This one got me in the mood for the holidays! Glad to have seen an 80's classic with John Candy + Steve Martin, very fun to see their chemistry. Are they ever together again in another movie?

Thanks for watching with me!

Planes, Trains + Automobiles (1987) Full Length Reaction

Indeed Uncle Buck is Candy's other beloved film. My guess as to what was in Del's trunk: I think it was the Ark of the Covenant so clearly the original Ten Commandments is in there or perhaps it stored a briefcase that finds its way into Pulp Fiction, or perhaps to answer your question 'What's in the box?' the movie Seven might answer your question, I mean Del does need a reminder of his wife no?

Andrew Roach

Great reaction, Jen! For more John Candy fun may I suggest, "Uncle Buck" (1989) and "Spaceballs" (1987)?

Del had no home, so likely his case was just stuff, including the pillow and his wife's photo. He for sure did not have a body in there. My guess is he had food in it, because it is the only way to explain their last night together with all the drinks and chips, since neither of them had any money.

I often crack my knuckles, neck and back. And yes, it feels good, because it will release a lot of stress and tension in the joints.

Steve Martin has been my hero since I was a little kid listening to his stand up albums, and watching him host SNL in the 70s. I just love how he can make anything funny, and how he can be the straight man to even his own funny man. And John Candy is always a pleasure to watch. In my opinion, his best work is Uncle Buck, because it shows his full range of comedy to serious. RIP John Candy, one of the greats. This movie was an absolute dream for me when I saw it in the theater, and I have watched it about 100 times or more since.

Huh, it never even occurred to me to wonder what was in his chest. He's a traveling salesman. He has to have some place for his inventory and work documents etc.

The shaking bed effect, the most famous brand of which was Magic Fingers, was meant to provide a massage for the tired traveler. As a kid on family road trips every summer, I remember them fondly.

They're both in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, though never in the same scene.

Woohoo!! Just watched this with ya. Unfortunately, yes, this is the only film Steve and John Hughes both said they all got along famously. Steve Martin still says to this day he sheds a tear over John Candy's speech in the hotel saying it was the best heartfelt adlibbed speech to him he had ever witnessed. My MVP award would go to John Candy's character. Despite the nerves he stepped on, this well meaning man god his companion home in time for Thanksgiving. The worst award? The guy who stole all of their money in the first place. I've always just assumed that what's in his big case is stock of shower curtain rings he sells. I rewatch this film every year as a Thanksgiving tradition. "Think the Bears have a good team this year?"
