Title for Volume 4. Breach Considerations.

Greetings, dear readers,

First off, a huge thank you for all your feedback and encouraging comments yesterday. You guys are amazing, and it truly means a lot to have such a supportive community to share these stories with.

(Clears throat before things get too emotional…)

Now, I’d love to tap into the group’s collective wisdom once again.

Each of my books averages around 55–56 chapters. I’m already at chapter 50 of Volume 3, but there’s still so much of the Breach I want to explore. Jack is just getting started with brewing and butchering, and there's plenty of room for his beekeeping and bard skills to grow. There are a lot of interesting synergies between his current professions that I want to dive into before adding two new ones to the mix.

This brings me to an important decision: I’m considering wrapping up Volume 3 with a couple of surprises leading up to Wave 20, then continuing the Breach arc in Volume 4.

That means—for at least most of Book 4—Jack probably won’t be picking up two new minor professions! Instead, the focus will be on refining and expanding the skills he already has.

With that in mind, I’ve lined up a few title ideas for Book 4. They tie directly into skills that fall under Jack’s current professions, which feels fitting since this volume will continue the Breach arc while delving deeper into his existing abilities.

So, I’d love your thoughts:

Let me know what you think in the comments—I’d love to hear your take!

Joi Wilson is correct. Character XP is frozen in the Breach. Beasts grant no XP. Professional XP works as normal.

Cássio Ferreira

Thank you for your suggestion! I'll consider it!

Cássio Ferreira

I think he meant character XP isn’t awarded until they exit the breech. So he’ll remain level 20 until they’re done in the breech. In contrast his professional XP (for all his minors) is awarded as its earned. No delay involved.

Joi Wilson

how about "The Honeycomb Crafter" ?

But we see XP accruing in the brewing skills and such. Why just them?

SwR

It's not that, but there's no XP gains inside the Breach. Only at the end will they receive rewards which include XP. Since he needs to be level 30 to learn his next two minors...

Cássio Ferreira

Hi there! Thank you for your comment! I actually didn't know that! Which tells me that many won't either :P

Cássio Ferreira

:P

Candlelight cooking, Rushlight Diner

Chimera

Why not use the term for the Profession for candlemaking? The Chandler Cook

Fred Riley

I like Breaching Brewer, but I made it up. Minors aren't available within Breaches? Did that get established?

SwR

Thank you for that valuable input, Coleman! I really appreciate it!

Cássio Ferreira

The part about making illicit candles made me laugh. Good question! It's coming!

Cássio Ferreira

Oh, wow! I hadn't thought about it that deeply. But true, I Hmmm... I do think that cook might be the better fit according to your logic. I call the major [Cooking], but I call players with the [Cooking] major chefs. I couldn't say [Cheffing]. :P

Cássio Ferreira

That makes sense!

Cássio Ferreira

Oh, I couldn’t pay for a setup this easy. Let him cook my friend. That goes for keeping the breach long as well. There’s no reason to limit the size of an arc based on your book structure. As long as you end on an eventful wave it should be a fitting stoping point. I find that chopping any exciting serial into chunks for retail is quite hard. For all the action and stakes your stories possess I find them best enjoyed as a slice of life in a fantastical setting. Watching characters grow from their experiences and expand their social circles feels like checking in on an old friend.

Coleman

I was thinking ‘camp cook’ when I chose cook over chef. Cooking candlemaker sounded like he was making illicit candles. Also did I miss bonecarving in the book 3 arc??

Joi Wilson

Cook works better than Chef in my opinion, I imagine chef as an advanced form of cook.

Daniel Everest

I choose the "Chef" one, but then I realized I didn't remembered what is the "real" cooking class in the game? I dunno what you really want, if the goal is to stay on the feeling of only Minors maybe the title shouldn't be near the Major job's name or if in the contrary you want to give the image that he's getting closer and closer to the big job it might be interesting to have the name reflecting that instead. Bottom line I think it's on you and what you will to convey right now ?
