidden tech that Ellie and Quinn failed to notice. (I'm guessing she has a bonus to her Spot Check when it's technology-related.)

hunter2

*Laughs* That is not where I was going with that at all...I was not think of a single, logical reason. I was thinking more in terms of Quinn's 'not-give-a-damn' attitude towards life and the universe at large. I think Pumpkin just wants to deal with someone not likely to be too judgemental and who iis rather a little bitte towards relationships herself at the moment.

Felli

So, does this occur before or after Mr. Ass-like turned the apartment into the Big Brother house? Not that he's going to care much about whatever Pumpkin has on her mind . . . unless she starts doing some sort of half-naked interpretive dance to fully express herself. Also, since these comments are visible to the non-Patreon viewers, how circumspect do we need to be about the events that happen in these special strips? Are we allowed to talk about what happened with the feather duster, or go into detail about the nailgun incident? And how tight-lipped (ha!) do we have to be about the "OMFG Moment"? Because that was a pretty definitive game-changing event, and to only be able to talk of the consequences obliquely feels a bit constrictive.

Thormation

Is what's happening in the main comic going to have any bearing on this situation? The camera thing could be about to get even more illegal.

Coy Keaton

Quinn's a good choice of people to relate to. She's already had the official family vetting, so she doesn't have to worry about that becoming an issue. She's also not in thrall to any of the family, so she's not going to automatically defer to them. She doesn't know Pumpkin well enough to let that color how she acts. She's close enough to the same age to have a clue about how Pumpkin might feel at this juncture. And she's removed enough that she won't sugarcoat it if she need to dispense some unvarnished truth. In short, she's someone that Pumpkin can trust with stuff that she feels she can't talk with family about, now that she can't talk with her miffed friends.

Thormation

so....she wants to relate to Quinn? Seems legit.

Felli

Your art is continuing to evolve, as is your process and your comedic timing. I'm glad you stuck with it, Rusche.

Sabrina Pandora

I really like Herb 's dialog. He makes no bones about what he wants to say, 'cause after 20 other daughters, he is incapable of sugar coating the truth. But he's filled with love and understanding... in his own way.

Nicholas Stephenson

I like how the boat is tipped. lol

Steve

Herb has had it UP TO HERE with this nonsense! They will have fun, gawddamnit!

And thus was my weekend made.
