2023-05-13 16:36:41 +0000 UTCYou mentioned Leslie Nielsen being in Airplane, but he was also in another movie you watched: He was the ship's captain in The Poseidon Adventure. Before Airplane he was considered a strictly dramatic actor, which is how he got cast in Airplane. They wanted serious actors to give the lines with straight faces, not comic actors who might ham it up delivering the lines. For Baseball movies, try "A League of Their Own" and "Major League". Also, since you mentioned liking Weird Al, you have to watch "UHF", which is a Weird Al movie (His only one). Besides the two sequels, you might want to check out the TV series that these movies were based on: Police Squad. It consists of only 6 half hour episodes, so it should be a quick watch. It was cancelled after just 6 shows because the studio execs complained that you had to actually watch the show. Seriously, that was their reason. (Back then most shows would have a first run and a rerun, so packing in a lot of sight gags in the background was considered too much. Nowadays, with streaming and people rewatching things a lot looking for Easter Eggs, that wouldn't be a problem, but back then it wasn't considered good. They did recycle some of the jokes from the series into the movies.
