Hitchhiker's Guide to Sixam Public Release 1.0.2
Added 2023-01-18 22:07:49 +0000 UTC
There are several mods that enable you to travel to Sixam at will (and other places), but this one gets you there in a flying saucer! I made this because I love the Alien Abduction sequence, especially the sound effects, plus it's handy to be able to get to Sixam easily.
The device looks like a drawing tablet, and is named 'Hitchhiker's Guide to Sixam'. You can select 'Hitch a Ride...' from the tablet in your inventory, and a saucer will pick you up and take you to Sixam. You will need to be outside in order to get a ride on the saucer.
You can also 'Hitch a Ride Home...' and get home from any lot (or most of them).

You can bring friends along on your trips! Bring some camping gear and have a cookout under the weird sky!
Finally, if you are playing an alien sim, or have a Logic skill of 6 or higher, you can Request Sample Collection and select up to 7 sims in the nearby area to be abducted (they come back on their own). This is great fun on Batuu!

Blink Teleport
If you Sim has these qualifications (Logic 6 or Alien), you can also use the Blink interaction to teleport to a spot on the terrain. Click on the terrain to use (must have the Guide in your inventory).
Order Items
I added the Order menu from the Computer to the Hitchhiker's Guide, so if you're in some remote lot and need something, you can just get it from the Guide.

Comments
Just realized that I haven't tried it since the patch, but I have it installed and it's not causing any problems. I expect that it would work fine, though. Going to Sixam is just a "GoToSpecificLotTravelInteraction" call. I'll double check it over the weekend, but it should be safe to try. Let me know if you have any trouble!

2025-09-05 03:52:42 +0000 UTCoh, that's right! I'm going to work that in somewhere, lol. I've had a long term Sims modding project that's in the sci-fi/cyberpunk genre (it's taking awhile), and I was going to include a version of this in it. I haven't drawn on many other tropes from that book aside from this mod -- I can think of a few now that you have me pondering it. A teleporter that sends you somewhere random, depressed robots, doors with personalities...book of vogon poetry...hmm.

2025-01-31 02:44:58 +0000 UTCEver consider changing the name or model of the inventory item to The Electronic Thumb or Electronic Sub-Etha Sens-O-Matic (since that's what actually got hitchhikers aboard passing starships? From the Fandom page: "The thumb was originally described as a short squat black rod, smooth and matte with a couple of flat switches and dials at one end."

2025-01-31 02:38:56 +0000 UTCHello! Players (aliens or not) can use the blink interaction to go long distances on the currently loaded map (though the location they are teleporting to must be routable, eg, reachable by walking, etc). Aliens don't use the device autonomously, though that's an interesting idea (have to think about how to do that without breaking other things in the game...)! I think I'd have to come up with a fully fleshed out 'teleport style' (like the vampire ones, etc) and attach that to the alien buff to get them to blink autonomously. I tried for some time to find a way to arrive at a lot by spaceship, in other words, you beam up in one lot, go to another, then beam down after you arrive. I can get everything but 'beaming down when you arrive' to work. It seems like there just isn't a way for a sim to arrive at a lot after loading in any way but walking. Even looked into bicycle and broom travel, and with both of those, when you get to a new lot, you are on foot again. I also did have beaming up into saucer, then beaming down in a different place on the same map as another form of teleport working, but it took so long for the ship to show up and pick you up, I didn't think most would like it, lol. I'll take the suggestion into consideration, though. If I can figure out how to do it, I'll add something like that. :)
