Sadly it does overshadow it. Now when I look back at others recommending the show it's all about root and shaw which is sad since they are a crucial but still a small part of what makes this show great.

We learn at the end that they've been at this for over 6000 attempts, and the banter at the end suggests that in earlier simulations she killed Greer a lot faster. I think what shouldn't be written off is the Root and Shaw moments. Yes they technically didn't happen but we are seeing that shaw seeks comfort in her, and it's implied that she does this every time and always shoots herself before hurting Root. Being a queer woman I've always loved Shaw and Root, they've had amazing chemistry since their first episode together, and this episode makes me cry seeing that Shaw views Root as a safe haven in her mind, and in a way it is the one reason she's resisting, Killing Reese barely phased her.

2022-01-03 05:46:16 +0000 UTCI love this episode. How strangely “off” everything felt. And even if it was a simulation & didn’t happen it gives us a great insight into Sameens mind. That she’s willing to kill herself over 6000 times rather than hurt Root or put The Machine in danger. I love the Shoot relationship because it’s developed so slowly over the seasons that it does just seem so natural. Of course these 2 crazy people would end up with feelings for each other. And it doesn’t overshadow any of the storytelling like the lovestorys in other shows do.

2021-12-21 10:34:22 +0000 UTC46,741- Okay... so I have to admit that this is the one episode within the entire show that I really don't like at all. For multiple reasons. I hate that this entire episode takes place within Shaw's mind as just an entire simulation running over and over, and that we don't get to see our other characters for real. I really missed them once we discover what's really going on. And when I first watched this episode, and didn't yet understand that this was all a simulation, I really felt so weirded out by this episode. It was so out of character for everyone, in such a way that I just really didn't like. Also... I am just really not a fan at all of Sameen's and Root's storyline throughout the rest of this season. And I don't care much for seeing them in any kind of relationship at all. I just think that this show would have been better without any kind of romantic relationship between any two members of the team. I never shipped Root and Shaw together. Not even when they started hinting at them becoming a thing. They have some funny banter back and forth since Root first began to become a larger character in the show, but that's as far as I could ever go with them. This is the only episode that I skip over whenever I rewatch this show in its entirety. Because I absolutely love Person of Interest otherwise. As you know. :) Thank you, my friend.
