Gofile News 2024-10-01

Hello Everyone,

Here are the latest updates on Gofile's development.

We have been working every day since the last post to improve the stability and scalability of the platform, as well as creating new features for the future.

We have migrated our database system to something more robust and scalable across multiple regions. We now have dozens of database servers spread across Europe and the US, making the platform faster to use worldwide. This was a lot of work and took almost two months to complete. We achieved this without any downtime, which is impressive given the platform's popularity and the load on the production database. Technically, we implemented the new database to run in parallel with the old one, making sure all requests worked the same on both sides. This allowed us to migrate data over time and switch to the new system when everything was ready. That was quite an experience!

This makes Gofile way more resilient to outages and scalable to new heights.

Speaking of scalability, we have deployed servers in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in Singapore. Uploads and downloads should be much faster in this region now. Speeds still depend on several factors that are not entirely under our control, but we do our best to bring the content as close as possible to all our users.

Gofile now achieves more than 700Gbps of bandwidth worldwide, with several million downloads per day.

We are also working on an entirely new website/interface to make using Gofile even better. The current interface was created a long time ago, and we didn't necessarily make the best technical choices back then. We are going to fix that. This step is very time-consuming as we need to rewrite everything from scratch. We think we have done about 60% of the work. It will be released before the end of the year.

In the last post, I mentioned rclone integration, and it's now done. Rclone has integrated Gofile in their new version 1.68. You can now synchronize your Gofile content locally thanks to rclone. This is the first step for us to build a complete desktop app. We will keep you updated on that.

The rclone integration gave us the opportunity to completely audit and review our API. We have made many changes internally, especially in terms of internal logic and performance. The API documentation is not 100% up-to-date yet; we need to work on that. We think we will wait for the new interface to release the fully updated documentation.

Thank you for your support. More and more of you are supporting the project. Gofile is set to become a complete cloud-based storage, sharing, and synchronization platform. It's a long way to go, especially when you're developing something with so many users. You have to take precautions to avoid breaking everything. But we're making progress.

See you soon!

Comments

Hello, The issue might be because of all the updates we made to the servers in the last few days. We've restarted the servers at least once a day this week, which could explain what's been happening. During the BETA, we allow ourselves to restart servers without notice so we can develop faster. It might also be a web browser issue, so you might want to try using a different one.

I am happy for all the updates, and appreciate all the hard work you guys are putting into this, but I have noticed a problem recently. Any time I try and upload large files, it seems to fail multiple times unless I constantly keep the web page at the top of my screen and occasionally click over to it, to let the page know I'm still here. This is preventing me from doing things like starting large uploads and being able to walk away/do other things, as right now I have to babysit my uploads in order to make sure they actually complete.

Thank you for the updates and the hard work! Excited to see the new changes.
