πŸ“… This Week Nov 11-17 2024

This week we have a couple more Seins, the second LOTR Extended Edition, 2 more Treks and Sicario, which I've been really wanting to see and I've been told I need to watch before it gets spoiled!

It just occurred to me that Christmas is in 6 weeks!? What the frig! Man time flies when you're having fun watching great movies and shows :)

I'm trying to brainstorm some holiday movies we can watch when it gets to be that time (after US Thanksgiving). Do you guys have any suggestions? I've still never seen It's a Wonderful Life so that's probably a must-see!

THANK YOU for being here! I'm having such a blast watching with you and I hope you are too β™‘β™‘β™‘

Hope everyone has a great week! β™‘β™‘β™‘

xoxo

*Regarding Email Notifications: I know it can be annoying to be emailed every single time I post something. You can change your email notifications on the left hand panel in 'Settings' under 'Email Notifications' (desktop)

*Regarding Name in Credits: If you're on a credits tier it can take up to a week to see your name in the credits (though usually within a few days). This is because I sometimes work ahead to get videos ready to post before they go live. If you do not see your name after 1 week please message me and I will make sure to add it. Credits will be listed as your name shows on Patreon. If you don't want your name in credits please message me and I'll remove you from list.

*Spoilers: PLEASE no spoilers in comments or in direct messages to me. No "hints" or trying to lead me in the right direction or asking if I want to know something. The point of these reactions is for me to discover things as I go and to be surprised. Thank you, I appreciate it!

*Replies to Messages/Comments: Across all platforms I now get hundreds of comments and messages every single day. I do my best to return messages but please do not be offended if I do not reply or if replies take a while. Many larger channels hire people to help them answer messages or reply to comments. I read all comments and messages myself, even if I don't have time to reply. If you leave a comment or message please know I received it and I appreciate it.

Traffic with Michael Douglass is the film that made him a Benicio a star and it's a great movie as well.

Lana Gorgeous

It'll be here before too long, I'm sure. πŸ‘ I'm bursting for series 3 myself. It is outstanding! πŸ€£πŸ’œ https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1181372857985552384/1299397653016215695/IMG_20241025_133931.jpg?ex=673f54de&is=673e035e&hm=cd45dfa1f92bf8234684e53dd03d1f51ec62780754e2ef0e4be5d956f7b4bb03&

Jason Scade

For clarity's sake, we are talking about It's a Wonderful Life, right?

mikethemotormouth

Please please watch the black and white version not the colorized one first. I was in my mid early twenties when I first saw it's a wonderful life completely... I actually saw the colorized version of the film and was completely blown away the whole story everything I thought it was fabulous I really couldn't believe I had never seen it before then two days later the black and white version was shown and I watched that and was completely blown away it was so much better and I couldn't believe how it could get much better what a great film I can't wait to watch it with you.

Dave K

Bad Santa. It's absolutely hilarious. Also, if you want a Kubrick film that takes place during the Christmas season, Eyes Wide Shut could be an option. That one is not very cheery though.

Amarant Coral

Christmas with the Kranks is wonderful and funny!

Chuck Jacobson

Precisely. She did not disappoint during the "Is it the Frank or the beans" scene in Something About Mary, she did not disappoint with the Lust murder in Se7en

mikethemotormouth

"The Holdovers" 2023 is my Christmas movie recommendation

Matt

Really looking forward to Sicario

Matt

Okay thanks. So you anticipate Jen's reaction (look on her face) to a particular scene in the movie to be a landmark moment. That sounds great and perfect for a YT video.

Clay F

I'm sorry, I'd thought it was clear I was talking about the look of Jen's reaction during the sequence. And not impossible to skip the sequence just not worth doing so because I anticipate Jen's reaction to be a landmark moment

mikethemotormouth

I am not sure that I understand your reply. When you say "her" face, are you referring to Jen's face or to the face of a character in the movie? Also, why is it impossible to blur, abbreviate, or skip a sequence in the YT edit?

Clay F

Agree to disagree. Her face during the sequence in question...it's moments like that that are the reason I'm here

mikethemotormouth

Yes, definitely watch It's a Wonderful Life. It's a classic for a reason. My favorite Christmas movie.

Joel P

You have legitimate concern about EWS but a YT edit would be fine. Further, blurred images are acceptable and expected. Also, no real need for the full 5 minute chunk you describe imo.

Clay F

For xmas I suggest a french movie called "8 Femmes" (2002) director is François Ozon. I don't think you've seen anything like it.

RSK1995

Hi Jen fyi the movie "it's wonderful life" exits both in b&w and color.

RSK1995

Seconding Edward Scissorhands and EWS. Though EWS comes with a "but" that is heavy editing will be necessary. Like I can see there being a 5 minute chunk in the YT edit that is mostly just close up on Jen facecam against a blurred background

mikethemotormouth

It's kinda both to me and can be seen during either or both holidays

mikethemotormouth

Good recommendations, mike! I haven't seen Trapped in Paradise since probably '95, underrated in general me thinks. And filmed in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Bad Santa and Elf are new-ish classics too. Haven't seen Krampus or THH myself.

Ian Hunter (NewbieInOttawa)

What a freaking awesome week. Yes always to Seinfeld and TNG. I love Sicario (2015) (my favorite Benicio del Toro performance and that's saying a lot). I absolutely love Two Towers extended edition (I saw the theatrical cut in the theater when released and scenes were stunning on the big screen). Movies to consider for the holiday season: Elf (2003) You’ve Got Mail (1998) The Apartment (1960) [AFI Top 100] About a Boy (2002) Edward Scissorhands (1990) While You Were Sleeping (1995) How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1967) A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011) Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Clay F

+1 for The Holdovers (2023), Bad Santa (2003), and The Family Man (2000)

Clay F

And S9E8 The Betrayal is like the Memento of Seinfeld lol. IYKYK

mikethemotormouth

I think it's more a Christmas movie

Witchfinder General

Christmas Suggestions: The Holdovers (2023) (7.9 on IMDB) Bad Santa (2003) (7.0 on IMDB) Scrooged (1988) (6.9 on IMDB) The Family Man (2000) (6.8 on IMDB) Christmas Adjacent: Frozen River (2008) (7.1 on IMDB) Lonesome Jim (2005) (6.5 on IMDB)

Witchfinder General

'The Keys' is like the Lord of the Rings of Seinfeld. An epic trilogy to kick off the epic 4th season

Witchfinder General

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang counts, I say

Reece Potter

Scrooged (1988) with Bill Murray is a fun Christmas movie. Dir by Richard Donner.

Jason Scade

Is The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) a halloween or christmas movie? It's some of Danny Elfmans best work and he also does the voice for the main character. Whatever you do, stay away from The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). It contains madness in many small packages.

Scaredy-cat

Looks like another great EXTENDED week! 😁 You should definitely see Scrooged (1988) with Bill Murray and Elf (2003) with Will Ferrell for Christmas season. You'll have a JOLLY good time.

Major Peril

Wow, TNG S6 incoming. Time really flies. Some Christmas movie suggestions: 8-BIT CHRISTMAS (2021) - an 80s childhood adventure, watched it last year and found it quite nostalgic and overall entertaining. THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER (1940) - also watched it last year for the first time and really enjoyed it, large part due to my surprise it is based on a Hungarian stage play. I never knew that. An additional suggestion, which is not really Christmas movie, but Christmas-adjacent: KISS KISS, BANG BANG (2005) - a very underrated gem with RDJ and Val Kilmer, written and directed by Shane Black

GÑbor Árki

Yes, Wonderful Life is a must see. Also recommending Trapped in Paradise(1994), Bad Santa(2003), Krampus(2015), The Hebrew Hammer(2003), and Elf(2003)

mikethemotormouth

Definitely watch IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. It's so good, as is James Stewart. Being a fan of PATRICK Stewart, A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1999), where he plays Scrooge. Also, according to your Movie Requests page, you haven't seen A CHRISTMAS STORY. Classic. As for a more modern, not for kids - but funny as hell movie, BAD SANTA.

Zapp Rowsdower

For Xmas movies: β€œKlaus” (animated, so good),

Jackson Bross

Friday After Next (although that's the THIRD one the Friday series) it's been a recent Christmas classic for me! Also, Jingle All the Way with AHNOLD! 🀣

Carlos Perez

"Time flies when you're having fun watching great movies and shows" I wouldn't know. :-P :-P Prompted by your "bee's knees" in the Up reaction, I once again recommend Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995). "If I may say so, you are most definitely the bee's knees."

Happy Hanukkah

πŸŽ…πŸ»The raunchy "Bad Santa" 1 & 2 will tickle your funny bones and bring on the Xmas cheer!

Romero

Bad Santa and A Christmas Story are my votes for holiday movies.

Budsfan67

Instead of movies, how about Christmas episodes of TV shows?

Brian Leonard

Fab line-up. Sicario is excellent. The Two Towers. β™₯

Jason Scade

THIS. Nobody ever does, and it makes me crazy. Sicario 2 isn't the sequel to Sicario, those movies are - though you've reversed the order HoHW first, then Wind River - not that it really matters too much, but by release order... Sic2 is the movie he was essentially forced to make even though he didn't plan to, and it sets up a movie that I think we all know is never going to happen.

Martin Nicholls

Wind River is so good

Simon Haynes

Are you still going to finish the IT Crowd?

Jabin (Aelic)

Sicario πŸ™Œ Now you HAVE to do "Wind River" and "Hell Or High Water" to complete The Frontier Trilogy

Chris Shine

About to hit the best of Seinfeld.
