Also, personal pet peeve, but it irks me when adaptations try to be clever by giving Scrooge Charles Dickens' backstory. It changes the character in ways that work against the message of the story. They did that in the Kelsey Grammer musical adaptation as well.

People who say it is good or a good adaptation have not read the story or don't remember it. Micheal Caine's earnest committed performance is lost amidst snarky, sarcastic Muppets constantly undercutting any gravity or humanity in the tale. It's an agonizing experience to watch.
