The Grey (2011) Full Length Reaction

Well this one is certainly more bleak than The Edge. Liam Neeson v the scary eyes in the darkness v the will to live. What do you guys make of the post credit scene?

The Grey (2011) Full Length Reaction

Comments

There is a movie called The Ghost and the Darkness with Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer from 1996. I haven't seen it, but I heard it was pretty good.

AJ Lynch

I'll toss in a suggestion for 2018's Arctic starring Mads Mikkelsen, which got overlooked and is underappreciated.

Guy Gordon

Lone Survivor was so intense!

'The Terror' (2018) was really classy survival-at-sea drama. Outstanding cast and production. It's a single season story over 10 eps. Season 2 is a different story / characters / time period. Copy-pasted; Ridley Scott’s acclaimed horror series The Terror has finally arrived on UK screens, nearly three years after debuting in the US. The programme, airing here on BBC Two, tells the true story of an expedition to the Arctic in the middle of the 19th Century. Led by Captains Sir John Franklin (played in the series by Ciarán Hinds) and Fracis Crozier (Jared Harris, he played Moriarty in A Game of Shadows), two ships, the Erebus and the Terror, embarked on the doomed voyage in 1845.

The lone hope that Liam won and survived is that the position of the breathing alpha wolf at the end mimicked the wolf that Liam shot but didn't kill right away earlier in the film when he was standing over it. PS, would would have thought the past tense of mimic has a k in it...

Andrew Roach

You should watch 'The Revnant' and 'Alive' (1993), which was a true story.

Ravenous is 👍

This movie was shot in Northern British Columbia, Canada, around the town called Smithers, just a few hours away from where I live. The bar he walks into, the bartender with the scarlett color streak in her hair, that's my good friend Jessy, who lives in Smithers, she was an extra.

This guybdid Smokin' Aces? Did not know that. Definitely more of a fun ride than The Grey, but you gotta have a serious potty mouth bleeper at the ready ;)

Mike Fox

It is good indeed. It's on the vote list.

Mike Fox

Had a great time watching this for first time, I'd also love to recommend "The Revenant" 2015 for another snowy survival film

Matt

I'm not sure if you've seen it already and it's not a movie, but the AMC series "The Terror" (Season 1) is a good survival story, based on true events. It's only 10 episodes long. I remember really enjoying it when I watched it several years ago.

Joel P

Would strongly second the original 1965 The Flight of the Phoenix. I don't know that I've seen anyone else react to that one, even though it's a classic. Probably my favorite James Stewart film after It's A Wonderful Life and Rear Window.

Joel P

Alive (1993) starring Ethan Hawke, is a true story "...After their flight crashes into the Andes mountain range, a Uruguayan rugby team must undertake desperate measures in order to survive..." The book on it is also excellent.

The Grey... AKA Surrounded by Wolves! 😄 Very intense journey made all the more so by those tremendously daunting sounds and that soundtrack. Excellent. Other survival type movies to watch: - All Is Lost (2013) and The Way Back (2010) as mentioned here already - The Revenant (2015) - Rescue Dawn (2006) - 127 Hours (2010) be forewarned if you are at all squeamish about amputation scenes! Although not strictly “survival” films, you could try: - The Impossible (2012) - Life of Pi (2012) - Lone Survivor (2013) Of course, there’s always the stand-by classics like The Flight of the Phoenix (1965)

One of the best reviews of this I saw was a joke tweet that described it as 'A movie in which a pack of wolves tries to survive Liam Neeson'

Since i've been watching reactions i've been waiting for someone to watch this and i'm glad you're the first! I love movies like this that have a certain atmosphere and you can space out a bit, this is why there are nights when i just like to lie on the couch in the dark listening to the soundtrack!

Stuart Biegala

One great movie on "survival" that hasnt gotten many reactions - Ravenous (with Guy Pearce). Although perhaps you might want to save this for Halloween '25. Not super scary, but not your every day movie either.

Nate Gavin

This is true. And it is in the same theme of 2 word titles of movies like The Edge and The Grey. The Frig?

Mastervodo

The Way Back with Ed Harris is a good survival movie too.

Noremac

If you want to go even bleaker try The Road. Hahaha.

Noremac

Intense movie. Soundtrack is really haunting.

Mastervodo

+1 for 'All Is Lost'.

Jason Scade

I love Joe Carnahan films. He’s a good dude too. You gotta do Smokin’ Aces. Wild ride with an insane cast. The wildest Chris Pine performance of his entire career.

djKENTO

Haven't seen this before so I'm looking forward to checking it out with your reaction, for another survival film I recommend "All Is Lost" 2013 thanks Jen 😊
