I flew north for a few days this week and broke a travel rule i have ("Don't use Northern airports in winter"). I have regrets.
My flight home last night was canceled because the plane needed a new windshield wiper, and apparently, the airport didn't have the right ones here. And in the rain, they are not allowed to take off without it.
(See? Not a problem that would have happened in the summer.)
On the up side, this did mean that I field tested recent updates to my travel survival strategy, and Im happy to report they were totally worth the effort
- fancy headphones
- overthinking the layout of my carryon bag and what is in which pockets (yes, I'm definitely doing a post on this later for the tiktoks)
- bringing my modified dragoncon-style badge holder (that i made) so that my id and credit card are easily accessible without opening my carry-on bags.
- correctly chosen footwear (in this case, a pair of short boots that slip on and off easily but are also comfy)
- carry-on bag > checked bag (the unexpected hotel stay last night would have sucked a lot more if i couldn't get my luggage - like some other passengers on this flight)
The reason this is a thing right now is that last year, I decided to try and make air travel a little more accessible to myself. I dont mind the planes part of flying, but I have trouble with literally everything else. But I live in florida, and not being willing / able to fly really limits my options or at least makes it more expensive. (Because i had to build recovery days into every trip, meaning i couldn't really do trips under 5 days.) So i decided to fix it.
So far, so good. This flight cancelation sucked but it was a great field test.
P. S. There is no rule that says you can't wear a tiara and watch cartoons in the hotel room. If you have your tiara with you.
