GAM Bonus 045: Krull
Added 2020-03-26 21:15:09 +0000 UTCIt's the story of... you know what, summary fails me.

I've seen this movie many times as a child on tv, but besides that spinny blade I don't remember anything from it. Like nothing, it's like the man in black wiped my memory with the flashy thing.

2024-03-08 21:50:59 +0000 UTCKrull really is most early D&D games, filler and redundant quests especially. The four high school players are the Prince, the magician, the chief bandit, and the Cyclops. The DMs sister was supposed to play as the princess but her friend was going to the mall so she bailed. The player of the Cyclops had a curfew, so he had to leave early, but he called his mom to be picked up and she said it would be a half hour before she'd get there, so the Cyclops could come back for a bit.

2022-01-05 16:00:29 +0000 UTCWhat's fun is other franchises have adopted the glaive as fidget spinner concept.

2020-04-13 22:10:56 +0000 UTCTo be fair this movie is basically a D&D plot. The cyclops is clearly the DM's character he has to keep bringing in because the players keep fucking up.

2020-04-13 22:10:06 +0000 UTCooh...if we are going to do bad fantasy movies...do ZARDOZ, its got Shaun Connery in a banana hammock/bullet belt the entire movie. Its glorious. Also "She" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090009/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 a movie I was sure was a fever dream for years...think, Krull mixed with thunderdome, but with one tenth of the budget...and post apocalyptic nazis.
potato potato also another potato
2020-04-11 22:20:11 +0000 UTChuh? this isn't the blockbuster John Woo movie Face/Off, or it's less exciting cousin Paycheck. What even is this? Not the 1996 action classic Broken Arrow either!

2020-03-31 14:49:15 +0000 UTCGot reminiscent after listening to this review and re-watched the movie. Thirty-plus years later, and I still love it.

2020-03-28 19:59:40 +0000 UTCHas anyone not seen enough about them to know Hagrid? The movies lost me starting with 3, though. The page counts for the first three books are 309, 341, and 435, for the original US versions, in order. The movie lengths are 2h 32m, 2h 41m, and 2h 22m, in order. That kind of says it all, really. The joker whom they got to direct and edit the third movie gutted book 3. Book 3 was the beginning of the dive into the politics of the wizarding world, and he cut almost all of that out. I watched the fourth movie, then just stopped. I only got through book 5, in print. The end of book 5 was just so freaking cheap. Harry's father figure had to die, in order to push his character development, so that's what was rammed into the story. It was just random and arbitrary. Forced. It felt like a bad GM railroading his players into situations. I had a game of Shadowrun in which my character was supposed to be kidnapped to further the plot. My character was a shaman who happened to have 3 powerful spirits at her command, at the time that the antagonistic team of runners showed up to abduct her. She was also an orc with a VERY high body attribute, so she shrugged off the tranq rounds they hit her with, after I spent a point or two of Edge. Her spirits materialized inside of the antagonist's van and caused havoc while my shaman ran like hell and flew to the rooftops with her magic. Having defeated/evaded her wouldbe abductors, she then ran into the SECOND van full of a second team of 4 or 5 runners, when she came back down from the rooftops, who had for some reason been sent as backup for the first team of four or five, to abduct this single, relatively low-power shaman. I just quit, I can't deal with that level of bullshit. That's why I quit the Harry Potter books, too.

2020-03-28 19:38:38 +0000 UTCAs a British kid growing up in the 80s, I have watched this film far far to many times - it was pretty much on repeat alongside Star Wars and Clash of the Titans every Christmas and Bank Holiday. Plus most of the secondary cast are (or were) household names here - a lot of soap, Carry On and Frankie Howard film alumni - and Ynyr is Toby Jones farther! Also you guys have to do the Bakhsi Lord of the Rings the next time you have a fantasy episode - not only is it awesome (personally I prefer it to the Jackson Films) - John Hurt as Aragon is fantastic! - but it has an even stronger Star Wars connection than Liam "Qui-Gon Jinn" Neeson in this does, as Anthony "C3PO" Daniels plays Legolas!

2020-03-27 22:12:55 +0000 UTCYup, also Mark Fowler in EastEnders - which is ironic considering all the AIDS jokes in this episode.

2020-03-27 20:27:58 +0000 UTCThat's right, Hagrid's the Mexican Complainy Robber. And the brave boy who is first to join him is Tucker from Grange Hill. Won't mean a lot to Americans but he's kind of our AJ Slater.

2020-03-27 19:09:49 +0000 UTCI was a kid when I first saw this. I begged my parents to see it and I was so disappointed, but not enough to stop me from immediately trying to make my own Krull weapon out of cardboard

2020-03-27 15:01:02 +0000 UTCEli's read all the Harry Potters, but has he seen the films? The red shirted bandid with the moustach is Robbi Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the Potter films.

2020-03-27 14:53:07 +0000 UTCI preferred the Canadian version Rock & Rule. Made so much more sense.

2020-03-27 13:20:23 +0000 UTCOkay it's been fifteen or twenty years since I've seen either of them but based on my memories, Krull is way more fun than Kull the Conqueror, so good call Eli! (Now I'm tempted to watch them both so I might retract that later)

2020-03-27 07:02:44 +0000 UTCSQUEE! The soundtrack has sections that totally rip off Star Trek II.

2020-03-26 22:38:17 +0000 UTCKrull is the only one of the movie options I knew NOTHING about (except the weird throwing star thing that they called a "glaive" which is the word for a type of POLEARM).

2020-03-26 21:35:37 +0000 UTCI loved this film as a kid, I'm so glad to see it here for a roasting! It was not good to see it again as an adult, bloody terrible.
