Sicario (2015) Full Length Reaction

This one was intense. Some stellar acting, great music, some cool shots and a pretty disturbing story. Benicio really stands out in everything he's in doesn't he? What else has he done that we should watch?

Sorry this one is late! If you can see the rash on my neck-- I had an allergic reaction over the weekend but feeling better now!

To answer your question of how they shot at the border, that's the subject of one of my YT favourites - you know how people say CGI is bad/overused? Sicario is absolutely lousy with it - but it's done right with care and attention to detail (fairly short video and it'll probably blow your mind) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v69uezH9XDU

The movie fools you to think that Kate (Blunt) is the lead character, but the lead character is Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro) imo. A good movie. Sad but stunning. Thanks for reacting to this movie. I do have a hard time watching that scene at the dinner table in the end. I like Josh Brolin. I am an Emily Blunt fan. Her performance here, as was expected, did not disappoint. Also, liked her in The English (2022) miniseries, which is a superb mix of beauty and rough. Lastly, a bold statement, this may be my favorite performance by Benicio Del Toro. 10/10.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas! A film by Terry Gilliam, one of the Monty Python members. Its one of my faves!

That shot with the silhouettes in the sunset is so iconic, they are literally descending into darkness

From Canadian born director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune) and writer Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Wind River, Hell or High Water), 'Sicario'. You should check out Benicio Del Toro in Traffic, 21 Grams and Che Part 1 & 2.

Great reactions here for this intense film. Thought you might lose it at the dining room scene, but you held it together pretty well. This was another excellent film from Denis Villeneuve. You’ve already seen several from this now famous French Canadian director - Dune, Part 1 (also did Dune, Part 2), Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival. Now you should see one of his earlier films from your request site - Prisoners (2013). Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal together. 😃 Some good Benicio del Toro movies have already been listed, so I’ll just add couple more - The Hunted (2003) with Tommy Lee Jones and The Wolfman (2010). Other good crime movies from way back you might enjoy: - Thief (1981) - To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) - Manhunter (1986)

Major Peril

He was awesome in that too! 👍

I don't think he ever edited it for yt, but Paul of Rideout Reviews is the only person I know of. He isn't posting anymore now though.

Daryl

Yeah I don't think i've ever come across a reaction to it.

Patrick

A great film. I've only seen one reaction to it. Although I haven't looked for more edited ones tbh.

Daryl

I've got a UTI, my piss smells like a sewer. Anyway...

Witchfinder General

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas I cannot as a Christian man advocate you get drunk & stoned for the reaction...

Witchfinder General

Ohh! Way of the Gun! That's my Benicio pick. A film which I think is pretty underrated and not that many people have seen(think since I added it to the request site it's only had about 7 or 8 votes). Great cast too, with Juliette Lewis, Ryan Phillippe and James Caan.

Patrick

I was going to say Sin City, but Jen has already seen that one! Going to go back and watch that one with her today.

Mastervodo

Hell or High Water is so good.

David Murray

The Godfather Part II is a great crime movie.

David Murray

Benecio has come a long way since being a Bond villain henchman in Licence to Kill 😃

Julian San

One of my favorite movies.

Great to see you are doing better! I do like this movie but for sure.... intense!!!! I hope someday you watch the sequel too. I don't know many Benicio movies but for crime movies..... it is tough to find one you haven't already seen but.... Road To Perdition I think you'd like. Period piece (1920s) starring Tom Hanks with a great soundtrack that is in my personal playlist. Also, L.A. Confidential, In Bruges, Lucky Number Slevin, or Payback (Mel Gibson).

Not seen this movie but that thumbnail 🙂 tense about sums it up , this should be great 🔥 glad you're feeling better Jen I hope the rash didn't drive you bonkers itchy wise 🫂

Ian

Been looking forward to this reaction all week. Excellent film, one of the best of the past 10 years. Del Toro's character in this reminds me of Bardem's Chigurh from No Country for Old Men in how intense both performances are. By the way, I didn't read the Patreon description until after I watched your reaction. I didn't even notice the rash!

Jen, Del Toro won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2000 for the movie Traffic (worth a watch) and has been nominated two other times. If you want to continue Alejandro’s story, the sequel to Sicario is also quite good though unfortunately director Denis Villenueve (Arrival, Dune, BladeRunner 2049) was unable to return due to his schedule. But I would love to see your reaction. Other Del Toro acting masterclasses are in the movies 21 Grams and Thing We Lost in the Fire; both are heavy films though so not something you pop on to enjoy a sunny afternoon.🙂 And I forget to say this but I truly enjoy your appreciation and attention to film scores. I find it so essential to setting tone and atmosphere and when a film does it well, it elevates the whole production immensely. Two of my favorite scores were The Piano and Never Let Me Go. Well worth listening to (and the films are excellent but from the indie film scene so I doubt they’d be good for algorithms and such).

Superb reaction. Great, tense action/drama/thriller. Even though it's grim viewing, the horrific violence used by Mexican crime organizations was heavily toned down for this film. I enjoyed the sequel also - Sicario: Day of the Solado (2018). There is a 3rd one in the pipeline for 2025 (maybe), Christopher McQuarrie (Mission Impossible 5 to 8) is confirmed to be involved with. Emily Blunt is quite the looker. She's married to John Krasinski, gorgeous couple. The Angel of Verdun and Jack Ryan together. What a power couple! 'Narcos' (2015) is a similarly themed tv series, it's highly recommended. US Gov vs. Cartels. 56:18-ish The password should have been "Idiot!" Sicario Soundtrack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c2TW-g28Jw&list=PLqnnuEVGcRQz2nDKqkIp9QuBieyRRn0vD Benicio Del Toro's highest rated on Rotten Toms. Though he is only a very minor role in some of them (Star Wars). https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/benicio-del-toros-10-best-movies/ www.jenmurrayxo.com

Sorry to hear of an allergic reaction. Glad you're getting over it. Rash not visible. , you look gorgeous, as always.

Alway excited for a Villeneuve film, thanks Jen

Matt

You should finish the "Frontier Trilogy" now (Sicario, Wind River and Hell Or High Water). All written by Taylor Sheridan.

Chris Shine

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Johnny Depp with Benicio Del Toro, you can't go wrong.

daniel j brooks

Glad to hear you are feeling better!! For MORE Del Toro check out Fear and Loathing in las Vegas (don't worry, it's not a horror movie 😝) or The Hunted!!
