This is a request from a Top Tier Patron - thank you Bret!

Well this one was tough for me. I think I said "tragic" like 50 times in my outro and that is definitely the word to best describe it for me.

I don't want to give too much away here for those who haven't seen it, but there are complicated themes and situations throughout that definitely made me think. Quite heartbreaking!

Will Smith was great in this but it was Rosario Dawson who shone the brightest for me!

Oh I want to see Bad Boys that looks fun! 👍👍

Jen M

Oh I loved Fresh Prince too, perhaps not in the same way. :) When I was a teen, there was this white van that used to drive around the residential estates providing weekly rentals of movies on VHS tapes. You could get 3 for £5. I'll always remember the guy that drove it recommended • Bad Boys (1995) and I absolutely loved it! Of course I loved Independence Day too. Over the years, some of my personal highlights to varrying degrees have been. •Enemy of the State *** •The Legend of Bagger Vance *** •Ali **** •I Robot **** •Hitch **** •The Pursuit of Happiness **** •Hancock *** •Focus **** •Concussion ***** •Collateral Beauty ***

Daryl

I have mainly know him from comedy/action, not a ton of dramatic stuff. He was one of my very first crushes on Fresh Prince 😆 Loved the comedy action in Independence Day and Men in Black too. I did try to watch I am Legend but I don't think I made it very far. What are your favourite Will Smith movies?

Jen M

Tonights watch... Oh boy does this one break the heart. My third watch I think. A redemptive story of someone taking drastic but possitive steps to make an amends. Trying to return balance to the universe for a tragic mistake. We see a good person in absolute emotional turmoil, giving away peices of himself physically and figuratively. But the story brings us to the point where we feel he just might change his mind; having already done so much good. The bitter irony being. That his devour to assess whether the possible recipient of his heart, was both the most worthy and had the greatest need of it. Left him exposed to falling for her. If it were not for the poor chances of her survival. As we see him pause to contemplate whether it was likely they could have a future together. He decides that he can't feel responsible for the death of someone else he loves. Like you said, an emotionally faceted film. Will Smith is utterly incredible. It made me wonder which other films of his you have already seen?

Daryl

Thank you very much for recommending it! I really enjoyed this one a lot. It has definitely made me think, long past the initial watch.

I was really worried about Rosario getting her heart broken too! So many complicated ideas in this one for sure. Really made me think, happy I saw it 👍

Jen M

Oh good tip 👍

p.s. I'd be careful in using banana peals for your plants indoors. They're cool for outdoor compost but I personally wouldn't use it indoors.

Great reaction Jen, but thank you Bret for the request! I honestly don't know how this movie slipped by me, because it seems right up my alley. I loved your reaction but while watching I had a different perspective on it though. I had a pretty good idea of what he was doing when he started bring up that Rosario Dawson needed a heart transplant. That with him testing the first two people he talked to, the reveal of the 7 people killed in the crash, and (after all of the above evidence) the Shakespearean reference to a "pound of flesh" I was pretty positive he was gearing up to giving her his heart and was just making sure she was worthy of it. So, while you were rooting for the love story and was worried she would die, I was worried he was going to advance the romance because I was terrified it would break her heart. I mean... I understand the poetry of her being worthy of his heart while he gives her his heart(both figuratively and literally) but still seeing them fall for each other was so painful. This was a great movie but I would have rather they focused on redemption arc versus trying to confuse the audience with the what his actual intentions are. This movie asked a lot of amazing questions in a pretty deep area. Will's character saved 7 people by giving up irreplaceable parts of himself(well... except the house but I understand that they wanted to emphasize that that guy didn't deserve it ) in order the make amends for the 7 people he killed. Is that right? Is that appropriate? Is it enough? I don't know but I would have loved to see them tackle questions like that. I would have loved to see him actually come to terms the consequences of his actions. They briefly touch on whether giving Rosario his metaphoric heart was good enough but it was just that. I think you could have had a really powerful movie, while revealing his intentions, and the story be about that redemption(and being honest with the audience about it). Of course, this is just my opinion. I still thought it was a great movie and amazing reaction! Thanks again to Bret for suggesting it and putting me onto it!!

MattN

Oh nice! Buckle up, probably just as intense the second time!

Jen M

Oy!!! This is one of my all time faves... that I would've only ever watched once due to it's huge emotional wallop. Game for a second time with you :) (...gulp, lol)

I've heard the best part of golfing is being outside! I will have to try sometime when it's not too busy cuz I think I'll take a long time to sink the ball lolll ☺

Jen M

I'm so glad you enjoyed ☺ Such a hard situation see play out and leaves you with lots to think about. The acting was amazing! Woody was great too, such a small part but you really feel what a gentle soul he is. Thank you for this lovely request Bret, I really appreciate it 🙏
