The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Season 8. Garrett and Robbie discuss what they would have liked to have seen in a hypothetical season 8 of Voyager.

DS9 addresses what happens to the remaining Maquis during the Dominion War... 😢

2024-11-13 21:19:14 +0000 UTCJust finished the Voyager mission—1 year after you guys did. There will be others in future years reaching the end and being saddened by the abrupt, although understandable, end to the series. I greatly appreciate and love the ideas, especially the outline that RDM proposed. If not green-lighted for a Series, maybe it can be a graphic novel series. Only part I wasn’t excited about was going back to fix the timeline—then Tuvok , Chakotay and Seven would be back in the same situation as before. But—going back to get Neelix—that makes great sense. Robbie, the idea of Tuvix was brilliant. Thanks for the journey, guys❤️. Looking forward to the next one with DS9. I know it’ll be wonderful with you two at the helm.

2024-08-06 05:14:12 +0000 UTCNo way are the Marquis in prison. They would have been pardoned in return for their service during war. They would have been much needed.

2024-06-13 17:30:16 +0000 UTCHere's my thought on Tom, his dad and B'Elanna in season 8... Tom and his dad reunite and and they have the moment we all expect where they break down and forgive each other and all that. B'Elanna doesn't leave her job to be a full time mom. She becomes chief engineer on a starship and it's TOM that decides to put his career on hold to stay home. Admiral Paris can't handle it. "How can you do this? You just redeemed yourself! Your career is all laid out ahead of you! How can you just throw it away like this?" "Because this is what a GOOD FATHER does for HIS CHILD." And at that point they realize that they never worked through the issues, just paved them over and they're all back. Then they spend the season actually working it out.

2024-04-16 03:45:56 +0000 UTCJaneway: "WE HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE ISLAND" Chakotay: "The what?" Janeway: "Delta Quadrant... we have to go back to the Delta Quadrant."

2024-04-16 03:40:57 +0000 UTCI am imaging a ten episode Season 8 streaming on Paramount+ starting with this grand celebration described by Garrett and Robbie with Janeway watching Chakotay and Seven with a look of regret, what will they do with Maquis crew members, and how the Doctor integrates intonsociety. I can totally envision the whole season as they're describing it. Edited to add: My only question is how would Neelix get back to help save Tuvok.
Dee McGee
2024-04-01 00:23:19 +0000 UTCno matter the story they would have told in a potential season 8... I would want a time gap between the end of season 7 and the beginning of season 8 of about a year or at least several months... So when the season begins we get all the celebration stuff and happy reunions at first with some problems and issues arising later in the form of flashbacks, explaining why we are in the situation, we are in at the beginning of the season. And these flashbacks also explain why Voyager needs to embark on its next mission... after it got a complete overhaul and refit at Utopia Planetia - possibly to the extent that justifies it to be the USS Voyager NCC-74656 A now.

2024-03-29 17:52:28 +0000 UTCWhat's missing for me is how to get Tuvok and Neelix back together, and I think the way to do this is a Kes redemption story. Because of her abilities and the various people she's met in her travels, she's gained the ability to slow her aging. She's still in the Delta quadrant and senses Neelix's desperation to get to Tuvok to save him, so she uses all of the new technology she has acquired to bring them together. Maybe the technology she uses is the long distance transporter that the crew tried to steal from that planet early on.

2024-02-17 17:09:56 +0000 UTCFun ideas. 1) Temporal Prime directive plot: I think the folks from the 29th century stop Janeway/Seven from fixing. Because the alternate was worse. Without the damage to the Borg in Engame, the Alpha Quadrant becomes assimilated. 2) I agree Seven/Chakotay breakup, but it’s because she decides to go to the Star Fleet equivalent of Officer Training School and he gets a new ship. 3) I think the Prime Directive ‘trials’ are a two part episode and Janeway is ultimately pardoned for crimes committed and made an Admiral. 4) Doctor and the Holographic revolution will be a thing. I think he has to fight to keep his mobile emitter. 5) LOVE the Tuvix twist and finding someway to get Neelix to the Alpha quadrant. 6) They had 11 mins/day phone calls to Delta Quadrant, I see a series of vignettes as they try to get formal relations with various species codified via Ambassador Neelix 7) I think Seven and B’Elanna make a single transwarp conduit to the Delta quadrant. 8) I love the Harry-theRockStar plot

2024-01-27 20:47:50 +0000 UTCI would love to see the long awaited promotion of Ensign Kim! We seriously need some kind of Voyager reboot. Everyone thinks that TNG is the most popular Star Trek series, but I disagree. If you look at Netflix’s top 10 most streamed episodes of Star Trek, Voyager episodes occupy six out of the 10 spots. And of course, number one spot goes to Voyager Endgame part one and two.

2023-12-20 03:31:29 +0000 UTCI chuckled at the notion of Tom and Janeway’s lizard babies returning as super smart, deadly beings because they’ve basically described the Gorn.

2023-12-14 13:31:13 +0000 UTCThese are great ideas too!
Jen V
2023-11-07 03:23:45 +0000 UTCI'd also like to hear Icheb's continuing story for Season 8.
Jen V
2023-11-07 03:21:01 +0000 UTCLove these ideas. I feel like there could be some interesting drama with Janeway. She sees her crew reconnecting with their families, but she comes home and is alone. She’s lost Mark, she’s lost her dog, and her Voyager family have gone their separate ways. She’s lost her purpose (getting the crew home). It would take some new crisis to bring her out of it and give her new drive and purpose.

2023-10-31 17:04:12 +0000 UTCIt's so interesting to hear what you guys wanted for a season 8, I was listening along and I wrote a long message with details about the current history for what happened to those who appear in Picard and Prodigy but then I realised that it really doesn't matter coz this is your show lol Great episode as always :)

2023-10-10 04:45:20 +0000 UTCWhat a great show you guys have! I love the blueprint sketch for season eight. It’s interesting to hear the ideas for how the homecoming for voyager would take place. So glad I found out about your show!! DF is awesome!!

2023-09-30 00:19:44 +0000 UTCI always thought that Tom and B'elanna would be in charge of designing and creating all of the new and cutting edge starships.

2023-09-04 13:14:59 +0000 UTCChakotay's father was killed by the Cardassians, which is why he resigned his Starfleet commission, got his tattoo and joined The Maquis. I agree, the main things I'd like to see in season 8 after the reunions; Janeway on trial for breaking the prime directive like it was a 2-finger kit-kat and taking The Maquis into her crew. This could be a great way to explain why Janeway couldn't give in to her feelings for Chakotay. She knew she'd have to stand trial and she knew her evidence to any tribunal on the Maquis had to be 100% impartial. She couldn't have anyone claim that her relationship with Chakotay coloured her decisions. She's exonerated of course though. Chakotay and some of The Maquis on trial for some of their acts against The Federation, a show trial if you will, but they're pardoned eventually. Section 31 trying to kidnap Seven to dissect her and blackmailing her into joining them. Janeway dealing with some sort of PTSD with Chakotay's help and friendship, what if.... what if Captain Braxton somehow let his past self know what a thorn in his side Janeway would be and he's trying to kills her, so she and Chakotay are on his trail? Seven comes to realise that Earth is huge and beautiful and that she and Chakotay happened because they were on a small ship, Chakotay realises the same thing and after several weeks apart from Janeway, he realises that it's Janeway he still loves. They're not Captain and First Office now, right? Tom leaves Starfleet and either designs Star Ships or he becomes a holo-novelist, writing Captain Proton holoprograms with Harry. Harry stays in Starfleet and gets several promotions Torres becomes head of Starfleet Engineering due to her brilliance. The Doc fights for hologram rights and frees them all, playing a big part in adventures going to planets to fight for them.

2023-09-03 09:27:03 +0000 UTCI have loved your podcast and I’m so sad Voyager journey has come to an end. Do you guys have any behind the scenes videos, pictures you could share with us? We all have loved those sets and any insight would be greatly appreciated bonus.

2023-09-03 08:30:38 +0000 UTCYep! I felt like I was on a J/C rollercoaster all the time! The agony and the ecstasy - such a tease!

2023-09-03 08:26:42 +0000 UTCThis was fun! I propose: 1) Any and all Universe/Alternate Universe/Alternate Timeline have JC ending up together. 2) Kazon discover the Delta Quadrant equivalent of Vidal Sassoon. 3) It was all in Joe Carey's mind? (Connection - St. Elsewhere via Ed Begley Jr.) 4) It was the Dominion all along. I would love an animated Captain Proton series! My thanks & gratitude to the entire Delta Flyers team!
Denise Gilbertson
2023-09-02 20:05:35 +0000 UTCI'd like a timeline where Voyager didn't get home early, but goes on thru the Delta Quadrant for 20-30 years more. And in this part of the quadrant everybody isn't trying to kill them, and the crew settle into a comfortable life making Voyager their home. The ship becomes cozy and homelike. JC get married(of course) and Harry gets promoted. This alternative timeline can be contrasted with various struggles the crew faces after their return in the original ending. And the fun part is the original cast can all come as they are, in their true age.
Daniel Wilson
2023-09-02 19:31:41 +0000 UTCReminding RDM that altering the timeline again would strand them back in the Delta Quadrant isn't a counterpoint that defeats the idea, it's the complication that ultimately leads Janeway not to go through with it. It's way different than the episode where Voyager was stuck in the ice planet, since in this case they'd be choose the better present instead of the worse past rather than the other way around in that episode.
Alan Duhamel
2023-09-01 02:07:05 +0000 UTCThe timeline fixes should be left to a separate series dealing with such things. But I loled at the tuvix idea. ha. go for it.
Samantha
2023-08-30 15:01:33 +0000 UTCBringing the Marquis back as a major plot point beyond a hypothetical season 8 would be a pretty bad idea IMO. For one thing, that was DS9's narrative, and Voyager used the crew's connection to them very sparingly for good reason. The crew had integrated into an entirely StarFleet organization, especially after the episode where Tuvok does his thing with the last stragglers. It'd make no sense for the Marquis to be a significant factor, since the entire reason they existed (the Cardassian expansion onto colony worlds) was completely over and done with long before Voyager returned.
Alan Duhamel
2023-08-30 14:15:12 +0000 UTCThey put him in the box because he was too dangerous to let out. HoloMoriarty was specifically programmed to be able to defeat Data, (Thanks Geordy) so letting him do his own thing in a box is vastly preferable to having him running around attempting an assassination of an android.
Alan Duhamel
2023-08-30 14:08:02 +0000 UTCor B'Elanna tries to bring chakotay into her thing and while he is very tempted because these are also his peeps, he resists and keeps trying to talk her out of it. maybe she even lets him think he succeeds. but seven breaking up with him changes his mind, because he basically has nothing left. so he turns at the end of season 8. does something dark that's part of a cliffhanger. he maybe steps in and does a thing B'elanna was going to do, and she's relieved at that point to have a way out but also kinda happy someone's doing it. she'll keep her lip zipped and play ignorant. and then season 9 includes janeway getting him back.
Samantha
2023-08-30 10:36:39 +0000 UTCYeah but that's years later, there's still untold stories in between.
Don Eitner
2023-08-30 06:19:02 +0000 UTCTo me I think after the celebrations there would be some serious debriefing meetings over what the crew did in the Delta Quadrant and determining what sort of things they learned. I could see questions on what sort of rules were broken as far as the Prime Directive in societies and temporal. Questions on technology and how it should be used and avoid new technologies from the Delta Quadrant being used in the wrong way such as armor, Borg tech, medical technology being used for the wrong purposes. Using the Doctors mobile emitter to try and reproduce it and get Professor Mortiarty out of the Box Picard, Barclay, and Data left him in.
Christopher Collins
2023-08-29 21:41:41 +0000 UTCSorry, boys, but have you not watched ST:Picard? Seven becomes a mercenary, she mercifully saves Icheb from the Romulans on the Artifact. Maybe these ideas would have worked before that, but now we would be filling in the blanks in between.
Debra Crockett
2023-08-29 20:48:18 +0000 UTCSome very good ideas except for the idiotic notion that the timeline needs to be fixed. Even after Garrett reminded RDM that if CPT Janeway stops ADM Janeway then they would still be in the Delta Quadrant trying to get home, he remains stuck on stupid. I think a better story arc for Janeway is that she joins Starfleet HQ and finds out that the threat from the little bug aliens in ST TNG S1E25 has come back and has to finally figure out how to defeat them.
ST Fan CB
2023-08-29 20:22:08 +0000 UTCRobbie and Garrett, this would have been a fantastic season with your ideas!

2023-08-29 19:06:03 +0000 UTCMark definitely got married to "someone he works with" after holding out (for Voyager's return) "longer than most." Can't remember which episode -- Hunters, maybe? when they get letters from home and Janeway gets her "Dear Jane" letter from him. Then Chakotay tells her she can't use her relationship with Mark as a crutch to avoid getting involved with any else anymore ... biggest freakin' tease in Voyager JC history after "Resolutions." Where're my JC Shippers at? Sigh. SIGH.
Tara
2023-08-29 16:10:41 +0000 UTCI think something that would be interesting for me in a Season 8 is Harry coming back to his family and girlfriend only to realize how much he's changed since leaving 7 years ago. Does he even feel connected to Libby after everything? He's not the bright-eyed, naive Ensign he used to be. This could even tie into him feeling like a "fake" because of being a copy. It would also be interesting to have a less "traditional" family model, with B'Elanna off working (or trying to help former Maquis and being hot-headed/reckless), while Tom has become the responsible one, taking care of their daughter.
Kiara H.
2023-08-29 08:29:07 +0000 UTCI think y’all have some really really good plot points planned out here.
Sarah Zeisler
2023-08-28 23:49:33 +0000 UTCI think Mark got married while Janeway was away but his spouse died a horrible death and now he’s available again and is so happy she’s back. BUT, Seven goes off to be the queen so Janeway and Chakotay get together and live happily ever after. Take THAT, Mark!
Holly Smith
2023-08-28 23:48:37 +0000 UTCAn age-appropriate spin-off could do all these plot ideas justice. No need to animate. A "where are they now" series could easily fill in all the blanks in the same way Picard (kind of) did.
Amandapants
2023-08-28 22:41:30 +0000 UTCI'd lose my mind if we got a season 8 of VOY. That said, Robbie & Garrett really need to get with me about my Janeway series pilot & writer's Bible. 😉

2023-08-28 20:05:25 +0000 UTCThis was fun! So great to hear how you think the story would go on! I agree with the above - would be so great to hear your thoughts on the post Endgame books. I'm reading them at the moment and really enjoying so far :D
Amy Tudor
2023-08-28 19:23:10 +0000 UTCNix on the animated - I want to see these actors again! Didn't like the first two seasons of Picard but the 3rd was spectacular and would love to see a similar show with Voyager.

2023-08-28 19:10:25 +0000 UTCThe Voyager Homecoming novel was smart to axe the Chakotay/Seven relationship at the very beginning of the book.
Eric Bennett
2023-08-28 18:59:21 +0000 UTCYou guys definitely need to read the books about voyager's return, Star Trek Voyager has a whole series of books that all tie into a series called Star Trek Destiny where all the Star Trek series up until that point (TNG, voyager, DS9, and some from Enterprise) are together. Discusses the origin of the Borg, deals with Voyager coming home (and a whole 7 of 9/borg queen plot line), and decimates the alpha quadrant. Completely upends the balance of power for Starfleet, the other alpha quadrant species, and the Borg. There's also a line continuing after for Star Trek voyager where they send a whole fleet into the delta quadrant and the Q come back. They also have to deal with their lasting impact on the delta quadrant
Rob Salvaggio
2023-08-28 16:32:15 +0000 UTCYou still can do an 8th season of Voyager, If future Janeway didn't create an alternate timeline by bringing you home, Voyager would still be lost in the Delta Quadrant right now, Would be nice to see for Voyager's 30th Anniversary, what would the ship and crew by like if they still was in the Delta Quadrant, would the ship be a little battered and the crew older, would Janeway take a back seat as Captain, would there be more Children born on the ship.
MARTIN REVITT
2023-08-28 15:24:06 +0000 UTCI love the novels. The whole set of relaunch novels from Homecoming to To Lose the Earth is wonderful.

2023-08-28 14:02:33 +0000 UTCRobbie you are a creative genius! And I know Sabrilu will allow a separation as long as it’s limited to like two episodes lol

2023-08-28 13:26:53 +0000 UTCIf you haven't read all of the Voyager books, post return home, they are great reads. So many continuing and brand new storylines, new worlds and species, new adventures.
Matt
2023-08-28 12:34:17 +0000 UTCThe show already established the beginnings of the MK I's rising up against their "masters" - since they got hold of "Photons be Free".
Andrew Murray
2023-08-28 09:22:19 +0000 UTCStarfleet is so impressed by the Delta Flyer shuttle, they order Lt. Harry to head the department and team to mass produce the "next gen" shuttles for all ships. (no pun intended).
Andrew Murray
2023-08-28 09:11:15 +0000 UTCI say season 8, Voyager remains stuck in the Delta quadrant. Why not? They find a place to settle, and live out their lives. But eventually Barkely has devised a transwarp, or slipstream drive or something that allows Starfleet to get more ships into the Delta Quadrant, to form a fleet presence there.
Andrew Murray
2023-08-28 08:59:00 +0000 UTCSeven ends up as Captain of Stargazer-A or Enterprise-G depending on your point of view, so at least two people were on her side including Picard and Janeway.
Andrew Murray
2023-08-28 08:54:25 +0000 UTCMy S8 scenarios: Voyager gets home.....Tom Paris meets is long-lost "twin" brother Nic Locarno. Scenario 2: Season 7 closure: Voyager in the Delta Quadrant finds the Borg transwarp conduit (as per "Endgame") but the Borg manage to cause Voyager to exit the conduit in....the Gamma Quadrant, 50,000 light years from the Bajoran Wormhole (despite this, Admiral Janeway's plan works and destroys the conduit/hub). They eventually realise it is the Gamma Quadrant (after a run-in with some Jem Had'ar) but then have a welcome rendevous with the Definant with Worf, Jadzia Dax, Nog and Odo on board......
Andrew Murray
2023-08-28 08:34:41 +0000 UTCSome definitely interesting ideas there but I feel in some places it went where fanfic goes in making plot twists for the sake of plot twists, while ignoring established character traits. Seven would never forcibly remove someone else's individuality (as seen in PIC) and would likely kill herself before becoming Queen. Torres had repeatedly talked about how she didn't want the fact that she was a mother to interrupt her life or work. And sorry, Janeway struggled for years with her decision to destroy the Caretaker's array, I just don't see her jeopardizing their entire return home because.....story? 😃 But in my opinion there were some really cool tidbits about Paris and the Maquis in there!
Craig Drebit
2023-08-28 06:46:32 +0000 UTCPaused at 12:55 to say the writers were asked at conventions sometime after series 7 if the borg were still alive and the writers confirmed inspite of the virus the borg were still alive. This was confirmed throughout the whole of star trek picard (and also pretty much confirmed weirdly there can be more than 1 queen at any 1 time).

2023-08-28 06:27:08 +0000 UTCalso curious if the boys have read or are interested in reading the book that came out after the show ended. I know it's not canon, but i'm also thinking about reading it. i know nothing about the book but i'm curious what other fans think about it.
Kathrine Rieger
2023-08-28 06:03:53 +0000 UTCIt definitely would have to be a full season arc but maybe a shorter season so it doesn't feel like it's too stretched and slow to fill 20 something eps. I think one cool option now in the streaming era would be a series of "short treks" to cover each topic. this way the episode would be the length of each story. i'm good with it being animated since it's been so long
Kathrine Rieger
2023-08-28 05:40:23 +0000 UTCGreat episode! Two things: 1. ‘Harry gets thousands of women upon his return to Earth.’ I almost laughed my head off :-) 2. Whatever happened to poor Crewman James Morrow??
James Morrow
2023-08-28 05:22:36 +0000 UTCThis might be the best episode EVER! It’s like you guys are in the writers room. I so wish we could pick this up with an animated series.
