Fresh Start - WIP Week 1
Added 2020-02-27 17:37:35 +0000 UTCYesterday, I streamed the 1st production session for the song you voted on and this is the result of that session.
I'm hoping to finish this song by the end of March and I'll be streaming the production session every week. Expect a post and a download here on the following Thursday every week!
As always - this is a work in progress so it will be very rough around the edges; especially in the initial stages. On to the music!
What I Like:
- The two piano parts (variations on the same chord progression) work really well.
- The chord progression expresses the theme you voted on pretty well.
- The arp/lead is a really good idea.
- Percussion in the first half is better executed than the 2nd half (though still needs a lot of work - see below).
What I Don't Like:
- The percussion is really bad (though I do like the patterns) - subconsciously, I don't think I wanted to spend much time on this during the stream because it's really boring to just sample browse on stream. This is probably a carry-over from when I used to stream production stuff because I'd do tasks that were monotonous off stream. Gonna have to get over that since we're streaming the whole process.
- The bass is too simple.
- The drop (if you can even call it that atm) doesn't have impact.
- The arrangement is there, but the pacing isn't - it gets boring during each section, especially the drop.
Next Steps:
- Percussion - the next session will start here. I need to pick some good samples and really have some good extra layers and fills to use to help with the pacing.
- Basic FX and automation - this will help a ton with pacing.
- Better sound design and flourishes - taking the elements that are there and making them sound better.
And that's it! ANimals and up can download the mp3 here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/34390478
Thank you for your support, have a great rest of your week!
