If you want to see a movie where they not only show the dragon, but hes also one of the main characters, then I can recommend the movie "DragonHeart (1996)" and the dragon is voiced by Sean Connery.

But the lady was clad in glittering samite!

They came out the same year I think and DS didn’t do well at the box office. Maybe Raiders of the Lost Ark came out around that time and killed it.

Sometimes, I get Excalibur and Dragonslayer confused. I guess it's because they were both sword and sorcery movies that came out when I was very little.

At some point soon to we will have a Batman who's parents were killed outside the Antonio Banderas Zoro.

Originally, jousting was a preliminary contest in tournaments; the main event was the Melee, where two teams would have a mock battle so knights could capture each other for ransom. But it got so out of hand that the Pope and at least one king put an end to it because too many serfs and men-at-arms were getting killed.

I love this movie so much. Trivia: most of the production design was originally intended for a Lord of the Rings movie the director John Boorman wanted to do, but was unable to produce

Next up Dragonslayer!

Arthurian legend is one of those stories that has been retold and added to for, at this point, approximately 1500 years. This is one of the few attempts to tale the story encompassing all/most of the major milestones of the legend (at least in a movie). I think the film makes the wise choice of unifying the film through tone. And yes, like Conan, this absolutely was shown to children.

A lovely reaction, Jen, as always. There are, of course, dozens of different versions of the Arthur legend. This film incorporates elements of several of them. When I first saw this film, when it first came out, I had read two or three different versions of the myth. This film was my very first exposure to Sigfried‘s funeral music from Wagner’s “Gotterdammerung“, and “O Fortuna” from Orff’s “Carmina Burana.“ I have loved both pieces ever since. My favorite aspect of the film has always been Niccol Williamson’s otherworldly portrayal of Merlin, still the most original presentation of that character I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately the writing isn’t very good in this film. Some of the really spectacular actors, like Nigel Terry, Patrick Stewart, Nicol Williamson, and Helen Mirren, are able to pull off good performances even with this crappy dialogue, but I think others, such as Liam Neeson and Gabriel Byrne, are defeated by it. And John Boorman‘s wife as Igraine is just embarrassing.

Sorry, I can't watch this. I keep thinking of the Holy Grail. When the sword came out of the water, I tough of a watery tart or a moistened bint. I should have watched this one first.

I'll have to wait until after work to watch, but I'm so excited for this reaction. If you enjoyed this you should check out the 1981 film Dragonslayer. It's probably my favorite fantasy film.
