Conan the Barbarian (1982) Full Length Reaction

Arnie's back and this time he's got a sword! This is probably the most fantasy Arnie movie I've seen yet. Great music, big muscles, Darth villain, there was a lot going on in this movie! Anyone interested in Conan the Destroyer?

Conan the Barbarian (1982) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Conan kills giant snake.. "Ewwww! It's so meaty." 😅

Jason Scade

+1 for Destroyer!

Mastervodo

Apparently, there are different cuts of this, so I'm not sure which one you have. The theatrical is 126 minutes but some home video, dvd and blu ray releases are at other lengths, ranging from 115 minutes to 131 minutes. If you're streaming it on a place like Amazon Prime, it should be the theatrical cut, but just a heads up for those who want to sync their copy.

There's a commercial around here for a place called Four Winds Casino. Every time - every... time... that it comes on, I hear Conan in my head, saying "Ha. Crom laughs at your four winds"

Disappointed that nobody commented that this is not based upon a comic. Conan is based upon a series of short stories and novels started in the 1930's by Robert E. Howard. Technically predates comics as we know them, certainly as Marvel and DC evolved comics later on in the 40's. Marvel picked up the Conan character and ran some comics about him later on in the 70's.

"This music - HOLY SHIT!" This is why I subscribe :)

Allen Bond

Well... Red Sonja is sort of an "unofficial" Conan movie :) (character licensing rights and all)

Bryan Tuck

There were so many films in the 80s that were either trying to copy this story or used it as inspiration. Some are just plain bad and others are quite enjoyable. You should definitely watch Destroyer and Red Sonja! Less violence so you can have more of a good time with the cheese lol

Wade Wallenstein

I would recommend the sequel and Red Sonja. Sure they’re not as good but I think you’d love the music just the same. I especially love Red Sonja’s music, scored by Ennio Morricone!

Julian San

Conan!!.."What is best in life?" :D

Brettley67

The way Jen said FANTASTIC reminded me of the MAD TV sketch: Terminator 2: The Super FANTASTIC Musical with Arnold, Rebecca Romijn and Jason Alexander🤣🤣

Carlos Perez

As much as I love this movie - Conan the Destroyer and the often-mentioned Red Sonia (which isn't a Conan movie) aren't there in terms of quality, pacing, and importance.

Grga Pitic

Conan the Destroyer and then Red Sonja are the other 2 conan movies. They did a re-make of this movie with Jason Momoa that was pretty good.

Jayson Phillips

The creator of Conan, Robert E Howard, wasn't writing comics. He created this character in the 1930's and published his stories in pulp magazines. He's sort of a tragic figure. I worked post production years ago on a biographical movie starring Vincent D'Onofrio as Howard, and Rene Zellweger. It's a small independent movie before Rene's breakout role in Jerry Maguire. It might be worth it to check it out if someone wants to learn more about him.

Geoff S.

"Fire of her loins'" Conan has it all, swords, sorcery, music, warriors, ladies.....even some mythology thrown in. A real mindblower for a 12 year old I can tell you!

Anthony Peterson

My wife, and I just got the 4K Blu-ray of this a few weeks back, super excited to rewatch!

Matt Adams

It's been years since I've watch this film. Now I get to watch it with my favorite reaction specialist. Were you a barbarian you would wield a mighty club for mighty head clunkies

Ronny Boss

A little over 20 years ago, a good friend returned from LA having hung out with Basil Poledouris in his studio. Yep: jealous!

David Olden

What is best in life? A full length movie reaction, scored by Basil Poledouris!

Jack O

Destroyer is a little bit more PG-13 than this one, and like others have said - a lot more cheese, but I think it's the good kind of cheese. Still very entertaining, even just from Arnie + the art design is still really cool - and of course, Basil Poledouris returns with another banging score :) Destroyer was the first sequel movie that Arnie ever did, but because it didn't really perform so well he famously refused to do any other sequels (hence the "No chance" at the end of Commando)... at least until Terminator 2 came along. Conan was actually a series of short stories long before it was a comic - written back in the 1930s by a troubled man named Robert E Howard. I'd recommend reading them for sure, they aren't very long. The first one actually starts near the end of Conan's tale, when he's already a king - it's called the Phoenix in the Sword and it has some awesome writing in it. Howard's Conan has a quite different backstory to Arnie's one, but this movie still captures the atmosphere of the world, I think.

Also one of my favourite scores

Stuart Biegala

Conan The Destroyer tends to be mocked and unliked by most, but I think it's decently fun. Perhaps not for the right reasons, with it being extra cheesy, but even if it's kinda bad, it's still fun.

Guy Gordon

I figured out a new code name for Jen after this reaction. Jen The Head Clonker.

Vwlss Nvwls

One of my fave Arnold movies, The Terminator of course made him a superstar but this film made him a name and got him noticed!

Stuart Biegala

When this released on video, I watched it with my father who is a big fan of body building. The whole starting battle scene he kept pointing out other body builders and talking about them. :D

Vwlss Nvwls

This movie is in my top 5 all time favorite movies. I saw it at the drive-in when it released. I was only 12, but my mother and I loved it, and stayed thru the second feature to watch it again. I have literally watched this movie over 100 times since then, and have listened to the awesome soundtrack possibly twice as much. I do not care for the director cut or the sequels or remake, but I never get tired of this one. So much epicness, and epic quotable lines. Max Von Sydow (RIP) has my favorite lines of the whole movie. His speech about his love for his daughter is so epically performed.

Vwlss Nvwls

Please watch Destroyer. It's so bad, but it's so FUN!! Cheesy as hell, but you've said you like cheesy.

Zachary Carter

Arnold in his physical prime🌹This is what fantasy adventure movies used to be..love the soundtrack! 🎶🎻

Celeste McAllister

I've somehow never seen Conan before so i'm looking forward to seeing this.

Patrick

I know what I'm watching tonight! Conan the Destroyer is alright but doesn't quite live up to the sequel but it's worth a look.

Geoff S.

I played in orchestra up to College! :)

Jen M

To all of Jen’s fans a quick question: Is Jen a professional musician in an orchestra? I’ve been watching her STNG and a bunch of movie reactions and she seems to know so much about orchestra and music in general. It’s a great detail that other reactors just don’t have. As for this movie I love it and can’t wait to watch her reaction. I grew up with it and I’m sure it had an influence on my imagination and fantasy film in general.

PIG

Awesome Jen awesome one last reaction before I head out the country 🙌 definitely yes to Conan the destroyer ( well as you know my No1 rule if Jen asks a question the answer is yes ) 😀 I'm sure going to miss watching you next week so will treasure every moment of this reaction 🫶

Ian

Well, yes, you GOTTA do Conan the Destroyer and Red Sonja!! 🤓, can't wait to watch this! To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women! (All in perfect Arnie accent) 🤣🤣
