Dr Strangelove (1964) Full Length Reaction

Wonderful reaction, Jen. To answer your questions: Kubrick is indeed different in every film. Personally, I have seen several good YouTube reactions to 2001, and I’ll bet you would give a good one too. It is a masterpiece, and hugely influential on every science fiction film made afterwards. His most shocking film is probably A Clockwork Orange, but he also did wonderful work with Spartacus and Paths of Glory. Peter Sellers is probably best known as Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther, but his best piece of acting is in the film Being There, which he completed shortly before his death. The general in the war room was played by George C Scott, whose most famous role is General Patton in the film Patton. (He also did what is, in my opinion, the best film Scrooge in the 1984 version of A Christmas Carol.) I saw him on stage in the one-man show, Clarence Darrow for the Defense, and he was terrific.

Barry Lyndon is probably his best - absolutely stunning shots, all look like they come from 18th century paintings. Not many reactions out there, some find it slow, but the story is amazing.

A great Peter Sellers movie is his last Being There and of course the Pink Panther series...but he made a funny one if you like slapstick humor called The Party and a wacky psychedelic flick called The Magic Christian.

Fab reaction, I laughed lots. 💜 😂 Dr. Strangelove was obviously a Nazi scientist - given a pass for war crimes and brought to America after the war under 'Operation Paperclip' (which was a real thing). You watched Kubrick's The Shining on the channel. Peter Seller's is one of the greatest comedy actors of all time and also something of a human chameleon with his wildly varied comedy characters. In the 1950s he was in a radio comedy group called 'The Goon Show', who in turn were a massive influence on Monty Python. His bumbling, incompetent Inspector Clouseau character from the Pink Panther films is a goldmine of comedy. Sellers films I'd recommend are... Panther films; The Pink Panther (1963) A Shot in the Dark (1964) The Return of the Pink Panther (1975) The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) Non Panther; The Party (1968) The Ladykillers (1955)

I would also add Lolita to the list of Kubrick films that would be good to react to. The story in the movie is toned down from that of the novel due to the mores of the time (1962), but it still has a creep factor to it as it is about a middle aged man lusting after a 14 year old girl (one of the things toned down, in the novel the girl is 12). The 1997 version by Adrian Lyne is less censored and truer to the novel, but I didn’t think it was as good as Kubrick’s, nonetheless.

Barry Lyndon is a beautiful slow movie by Kubrick..very few folks have done reactions to it and it's classical soundtrack is amazing.

Great as always, Bright Angel. Catch-22 is one of my favorite books and When I first saw "Catch-22" in 1970, the structure of this film is so modern it could have been made yesterday. Frame for frame, a masterpiece of storytelling unfolds before your eyes; a satire, a comedy, a tragedy: superb and unforgettable. The surreal humor captures the craziness of war in a way - I think - no other movie does. It would be perfect for your channel, and your wit and charm would only make the experience better. Please give it a watch. Like Dr. Strangelove, it's shines a light on the stupidity of war. Thanks to you outstanding crew and producers on the films you put out on YT. The hard work is appreciated.

Regarding "2001 : A Space Odyssey", I think it would be fine for a reaction from you. Yes, there are parts of the movie that are very slow, but this is Kubrick we're talking about. The pacing is deliberate. Now, if you were a reactor that just sat there and stared at the screen, then it might not make for a very interesting reaction. But, you're the kind of person that keeps talking about what they see, asking questions about what you haven't figured out yet, and celebrating when you do figure things out. I think it would be a great reaction, because the movie has a lot to think about and Kubrick does not hold your hand or feed you the story in easy to consume tidbits.

He’s an absolutely brilliant filmmaker though his films may not be for everyone. His films while tackling widely varying subjects and genres, all remain indelibly marked with his style. What genre are his films? They’re Stanley Kubrick films. There’s really no one like him. My favorite Kubrick film is probably Paths of Glory. Despite the name, it’s essentially an anti-war film and brilliantly realized. He certainly grew as a filmmaker as he continued to make more films (like Strangelove). Each presented new problems and opportunities to grow, and he did. For me though Paths of Glory is like hearing that first great album by a band with a long career. I would agree though that 2001: A Space Odyssey is his masterpiece if only because it completely changed the landscape of the culture: the entire look of the advertising, the movies, TV shows all shifted after 2001. It was a seismic cultural shift. Psychedelia had arrived. But it’s also just an incredible experience to watch. But Paths of Glory remains closer to my heart than the formal brilliance of films like 2001 or Barry Lyndon.

Thank you, Jen! Great movie made better by your great reactions! Kubrick: Regarding Kubrick movies, you've already seen, "The Shining." So, I'd like to recommend "2001: A Space Odyssey," "A Clockwork Orange," "Full Metal Jacket," "Eyes Wide Shut," and "Paths of Glory." I would say that all of his movies have a similar attention to detail with the writing, direction, cinematography, and music. These are all very different movies but bear his mark which will become apparent as you watch them. I'd also like to add two oddball movies as well: "Spartacus" and "A.I. Artificial Intelligence." On Spartacus, Kubrick was actually brought in to replace another director and wasn't really happy with the finished product. It was mostly a work-for-hire. And, on A.I., Kubrick had been developing this project for years when he finally concluded that Spielberg (and not he) would be a better director for it. There is a lot more to say here, but I'll save that to prevent spoilers. Peter Sellers: Of course, there is the iconic Pink Panther series (starting with The Pink Panther (1963)), Casino Royale (1967)(Bond satire, must see), Return of the Pink Panther (1975), The Pink Panther Strikes Again(1976), and one of my all-time favorites, Being There (1979).
