Hey guys! Wanted to share an update on *one* of the projects we did with Safiya, the one for our channel (we're keeping the one we did for her channel hush hush for now). So if y'all saw our last post about this, we brought a bunch of resin and makeup to her studio so we could test mixing makeup in resin to see how it would color it, and if any weird reactions happened. And wow - honestly most things exceeded our expectations, yet one of the items we were most confident about was probably the most disappointing

Probably the MOST surprising was the lipstick, which we melted into the resin with a heat gun. We thought it would cool immediately upon falling into the resin and not mix evenly, but it actually ended up with this really cool texture that would be hard to replicate with our normal resin colorants, where it was simultaneously spotty and evenly distributed. It was like dip n dots haha. And the most disappointing was eyeshadow, which we thought was a sure thing because it’s so close to the mica powder we use all the time! But the color was super weak and it didn’t really distribute evenly.

There were lots of fun and interesting interactions, and then we let all the samples solidify and put them into a shadow box with handwritten labels, sorta like a “specimen display” of sorts. Anyways, it was super fun to combine our makeup science and resin science (adjacent) skills into these experiments and we can’t wait to release the video later this month! -Katelyn
