Ocean's 13 (2007) Full Length Reaction

Comments

If you've gone this far you might as well wrap it up with Sandra Bullock in Ocean's 8. Just like with any movies you'll have people that like and hate it. I happen to be one that likes and even owns it.

No oceans 8? Its worth a look.

See whether you can have a look at the British TV show Hustle - it's really fun and has a similar style to the Oceans movies.

I can’t think of too many Heist Movies, that develop such meticulous plans as the Ocean Movies. If you want to see a well-planned robbery the 1998 action film Ronin directed by John Frankenheimer could be to your liking. In Ronin, Robert de Niro and Jean Reno hire on as ex-agents for a robbery squad that leads to elaborate car chases across France.

I love the jargon that the guys trow around in these movies. The "Susan B. Anthony" is of course the rigged slot machine bit. Early in the film they are discussing the plot and Saul says he would never subject himself to what this man (the reviewer) was about to experience. Someone says "not even for $10 million?" and Saul replies "Maybe for $11 million," which of course is what the gut wins in the end. When Linus first suggests wearing the fake nose, he calls it "The Brody," after Adrian Brody. The aphrodisiac he uses on Abigail is referred to as a "Gilroy." Gilroy is a rural farming town in the California coast ranges that calls itself "The Garlic Capital of the World." Humorous reference at the end. When Danny is leaving, Rusty ribs him about his weight gain. Clooney, before filming began on this movie, had produced and acted in Syriana, a serious film about geopolitics of oil in the middle east. He played a real CIA employee named Robert Barnes, on whose book the movie was based (Matt Damon was also in this movie). He gained some weight to play Barnes's character. Danny then comes back at Rusty with "why don't you settle down. Have a few kids." Of course at this time Pitt is partnered with Angelina Jolie and they are in the process of adopting several orphans from various countries.

Heat is one of my favorite movies of all time. The use of LA, De Niro and Al Pacino in the dinner, the sound design in the end.... soooo good. Those Guy Richie movies are both amazing!!

MattN

To be fair, the "diamonds guy" did get 11 milion in the end, so I think he forgot about his miserable time at the "Bank" pretty fast. :) Great reaction, keep it up :)

Gotta love heist movies. If you're looking for more, hmmm. I'd recommend Heat (1995) first. It's an LA heist movie with an absolute all star cast (including Al Pachino again) and an absolute banger of a third act. After that you might want to try out another one from Guy Richie (who directed Snatch) called Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998). He also did a 2019 movie called The Gentlemen which is every bit as good as Snatch and Lock Stock. Not really a heist movie though. Also, not to get spoilery, but you'll also see some heisting in some of the future Fast and Furious movies. FF5 is a personal favorite, and very heisty.

One of the cool little "easter egg" bits in this one is the scene where Matt Damon is in London trying to track down information on the Greco. The Ocean's director felt the movie needed something extra after primary shooting had wrapped and Matt Damon had already flown to Europe to work on The Bourne Ultimatum. So the Ocean's guys hired the Bourne crew to film a bit for them and if you watch it closely you'll see that one scene is shot in the Bourne shaky cam style and even Matt Damon's demeanor is a bit more aggressive and Jason Bourne like. Also, the Five Diamond award is an actual thing given out by AAA.

They couldn't fit Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta Jones in the plot without it being too confusing so that's why they said, "Its not their fight." The woman that hands Sponder the phone is in on it, she's one of the first people they mentioned that that they flipped. Livingston wanted to get pulled for Roman but the team didn't know his prints were going to be run, Anyway I really like this one and I am glad you enjoyed it.

I like your excitement throughout this franchise. 😁 With Frank Sinatra's name being mentioned in the beginning of this movie, it made me think, it would great to see you react to the 1960 original "Ocean's 11". Frank Sinatra plays Danny. I've only seen bits and pieces of it on TV but I'm down. And of course you have to see "Ocean's 8", the lady heist movie.
