GAM Bonus 063: Maximum Overdrive

We asked for bad horror movies this month, and while I'm not 100% sure this qualifies as "horror", it's so overqualified for "bad" that we took it.

Comments

Emilio Esteves mentions something about the heavy trucks would fall through the floor into the cellar

Rachel Manente

I for one feels slightly attacked, when hearing AC/DC my favourite band since 1972, be referred to as "dad rock". / S I loved this move when it came out, bought the soundtrack on vinyl and the movie felt like a long music video with my favourite band.

If a nuke carrying submarine would've joined this movie could've been 10 minutes long. I've never seen it through but I do remember seeing some movie with a kid writing Morse code from a car and I assume there aren't many of those.

David S.

It would be U-joint control or tie rod control

Slam Nasty

I'm glad I wasn't the only person to notice the main villain of Far Cry 6 in this silly movie...

Lisorael

I'm kinda surprised nobody answered the question of what overdrive is. Best I can understand, it's using a lower gear to sustain a high cruising speed, after having reached that speed, being more fuel efficient and better for long distances at sustained speeds, like on a interstate highway.

Alextomcool

Aw. I was wanting to read that one. Or Danse Macabre.

Alextomcool

Honestly, I can't stop laughing at Noah laughing at himself while saying "Which means...that the machine-gun-cart-military-vehicle has a horn...in case you need anyone to get out of your way!"

Rachael Adamczyk

Eli + Cinemasins reference = happy me

Nashjillian

In fairness, his book on writing is hot garbage.

Denise Huston

So wait, I'm used to bad sportsing in Christian movies, but Stephen King is like 30% baseball nostalgia, how the fuck did he manage that? (I know, the answer is cocaine.)

Denise Huston

Stephen King directed this himself and by all accounts was drugged out of his mind the whole time

Dustin Nelson

A more disturbing possibility: perhaps the plane had seen Birth of a Nation.

Uriah Jackson

Game room guy is Giancarlo Esposito. You read that right. Gus Fring. They had one of the best actors of our time and he was limited to a racist stereotype that was already out of date in ‘87.

Steve Dicus

So being just outside of Wilmington now, I want to come I on some things: The name's gonna either be Bubba or Cooter. Driving any type of bike with tractor trailers being near you is sphincter tightening scary. Yes the draw bridges go that high. We have a second one, now. If I recall, this was the only place to cross the Cape Fear River in the area back then. There may have been others, but I was young and grew up a couple hours north. We DEFINITELY had cigarette machines in the game room. Pretty sure our shit drains still flow into the river, only now they've added PFAS and other forever chemical contaminates!  Thanks, Dupont! I'm glad I get to wonder if your the reason my new daughter was born underweight and had to be snatched out a bit early. I don't care how many scapegoat companies you started to avoid accountability.

Pterrorsaurus hex

Was going from your wedding ceremony directly to a cross country road trip honeymoon something people used to do? Like at most weddings I’ve ever been to the couple get drunk and go to bed, then actually leave for there honeymoon a few days later

General Contact Unit Problem Child

Noah revisits his alien voice!

Taru Tikkanen

So i'm watching the movie to prepare for the episode. Holy crap you guys should have fun with this. It should really be a main episode with the bible salesman telling the boy to pull him but whatever. Why don't the trucks just crash into the building they are in? They've crashed into other buildings already, do they respect the truck stop? I better finish it now. Bye <3

My first thought when they started talking about it was wrist pin control. A wrist pin is the part that connects the piston to the connecting rod in most internal combustion engines so not the car equivalent of a wrist per se but the name fits

Ivy McG

I believe the car equivalent of wrist would be front wheel bearing. It allows the front wheels to twist left or right to steer. And or suspension, which allows all 4 wheels to go up or down independently and allowing them to not vibrate the whole car if there is slight depression or bump in the road.

Jess Donovan

I'm glad Yeardley Smith made it big in voice acting because she looks kind of weird in person.

General Contact Unit Problem Child

My husband LOOOOVES this movie. Watching this tonight!!

Laura Lusby

The military truck thing is real. It was an utility vehicle for delivering supplies and ammunition. They were being phased out in the 1980s.

Mister CPU

Hey this movie rocks

Dustin Nelson

I rented this multiple times when I was a kid. Loved it! Can't wait to listen.

A.J.

It scared the shit out of me when I was ten, but then I realized how incredibly stupid it was.

Mark H

Oh, hell yes! Finally you guys review a movie I've seen multiple times, and absolutely loved both as a kid, and occasionally as a drunk/stoned adult. And it absolutely deserves the GAMcast treatment.

Kurt Montandon

This was my favorite movie as kid. I remember watching it when I was like 6 or 7. I’m so excited to listen to this movie take!

Joey Roberson-Kitzman
