I forgot to mention that there is another crew member in this movie. The communications officer on the Excelsior who asks "Do we report this sir?" was Commander Janice Rand (played by Grace Lee Whitney. In the original series, she played "Yeoman Rand" the blond woman who would provide stuff for Kirk to review and who brought meals to his quarters. She appeared in 8 episodes of the original series.
