Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring EXTENDED (2001) Full Length Reaction

Did you notice that the dwarf was Indy's Egyptian friend in Raiders of the Lost Arc?

Greg in East TN

You really need to watch the Rings of Power on Amazon Prime. It explains what happens before the elves came to middle earth. You will understand this movie better if you do.

Greg in East TN

The more i watch of this, I would love to see a Monty Python version. Like when Gandalf was reading the book, it could have said Aaaarrrrggggghhh. And when they ran to the bridge, he should have said, "Run away! Run away!"

Greg in East TN

Do you stream or watch the DVD for these full reactions? I'm streaming mine and I have to stop every few minutes and let you catch up. Maybe you could say a little more so I will know where you're at. I know you probably have to blur the movie, but I can't tell by that where you're at in the movie. I depend on what you say. Thank you very much. Greg

I'm deaf myself. This video doesn't have closed caption?

Oats

30 minutes in... She asks... "How powerful is Gandalf." Appropriate answer... Even Gandalf doesn't know.

Carlos Stevens

heh... at 19 minutes you ask... "How old is Gandalf." Since you haven't watched all the movies yet... Do you really want to know the answer to that question???

Carlos Stevens

Ok Jen... as a new subscriber, I have to ask... Have you ever played Dungeons And Dragons... And more importantly...If you did, what was the class of your first character??? And if you play DnD... Extended Version... what is your favorite character to play? (surely you know that Dungeons and Dragons was based mostly on Lord Of The Rings)

Carlos Stevens

Frig You Balrog!

Mastervodo

what makes this the greatest trilogy is that if was all filmed at once. so each movie is a cliff hanger, but the story is a whole

Michael

Am i crazy or is there a noise when you are not talking? Do i have my laptop volumn to loud

Michael

I remember when I first saw this in theater a lot of the crowd were complaining that was a horrible ending. us nerds had to explain this was a tome separated into 3 books.

zynjams

Gandalf is essentially an angelic being of immense power; however, he is forbidden from displaying it on Middle Earth. Hence why we see him more as a guide than a wizard. To put it in Star Trek vernacular, he abides by a prime directive.

Michael Tuffin

I recently decided to read the books again, since it had been so long since I had read them. Some interesting differences (mostly minor, but interesting): It was Aragorn who wanted to take the mountain pass. It was Gandalf who wanted to go through Moria. He had passed through it a very long time ago, but since he entered the other side and came out this side, he wasn't sure of how to use the entrance. Also, Frodo didn't suggest that it was a riddle. Gandalf came up with it on his own. Pippin didn't throw the stone into the lake by the entrance to Moria. That was actually Boromir. The birthday party at the beginning was actually a double birthday party. Bilbo turned 111, but Frodo turned 33 (which was a significant age for Hobbits). To signify that further, there was a special "smaller" celebration that had 144 guests (111+33). Merry and Pippen joining them leaving The Shire wasn't accidental. Also, they were on very good terms with Farmer Maggot (although Frodo was afraid of him because he used to steal stuff from the farmer when he was a kid and lived near there). The time between the Birthday Party and Frodo leaving for Brie was actually 17 years. Yes, Frodo is supposed to be 50 when he goes on this adventure (which is, IIRC, about the same age Bilbo was when he went on his adventure in "The Hobbit." ) When Gandalf is pondering the ring near the beginning and says "riddles in the dark" that is actually a reference to a retcon that JRR Tolkien did in The Hobbit. The story of what happens between Bilbo and Gollum in the first edition of the book was different (and more friendly) than what happened in later editions. In the first edition, Gollum lost graciously and was upset that he couldn't find the ring to give Bilbo. At that time, it was just going to be a regular magic ring. When Tolkien started writing Lord of the Rings, he changed the nature of the ring, so he had to make the story darker. He explained it in the book by having Bilbo lie to his friends about what happened (the story he told was the nicer one, from the first edition of the book).

was just about to watch and noticed that aswell, will have to keep the volume a bit lower i guess :)

Thx a lot!👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 Strange noises through your mic though. Do you have a waterfall in your living room? 😉🤷🏼‍♂️

You need to be at least 5'5" to be an Elf

I could tell you didn't remember much. I was the same way in not remembering much when I rewatched the trilogy years later. Also, I went from liking the trilogy to loving the trilogy. I strongly prefer the extended cuts, which fly by. I like the way you categorized the music into themes. Made sense. The Fellowship of the Ring is excellent. The Two Towers and The Return of the King are even better. I read The Hobbit (book) in about 1979 when I was in high school. I got the Lord of the Rings books in the 1980s when I was in college but never read them.

As long as you've got your 'elf. 👍

Jen could be an Elf.

RIP Tony Todd.

That's so cool. 😎

Spectacularly fab reaction to The Team-up of the Ring! Loved it. 💜⚔ This will do well on YouTube. Can't wait for TTT. You asked why was there an Elvish gate guarding a dwarf mine/city.. I think Elves and Dwarves had some kind of friendship at sometime in Middle Earth history. I found a more detailed answer here, it is very old Middle Earth history so there are no spoilers at all for the next two LOTR movies you've to watch. https://gamerant.com/lotr-elvish-writing-dwarven-door-moria-explained/ You asked what's the difference between theatrical and extended versions. This Screen Rant story is a quick read and briefly details them. https://screenrant.com/lord-of-the-rings-fellowship-extended-edition-all-changes/ Interesting thing I didn't find out for years is that the wizards in the story aren't actually human/men, they're male but are beings called Maiar (lesser angels). 30:10-ish. That was no fly terrorizing you. That was a spy sent by Saruman. 47:40-ish Saruman scolding Gandalf for smoking Hobbit-weed. "Your love of the halfling's weed has clearly slowed your mind." 😂 58:35 That drunken villager guy who is on-screen for 2 secs is LOTR director Peter Jackson. Also, three of his children were among the hobbit children near the beginning of the film. 1:22:50 When Arwen uses magic that she casts at the river against the ring wraiths, she refers to the Misty Mountain's waters. This Led Zeppelin song also references Tolkien's Middle Earth / characters. It's superb. Led Zeppelin - Ramble on (with lyrics) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7fdZnuCY6A 3:08:24 Boromir redeeming himself. ❤ 3:11:50 Boromir and Aragorn's final words with each other. :') ❤ Aragorn-- I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you, I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail. Boromir-- Our people... Our people. I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king. Some further viewing suggestions featuring LOTR cast members; From Hell (2001) Based on famous graphic novel, horror/mystery/Jack the Ripper. Stars Bilbo actor Ian Holm, among others. Apt Pupil (1998) Stephen King psy horror. USA high school student discovers his elderly neighbor is a notorious wanted WWII war criminal. Stars Ian McKellan. Game of Thrones (Political power plays / intrigue / treachery and swords 'n' sorcery) Vast cast, includes Sean Bean. The Missing (2003) Western / drama. Cate Blanchett. From dir of Apollo 13. Oo yay! So.. my name is in the credits of these movies! I was a huge fan of the books in High School when these were being made. And if you were a Charter Member in the Lord of the Rings Fan Club back then, you got your name in the credits of the DVD's! I can't even remember what else I got besides that. I think maybe a magazine every few months and some trinkets? 🤔

Lady Beyond The Wall

Nothing like an extended adventure epic on a Saturday afternoon! Absolutely loved it. Like others have said, I should probably re-watch these extended versions more often. One thing I do remember about seeing this for the first time was how hard I crushed on Liv Tyler as Arwen. What a beautiful character she portrayed and when she started whispering Elvish... that just sent me over the top. 😳 Her stand at the river was also epic. "If you want him, come and CLAIM HIM!".

Major Peril

Really enjoyed this Jen at the beginning I was thinking I hope Jen has a few snacks cuz this is super long BUT! It flew by . Everything about this trilogy is of epic proportions, the music , the visuals everything 🔥 I've said it many times you have such a beautiful caring heart Jen the final moments of boramir I could see hit you right in the feels , me too 🫂 . Also his shield and the horn of Gondor look amazing , if I were Sean bean I'd have kept them for myself 🙂 . I don't know if you've read the books or not Jen but they are incredible I can't recommend them highly enough 👍 this was wonderful can't wait for the two towers now cheers Jen you're the best 🔥💙

Ian

Wow, just wow. I usually watch the extended trilogy at least once a year but I've been slack this year, so this is wonderful!

'Candyman' actor Tony Todd died today aged 69. In his memory let's get Candyman (1992) off the 'never watch' list. The Candyman cannot hurt you now...

Ok, thanks for the heads up, saves me a lot of time

Don't mind my avatar, I am really Sauron's good twin brother. Please watch the first portion of the end credits of Return of the King as no other reactor I have watched did. Aside from a great song the early portion of these end credits features great artwork worth reacting to. Also please watch The Hobbit later. Yes opinions are divided but I personally love them and have grown fonder of them over the years. Most of the criticisms are actually true but the movies are still solid despite that. I am currently listening to an audiobook about the making of the LOTR and the Hobbit, here are some interesting tidbits I have come across so far: Tolkien didn't want the title of book 3 to be Return of the King as he correctly felt it was a spoiler, his choice was War of the Ring but the publisher or editor overrode him. New Line Cinema took a major risk making all three movies at the same time, if the first had failed the studio would have probably folded. And these weren't just your average movies as each one was an epic. Christopher Lee, who played Saruman, had actually met Tolkien in a pub years earlier. While the casting in LOTR ended up being perfect it almost wasn't: The studio's first choice for Gandalf was Sean Connery and they made him a staggering offer including a percentage of the gross or profit of the trilogy. If he had taken the role he would have made over 400 million dollars but didn't because he didn't "understand" it. Even getting Ian Mckellen as Gandalf almost never happened as he was locked into a contract playing Magneto in the first X-Men movie. Only the promise by that director that he would be available by early 2000 allowed him to get the role. Viggo Mortensen was not the first choice for Aragorn, another actor was hired but only days before his first scene was to be filmed it was agreed that he was not right for the role. A frantic search ensued to recast the role with little time to spare. Russell Crowe was considered but he declined because he had just finished Gladiator and didn't want to do another sword movie.

Atomic spolier in the intro ! I've not seen these films before !! Just kidding 😉

We cannot be friends.

I can barely wait to see you do this. Will have to leave it till the weekend though, very delighted you loved it so much! :D

Jason Scade

Thank you Jen! I haven't seen The Fellowship without skipping around since I saw it in the theatres. That was amazing! Can't wait for my favorite The Two Towers!! :)

Jason K

LOTR is my favorite movie of all time. And I consider the 3 Extended Edition movies together to be all ONE movie! I read The Hobbit when I was in 6th Grade. I read LOTR when I was in 7th. I've read the Silmirilion several times starting in high school. And I've watched these movies dozens of times over the years, including twice back to back in theaters. I'm a HUGE fan. Simone and George from Cinebinge re-watch these movies together annually, and have done so before they even had a channel! I love everything about these EPIC Masterpieces. I am so glad you are re-watching this Jen, especially if you've forgotten so much, since it would be like experiencing them again for the first time! I'm envious!

Mastervodo

Just my two cents: If you loved these movies, don't watch the Rings of Power.

Mastervodo

I LOVE that you are going to watch the extended edition for all 3 !!!

Ciarra Jade

your welcome

scott osborne

Ironically, I thought music-wise, this extended edition is kinda the worst of the bunch (still not bad by any means). Just a lot of chopping, the pacing imho kind of stomped on its expressiveness a little bit. I mean, that's such a nitpick, but still... always feels slightly off to me in parts. Arwen + Aragorn scenes in particular, I believe.

W T

The moment you said you didn't remember the music, i realized 'ok, if JEN of all people doesn't remember the greatest soundtrack in cinema history this is essentially a first time viewing.' I wasn't surprised at all when you said about an hour later how little you remembered.

Kane

Twice, sometimes three times a year, I watch these, and always, always an incredible treat. I'm glad you are going back to Middle Earth. Should think about watching the tv series, I've never seen those.

JPDotCom23

I love these movies so very much, thanks Jen I needed this!! So hyped. These are my comfort movies my whole life long and they get even more comforting the more stressed I might be and the more I age. Thank you

Amelia

I had bought the extended trilogy for my ex-wife, because she read the books. But neither of us had seen any of the movies. One weekend after I got them for her, I was home alone on a Saturday and spent the whole day watching all three movies. It was a long day, but relaxing and fun.

Vwlss Nvwls

me too, planning on going back to back.

zynjams
